Bard's Tale lives in aural: https://www.gamasutra.com/view/pressreleases/379783/THE_BARDS_TALE_IN_YOUR_SMART_SPEAKER.php

THE BARD'S TALE IN YOUR SMART SPEAKER

BODEN, SWEDEN, April 14, 2021. Wanderword, the pioneer in audio entertainment, has signed a contract with Brian Fargo’s inXile Entertainment to produce an interactive audio version of the iconic The Bard’s Tale fantasy role-playing game.

"The Bard’s Tale was a series of games that embraced an early medium and entertained a generation. I‘m excited to see Wanderword take the beloved franchise into the new medium of audio and voice recognition games. The Bard’s Tale world was a deeper experience thanks to our many hours spent reading the great fantasy novels, it makes sense to reconnect with the storytelling we do in our minds. I am confident they are the right partner to make this version of Bard’s Tale a truly unique interactive audio experience." Brian Fargo, InXile Entertainment.

The Bard’s Tale is one of the most iconic fantasy games ever made. The game’s history goes back to 1985, where it blew players away with some of the first-ever 3D graphics and complex facial animations. The original Bard’s Tale was very successful, becoming the best-selling computer RPG of the 1980s with close to half a million copies sold. You can still see direct signs of the massive influence of The Bard’s Tale when looking at any number of modern AAA titles.

"With many of us having played through the cult classics back in the day, it's an absolute privilege to shoulder the responsibility of taking the game series to a brand new platform." Henrik Lindfors, Lead Designer, Wanderword.

There are shining parallels between the roots of the video game industry in 1985 and the roots of the interactive audio industry in 2021. As Wanderword aims to make an impact on the burgeoning interactive audio landscape and hoping to embody the same creative spirit and inventive vision that Brian Fargo showed in helping to create The Bard’s Tale.

Wanderword’s Polar Night Studio located in Boden, Sweden is set to begin development shortly.

New to Interactive Audio Entertainment, play the free RPG The Cursed Painting now.

Looking for Streamers
c84f3a_5566559d00a24372ba96fb1c71b15e12~mv2.webp

Got a streamer in mind who's into RPGs and you think would be a great candidate to share inXile content? Let us know! Content creators we reach out to will get first dibs on new and upcoming info, help us bring content to the masses, and also get cool stuff to share while building their communities.

Maybe it's a streamer who's just starting out who really, really adores RPGs and/or inXile games; or someone with a great personality who has yet to be exposed to inXile's catalog, (but you want us to convince them); or just someone you think could be the next big thing. Use the form below to point us in their direction and we'll do the rest. :)

Thanks for reading! Keep in mind that we're not necessarily going to be able to reach out to all the content creators you suggest, but we'll do our very best to consider all of your suggestions!

Cheers,

Team inXile

Fargo was also excited for the "visuals, design and writing" of Wasteland 2 and Bard's Tale so this isn't exactly a high bar to clear.

It's Arcanum-style FPS RPG, it's been leaked many times.

What does Arcanum-style mean? Similar setting?
Yeah, a steampunk game. LESSTT posted their page (forgot the website) where a couple of their lead designers "like" hundreds of pics for refs, and all of it was pure steampunk.
And there's been a lot of solid evidence that it's a first person game.
Some people thought maybe it was an Arcanum sequel just like it's been conceived at the time. If not, then it's just a very similar game.

I wonder if Fargo worked his magic and secured an Arcanum license from whoever owns it now.

One of the few things they officially confirmed is that it's a new IP, new world, or whatever. So no Arcanum.

It's a useless franchise. Didn't he get the Wasteland franchise from EA or Activison, too? It's no biggie, I think.

Obsidian people have confirmed that they've tried to license Arcanum from Activision and were told no. They don't want to fund an Arcanum game and they don't want other people making money off it either, just squatting on the IP.

Obsidian people are absolute incompetent morons.

Fargo is a jew-level of businessman that has many friends in other companies.

Don't compare.
