I'm wearily optimistic. The dev diaries have been very well-done and show a strong historical knowledge and that they've done their research. Paradox, after a long period of mismanagement of the game, has done some excellent work with Holy Fury for CKII too.

Between the CK2 mechanics and the EUIV mechanics, there's so much to fuck up I have zero expecations here. Look at Stellaris, a game that Paradox STILL hasn't figured out what it's actually supposed to be.

the best part about this pastiche of a game* is that it prolonged the time until paradox butchers the Victoria franchise with a third installment

*it will be shit btw

This maybe will be a good game in a couple year after 7 DLCs. But I wager at release EU Rome will remain the better game even flawed as it is. The republic mechanics were funny.

I can already glimpse the planned DLCs:
Silk Road x2 (China and India)
Barbarians
Huns
Naval
English
Swedes
Christianity
