I thought to myself, after finishing vanilla morrowind and tribunal, how about I take a look at shivering isles before starting my skyrim character?

Jesus christ I was forced to stop to supress murderous rage. I didn't even get to the DLC.

Anyway I just had a nice session with Skyrim, with requiem installed. I got that redguard's quest to find his family sword. Usually it's in some cave but this time he sent me to valtheim towers. Good thing too because that's what allowed me to have some fun. I went into that cave with the two trolls first, just to take a look. They followed me outside and I started walking, which is when my lightbulb lit up. I sent them over to valtheim towers and sat behind a rock while they killed everything. Jesus christ, with that regen, they're like terminators against low level foes. Completely unstoppable. Thankfully they're kinda slow and easy to outmanouver, so I could yoink all the loot out of that place still.

Just don't mistake a werewolf with a troll. Both come out at night and in darkness (especially if you have a mod that makes nights actually dark) they kinda look the same. Except werewolves hit harder and are damn fast. I've once made the mistake of "oh I'll just kite that troll and burn it" without realizing it was a werewolf and no matter how I tried to run away, it always caught up to me. Had to revert to an older save.

Well I went balls deep into conjuration, and I haven't really found anything I can't beat with the right resurrected monsters.

HAHAHHA! That sounds hilarious. I was having trouble with those hell dogs or whatever they're called. Things are fast as hell, and you don't typically see them coming.

Checking in in this thread again to report that I finally did it... I un-installed the game.
I procrastinated this moment for quite a while, but it was inevitable.
I think I've started the game too many times with different mods combinations, and in the "final" run I had no more steam to follow the thing to its conclusion.

Also the last Unofficial Patch broke ASIS, couldn't find a solution, and I got the urge to get rid of everything.
Kind of irrational, I spent lots of time with it, and it was fun while it lasted, but I hate the fragmentation that creates having lots of unfinished games sitting there on my drive - and on my mind.
Well, a moment of silence for the piles of hours obliterated by this quick, sudden gesture.

I'm too old to keep going after this stuff.
I had 7 gigs of mods FFS.
I need to run a tighter ship here.

Yeah, I still have it installed, but I stopped playing too. I'm thinking about going back, though. I'm hoping to find some glitter in that game to keep me going through it. Requiem just makes the combat so good, but the storyline and characters are just so fucking awful. I was trying to find a good companion to keep the game interesting, but most of them are horrible. The AI sucks and most mod companion writing is very lame. I downloaded Sophia the Funny at one point. She was horrible, though.

I'm trying out Vilja now and her voice is awful. I'm probably going to kill her soon just so get rid of that annoyance.

The Unofficial Patches have finally merged for the Legendary Edition, so now there's just USLEEP, the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition patch. The DLC-specific patches are no longer supported. Luckily the team do realize that lot of finished mods, that require one of the unofficial patches as a master, will never be updated (or in a long time), so they have made instructions and a tool on how to manually change that yourself for mods.

Frostfall v3 works well and isn't as script heavy as the old version, so two thumbs up there.

So am I the only one here who is playing Skyrim completely unmodded and enjoying it as it is?

Of course I'm only on my second playthrough and I've barely sunk 10 hours in the game so far.

Moo?
Yes, those of us who have had it for years do tend to like using mods to smooth out or surgically remove the many rough edges.

I cannot fathom anyone playing it unmodded. But I won't bother with an essay on why Skyrim is an awful game out of the box and needs heavy modding, others have done it multiple times and more eloquently than I can.

Wait so it took less than ten hours to beat the game first time around? Because boy, that's a hell of a reason to mod it.

I also play Morrowind unmodded. I don't know, maybe I'm a horrible casual who doesn't deserve to own a PC and should play on console instead. But I'm not a heavy gamer in any case, so believe it or not but things like craftting is entirely new to me. Right now I just enjoy exploration.

Er, more exactly it took me less than 10 hours to give up on the MQ and grow tired of dragons after I started it. I thougth "oh boy, here come the Oblivion gates again". I also didn't like how fast-paced the MQ is.

Yeah, I played it unmodded. I'm a bit of a naturalist. I really hate to mod games. Often, mods just add stupid, unusual shit to the game that really adds nothing. I played unmodded Skyrim for maybe 10 hours until I straight up quit. The last quest I was on, I think, was the one where you have to save the tree at Whiterun. I just couldn't do it. Too easy, too boring.

Requiem does add something to the game, but I'm big on story and characters. Even modded to the teeth Skyrim is difficult to finish. Beautiful game with a nice soundtrack is what always makes me want to go back to it, but the writing and everything is just a clusterfuck that keeps me away.

I'm trying out Vilja now and her voice is awful. I'm probably going to kill her soon just so get rid of that annoyance.

Yup, the voice acting kept me from trying out Vilja. I did hear the creators implemented some crazy cool features, though. It's tempting to try out because she supposedly has really, really good AI or something. I absolutely hated Sophia the Funny. I'm not sure how so many people downloaded and endorsed it.

USLEEP is one of the other reasons I stopped playing. I had all my mods set then they released USLEEP, which a lot of mods required the Unofficial Patches as a master. I didn't want to have to go and do all those master list changes or whatever the tutorial has. If I go back to playing Requiem, I might try it.

The last thing I tried was UniMex's (or however you spell it) Ultimate Skyrim Experience. Following that tutorial had my game running so fucking well. If I ever go back, I'm starting from that once again.

After a recent sale I decided to try Skyrim. Playing it unmodded is basically out because I know I won't really like it. Actually I want a playthrough with mostly "realistic" gameplay. It should be hard, money should be huge factor, hunger, thirst, hypothermia, weapon degradation etc. and I want to adventure with a party (which I have to pay as well). Graphics are basically of no interest for me and I will use the Nexus Mod Manager.

Browsing through the nexus I came up with these mods:

all DLC + Hightextures
Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch
SKSE ofc.
Overhaul Requiem
SkyUI
Follower Mod
UIExtensions
FISS
Followers as companions?
Convenient Horses
Take Notes
Living takes time
Deadly Dragons
(Summerset Isle)
HDT Physics Extension
Skyrim Enhanced Camera / Immersive First Person View
Campfire Complete Camping System
Frostfall
iNeed or Realistic Needs and Diseases
Hypothermia Plus - Unofficial Upgrade?
Wet and Cold
Perseids Inns and Taverns
Expanded Towns and Cities
The Notice Board
Immersive questing
Not So Fast - Main Quest
Jobs of Skyrim –WIP
Weapons and Armor Degradation and Repair with MCM Menu Options
Immersive Naked Comments
Life In Prison
(THE PEOPLE OF SKYRIM ULTIMATE EDITION)
3D Loadscreens - 40 Brand New
Original - Immersive Bounty Hunting
People are Strangers
Black Horse Courier Reborn
Immersive Speechcraft
Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul
Ovens and Churns of Skyrim
Taxes of the Nine Holds

Can the codex help me out by telling me if these mods are
1. good,
2. compatible with each other
3. or are there better alternatives to some mods?
4. Other Must have mods I missed?

Is there a complete overhaul mod which covers my needs and is adjustable? (similar to Project Nevada to F:NV).

What does this stupid buzzword even mean ? It seems like modders don't simply want to use the adjective "better" anymore. If it had been trendy when Morrowind came out, we'd have had mods like Immersive Bodies and Immersive Clothes.
Anyway, it seems to me that this Immersive Naked Comments is definitely a must-have ! I couldn't imagine playing without it !

Rreactive npcs are important and details matter.

Especially when your pc is naked. Think about all the possibilities when the nsfw mods are getting installed!

Considering Requiem's Alteration provides a very strong armor spell, it should be possible to play a naked character, true Nord style. Hm...

Would require an immersive dongs mod first.

Schlongs of Skyrim

(Actually you'd see only your toon's ass in 3rd person, you'd have to use one of those 1st person camera mods. Hm...)

What's the point anyway. The real problem I have with Skyrim suddenly is the awful writing and railroading. Yes, you're free to do anything most of the time, but once you hit Beth's railroad, you are literally locked in a wagon with your hands tied and ass glued to the passenger's seat. (And now I realize that I have descripted the intro sequence of the game, which puts it in a whole new light of ominousness).
As in, the first Companions quest: the guy who has been behind my back the whole time suddenly turns into a werewolf and at no point am I given the opportunity to voice my slight concern about it ? Apparently my character is supposed to find that Kewl And Edgy.
