Improving Skyrim / Recommended Mods thread (Mostly about Requiem)

The Unofficial Patches have finally merged for the Legendary Edition, so now there's just USLEEP, the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition patch. The DLC-specific patches are no longer supported.
And that's some major :decline: . I can understand DB and DG becomin de facto standard, but fucking herpfire?

It was dirt cheap on Steam that literally everyone can afford it by now.

I actually like it - since the Legendary Edition lumps them all together anyway, why not make a single patch that covers it all?

Morkar go with Realistic Needs and Diseases over iNeed as it's more compatible with Frostall and Hunterborn. And yeah get Hunterborn as it makes hunting the wildlife more IMMERSIVE!!! Nah, it's actually pretty good. Notice Board is not really compatible with Requiem, I mean it technically is but not really in spirit, because the quests will throw you all over the world, huting Dweomer artefacts or gathering a Glass Armor set or shit like that. I installed it in the hope that it would be great for a new character in Requiem, just starting, but not really. It's clearly intended to be used with Fast Travel and Level Scaling. Hypothermia Plus conflicts with Frostfall and as v3 fixed the only issue people could have with Frostfall (heavy script load), there's no need to use an older mod over it. Don't start with Deadly Dragons installed if you also have Requiem because the random dragons will beat your ass and make life too difficult. When you're at high enough level to comfortably deal with Requiem dragons and you're ready to advance the main quest further, then go with Deadly Dragons and Dragon Combat Overhaul to ramp up the challenge. Living Takes Time is great but I removed once I realized that crafting becomes almost impossible - because you'll craft a sword and a helmet, take a break to eat and drink, work pelts to leathers, take a break to eat and drink and sleep, brew five potions, eat & drink, and so on. The idea is great and it works if you're not really crafting anything much or just one or two items now and then. But if you want to increase Smithing, Alchemy or Enchanting to high levels, you'll go crazy - and Requiem carry weight limits mean that you won't be able to carry around much food and crafting materials at the same time. You'll want to add They Hunger as it removes lot of the excess food in Skyrim, meaning that food actually becomes valuable. Dynamic Things is great as it allows you to turn any container into a permanent, safe to store shit in, one. Oh and The Drinking Fountains of Skyrim by that Italian dude is great, you don't wanna die of thirst after all and it is crazy that villages/towns would not have functioning wells.

You said you don't care about graphics but I would still recommend a few things:

Pure Waters makes water look so much better than in vanilla without introducing crazy lens flare or shit like that. It's also not very heavy on your PC.

FNIS Sexy Move makes women walk like women and not like men. Despite it's name, it's not only about sexiness - what it does it makes 9 different walking animations possible for all female characters. You can switch some of them off if you don't like them and you can tell the mod to ensure that heavy armor users walk more like men and so on. If nothing else, it brings variety to the characters and since you're going to have loads more NPCs walking around, the impact will be significant.

Immersive Hud removes all GUI elements from the screen and you can configure when they show up, including stealth and aiming cursors.

Dead Body Collision Fix makes all bodies properly corporeal. You can pile bodies on top of each other, they don't slide through objects and so on. You can even walk over corpses.

Point the Way adds more road signs all over the place. Not too many, but enough that if you're like me and have disabled fast travel completely, you don't need to check map all the time.

Yes but iHud shows me sneak symbol while hiding everything else. Or hides the targeting reticule except when I draw my bow. And so on.
I still have those. Only things that are hidden are the compass, the quest markers on the compass and all that "Interesting cave 200 meters on your left" GPS bullshit.

I'm not sure you understand me, friend. When I'm outside of combat, iHud keeps everything hidden. If I go into sneak mode, it shows the sneaking symbol, nothing more (I use that only because of the retarded sneaking system of Skyrim where enemies always know where you are if they have once seen you). If I get hurt, my life bar becomes visible but fades again as soon as I'm at 100% health, same with magicka and stamina. The targeting reticule comes out only when I'm 1st person mode and actually drawing my bow. All the while keeping the compass entirely hidden. That's not possible with just an .ini edit.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I found a mod that removes the silly robed plate armor from hold guards: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/56652/
I don't like or plan on doing the civil war quest line anyway, not that the armor change in it matters much.

I also copy individual npc records like that of Commander Caius, to get rid of their silly armor. Especially when they wear an ugly, plastic toy looking armor like the "Orichalcum" variant Caius wears in the later versions of requiem.

For regular clothes and robes I found this adds more life to that part of Skyrim: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19826/?
Although I'm not a fan of the archmage retexture there, which I replaced with a different retex, the rest is fantastic.

And I also just made a texture fix, for the Vigilants of Stendarr. They use a copied texture of the vanilla non-hd steel plate armor because they require a different alpha mask, and I replaced it with the hd amidianborn texture, and copied over the alpha. You can download it here: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=93626673386610044936

iHud. Garf, you disappoint me. I gave iHud a try back in the day, turns out it didn't really mesh well with something else - I ended up disabling all HUD elements with an .ini edit. It's great and everyone should atleast try it. I haven't played Skyrim in a while, but I have the 'compass' from Hunterborn to know where I'm going and stuff actually surprises me now even though HAH I'VE BEEN ALL ACROSS TAMRIEL.

Regarding iHud, with Enhanced Camera I can afford to turn off the sneak symbol altogether (as if I get oblivious and forget if I'm sneaking I can look down) and get rid of magic mindreading radar that tells me whether or not someone is suspecting somebody without actually observing NPCs in question.

If you want a bit of a Vilja style companion, but less annoying, you can try Inigo.
There are some jarring things about this mod (some names, mainly) and Inigo is a bit fucked up in the head (being an ex-skooma head and all), but he makes an enjoyable and *very reactive* companion.
On the downside, he doesn't have some of Vilja's utility skills or the ability to cast healing spells at you when you're about to get stomped and doesn't interact as much with vanilla (or vanilla voiced) characters.
Of course you can use both and they interact with each other for extra liveliness, but then you will have to deal with Vilja's wymynly stuff - overall, along with 3DNPCs it's not a bad choice if you prefer to adventure with a bigger party.

I also play Morrowind unmodded. I don't know, maybe I'm a horrible casual who doesn't deserve to own a PC and should play on console instead. But I'm not a heavy gamer in any case, so believe it or not but things like craftting is entirely new to me. Right now I just enjoy exploration.
Morrowind has less need for mods, though.

I wouldn't rate vanilla Skyrim as bad or even mediocre, but it does have quite a few, quite big problems, and unlike Morrowind's main problems (poor enemy AI and spell selection) they have been adequately addressed by mods.

Oh, another BTW (cool story bro time):
Morrowloot's Chrysamere fucking rawks. It doesn't seem that impressive statwise, but with nice damage, basic fire enchant, some extra defensive helpers and HIDDEN AP MODIFIER!!! it slices up even enchanted spheres nicely.
I recently obtained godlike Aetherium Cuirass after really hairy fight in that Dwemer storage and was surprised at how effective Chrysamere was compared to about everything else I had.

Earlier on I also had a funny run-in with a dragon, where I ended up stripping off and dropping my heavy cuirass and running around buttnaked (you can't change armor in combat with Requiem, but you can discard even equipped items) because I really needed that extra bit of mobility and (fucker spat mean, 1HK fireballs) smaller casting costs.

Yesterday I also had a pretty awesome clash with a giant when I was trying to figure out how to obtain certain thing from a giant camp occupying an enclosed valley, without necessarily having to fight, and two of my followers accidentally pissed a giant guarding the entrance, so I had to run back to their rescue from rocks overlooking the camp. I ran towards the giant slinging spells, and switched to Chrysamere (which is good, but not *that* awesome against regular stuff not protected by several inches of plating) and obligatory whirlwind sprint up close. I dashed right under the incoming club, then got a half assed bonk in the face that despite getting blocked still put me in the red, so to speak, made some jumping dodges and finally managed to fell the giant like some particularly ugly tree.
Luckily the one deep inside camp was far enough and shielded by enough winding cliffs to not notice, so the rest of my plan regarding not participating in a friendly game of giant golf gone pretty well, although I had to abstain from also checking the contents of the chest I noticed inside the camp as the other giant started to make rude gestures as we approached, so we departed.

Well. I have started Skyrim for the first time and since I must be some kind of a masochist, I am playing it in legendary with the Requiem mod. My thief type of character, level 4, is getting his ass handed in just every battle. Even lowering the difficulty helps little.

I am just exploring the world but I think I will backtrack to Whiterun. It would be great if I could find a dungeon I could handle, complete a sidequest or, you know, make just any kind of progress.

You chose the most difficult character archetype to play. You reap what you sow. I hope you at least use bows as sneaking up to enemies with a dagger is pretty darn difficult at low levels.

That's a bit brutal.
Plus, I tend to use Ralis if I actually plan to get the Ebony Mail.

Difficulty settings are disabled in Requiem.
You can play with sliders, but they don't do shit.

You are basically fucked.

I doubt you will actually find any easy place at all, and if you do use bows and try to sneak shoot people/things, not that it will do much, but it helps abit.

Should've gone with caster masterrace if you want to play Requiem taxalot. They get a shitty start just like the rest of them, but they quickly become stronk and end up being stronkest of them all once they level up some.

Though I just might give a pure melee build a try too since I haven't played the last few versions of Requiem; I bet it'd be pretty br00tal if you aren't allowed to use even alchemy.

Well, the difficulty sliders being disabled explain stuff. I also think it was a bad idea to explore too much since level scaling is apparently off. I get insta killed even walking on the roads between towns.

I'm just level 4 and haven't done anything I consider serious. I still have plenty of time to specialize, I guess, specifically raise my sword skills. I also found a set of heavy armor and it made me character moves like a turtle. Maybe I should also raise that, but that seems off with the kind of character I'm playing.

I had recruited a modded companion, Sofia, but ditched her because of all the 14 years old sex innuendos. Still, I might have to use her again for combat. Having her melee while I get near the opponent and shoot at it close range could be a nice strategy.

I had not noticed but apparently Requiem provides a large range of difficulty settings in its own sub menu. If I can't overcome, there will always be that.
