I'm so fucked.

Russia why did you lose to allies and then joined them as supervised government against me?

edit: Also Germany decided to collapse in 1943, and I was fighting against USN, UK navy, French navy, and Italian navy before my large carriers got finished.

BTW did someone tried DLC? How is it? From videos and Twitch multiplayer it looked like they screwed up.

How can you tell that compared to normal HoI4?
I heard screaming: "my team mates are playing, or having claims on 5 countries I would otherwise use to delay bad effect of MEFO bills until I'd conquer enough resources to be able to start paying MEFO". So I saw streamer who had real world Germany experience when he was fighting together with his team mates against slightly boosted US and Russia AI.

I also saw streamer that tried to fight as Austria, then got declared on him by Switzerland and that was his end.

- This would appear and be logged if you had acquired the DLC through... other means.
- I bought it in Steam.
I saw this gem on official forums.

it's the opposite.

before selling new stuff, the old stuff should work. armored cars are paid dlc, but have tradeoffs that makes them de facto a false choice. superheavies are not, but have been effectively destroyed. air designer has resulted in stale designs. railway guns, which are paid dlc, have an auto-movement feature that is more or less unusable. speaking of which, nothing in the current patch notes so much as mentions correcting anything in the game's controls of descriptions...which is either an oversight (if those have finally been fixed) or a continued trend of gross/inexcusable prioritization.

selling us meme stuff while previous stuff doesn't work is already annoying. but making things that are either fantasy (thermonukes as implemented) or physically dubious (ratte) to sell us while the game's in such a state is abrasive. it is more important to add meme wonder weapons to sell dlc than it is to patch esoteric "exploits", per pdox priority. it is more important to patch esoteric "exploits" than it is to patch controls or lying ui, the latter which has lost numerous players hours-long achievement runs (either by lying in focuses or achievements themselves). these are the patterns pdox demonstrates.

it's not new, meme sa focus trees got priority over fixing a bug where a nation's own capital province can't supply the capital province. per pdox, meme this stuff is more important.

of course i'm going to argue agianst that. it is objectively less efficient to micromanage units or use strategic redeployment, right now, than it was in 2016. last i played, which was a few days ago, you could still get strat redeployment canceled by merely selecting units...a unique kind of shoddy. i can't remember the last time selecting stuff forcibly gave orders in any strategy game. again, the presumptive reason pdox made this change and (somehow) considered it acceptable is where priority is placed for the game.

making the ratte viable while historically useful vehicles are not, making near-impossible superweapons that damage infra + supply statewide when supply itself still doesn't work consistently, selling us physically dubious-to-impossible stuff when we can't even design an m18 hellcat or use ZiS-3s...all while the game still doesn't work properly...not a fan. a lot of people are, and it incentivizes this practice. i don't agree with it, but it is what it is.
And I saw also this summary.

I don't know what's free and what isn't, but the new Germany is vastly more interesting to play, similar to the Soviets after No Step Back.

The rest feels a little barebones, though. I guess the big to-do are the science facilities? But they're not really THAT interesting. I've not delved into the Red Alert/C&C type equipment yet and probably never will. Japan and the USA sorely need improvements like Germany/USSR have gotten.

Expansion seems half nazi LARP half absolutely imbalanced special projects many of which are retarded. But at least there is a lot of content...

what about... CITY CARRIERS?

Can't be bothered to look it up, but I think British were considering a floating artficial island at some point.
Indeed there was, the proposed HMS Habbakuk which was to be made by mixing sawdust, wood pulp and ice. It was supposed to be a giant aircraft carrier specifically built to defend convoys over the Mid Atlantic airplane gap in the Atlantic.

The Experimental Research system is terrible ngl. Best to just build 1 facility each at the start of the game because you don't really get a lot of benefit out of them, I wish the boost to general research was higher to make them worth it. Having to make the player pick out of a list of things is stupid busywork, just make it work like Hoi2's/Vicky2's system where a breakthrough had a random chance to occur.

The inner circle mechanics are also really stupid. You had the chance to make a focus tree that played along with the player, instead you just made it so perks unlock over time - I would've preferred it if each character in the inner circle had their own focuses depending on how they thought the war was going to sort of replicate Stellaris' Faction system but more dynamic.

Nukes aren't great, I'm getting the impression the AI doesn't build em or even knows how to use them half the time.

The good bits though, Performance is massively improved in the patch, the AI is a lot better - less prone to stalemates and seems to handle itself well against naval invasions finally. The downside is it can't Sealion for shit still.

Overall it seems like the only thing you're really getting from the DLC is focus trees for Congo, Belgium, Austria etc, ICBMs and Raids. Otherwise everything else appears free.

Will say, Patch is good for free, it'll be amazing when modders start messing around with it.
The DLC on the otherhand, which I don't have, appears to be very underwhelming.

Yeah nukes being paywalled is stupid. Fuck Paradox.

Edit: yeah way better with mods.

Edit2: Having a really funny time right now with the fact that Rise of Nations made Tanks and Machine Guns special projects. They never got invented. Funny I've basically made it so that all world conflicts will resemble what the Ukraine is going through right now IRL, where tanks are mostly useless and where the majority of the combat is done with trench warfare and aviation. Pretty silly of the game. But Loving this new AI, its actually competent, It managed to successfully invade Brazil without any hiccups. Modded AI is definitely a lot better. But its clear that the Raids and Special Projects systems are utterly broken and Paradox are stupid. *Nevermind the tank did get invented lol just really god damn late. I couldn't find which tech needed to be unlocked to allow the special project to then unlock the tech... terrible fucking system.

I can't help but wonder, after all these years, what stopped them from effing scripting Sealion invasions? I mean, just partly, to help out the AI. It's not like the geography changes, it's always the same worldmap and same tiles, the same advantageous locations. The data is there. I bet they even have telemetry about how players do it in single player.

I don't know why they can't script Japan to act like actual Japan, launching an overwhelming blitzkrieg across SEA late into 1941 instead of doing it half-assed in August. I've only seen AI Japan do okay a single time, ever. And it did do extraordinarily well (took India, China, Indochina, ALL the islands including Hawaii, and was conquering Australia). I've no idea why it popped off like that, but all other times it eats shit and dies as a nonfactor.
