muh embarrassing over-sexualisation

the fuck :prosper:

And as always, the retard doesn't get what the point is.

The character is called Bombshell. The emphasis on her sex appeal has nothing to do with any 90s convention, it's in the fucking name. She's supposed to be the female counterpart to Duke, so it's only naturally she would be a big tittied blonde bombshell.

She may be called Bombshell but... but... butt-er-face! Bitch's face looks like something out of a lost David Lynch film played by Grace Zabriskie.

Hi--founder of Voidpoint and leader of the Ion Maiden development team here.

We went with our own interpretation of the character despite having access to these 90's designs not specifically for the sake of avoiding "sexualization" or being "progressive", but because we felt it simply didn't make for a terribly interesting character. It's not about catering to any specific crowd, it's about choosing a direction that best fits the artistic vision we're trying to bring to life.

We wanted a character who could be compared to and identified with Anne Lewis or Ellen Ripley--a badass. Not someone with a belly tat who you'd be more likely to relate to the stars of DP vids on pornhub. There's a time and a place for that, but this is neither.

Hmm. Makes you think.

Lmao, i had to google Anne Lewis.

It's a nonsense argument because this IS precisely the time and place for that, given that Bombshell is supposed to be the female counterpart part to Duke. But whatever at this point, could have gone a lot worse. And there doesn't seem to be any humor in the game anyway, so i guess we can just take this to be a different character and universe and forget any connection with Duke Nukem.

My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
To be honest, there'd be no point in an initial design like that unless you could look down and see your boobs, which I don't think can be pulled off quite right in a 2.5D engine like Build, so I fully understand where the developers are coming from.

Decline. Nothing but decline. Why did they have to go for the constipated lesbo look? The first iterations were much cooler.

Some guys go for that Michelle Rodriguez constipated angry lesbo look, though I don't count myself among this oppressed minority group. I'm all maaaaaan. Give me big bimbo tits, barbie-face and fake plastic assed fun-with-a-gun over this any day.

This whole thing really is nothing short of a massive marketing failure. SJWs don't buy games and even if they did they are not interested in Duke Nukem 3D or anything even close to it. The entire audience for this game are people who liked Duke Nukem 3D.

Now, I actually quite like the new design, it's nowhere near as bad as the one in Bombshell with the awful side cut, but there really was no point to this newspost. Who was it for? Brownie points from SJWs in hopes that Polygon would cover the game and how brave the devs are for saying the old designs of Shelly were rape culture? They haven't generated any positive buzz about the game by going on about this and the "how far we've come!!" stuff is ultra cringey, all they have done in-fact is make the people who were tired of games being injected with political agendas less confident in the game, because they were expecting a non-politically charged game that parodies just about everything (ala Duke, Blood, Shadow Warrior, you know). It's about as bad as Randy Pitchford going on twitter with the official Duke Nukem account and telling a fat ugly tranny that it can be one of Duke's babes, and then afterwards going "I'm not an SJW, I own the Duke Nukem franchise, guys!!"

This is all really quite sad. I really like this game and the developers at Voidpoint seem like nice guys that were totally detached from this as far as I can tell. Schreiber shoulda kept his mouth shut. If he really cared about muh feminism and muh imaginary female oppression in video games he shoulda let the art/redesign that pretty much nobody was questioning until now speak for itself, instead of going in for good boy points. Now everywhere people were excited for this game is shitflinging about SJWs. The myth that even bad publicity is good publicity doesn't apply when you're actively alienating your target audience (looking for over the top parody action game) in favor of people that don't buy games (the people that think Gone Home counts as a video game). It's like Mighty No. 9's trailers making fun of nerds not getting a date for the prom or whatever the fuck they did with that.

Case in point: A Voidpoint dev on Steam forums doing much needed damage control to detach their guys from the newspost by the 3DR guy:

Kinda funny, throwing him under the bus like that.

Schreiber (the 3DR guy who made the news post) doing his own damage control after the responses to what he was saying in the newspost was met entirely negatively by basically everyone. How not to market your game to old school gamers who want to play Duke 3D with a fresh coat of paint 101. That bit about 3DR with the rating systems is also way too similar to Randy :
"I'm not an SJW, I own the Duke Nukem franchise, guys!!"

Wait... is that both a floppy AND a USB key?

I don't think the floppy would work with that thing sticking out on the side.

Some guy on youtube made a better version, but it requires a modified floppy drive. He basically stuck an SD card on the floppy's 'window', and a card reader inside the floppy drive, I'll try to find it.

but it requires a modified floppy drive.

So how is that better?

How big is this game, 35mb? It's pointless to sperg about whether you can read the disc or not. There's no game in there.

Better in the sense that you can simulate the use of a floppy drive and not have the floppy simply hanging off a USB port. But yeah, both methods obviously get the job done, it's just a gimmick.

I've bent, broken, drilled and surgically pulled apart my share of 3.5" floppies through the years, and the USB key is located in a non-essential part of the floppy. If they use lightweight materials in the USB part of the floppy disk, it should be perfectly fine and usable in any 3.5" floppy drive - except the USB part can't be read by the drive, of course.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. Missed out the part where the USB is connected to the flap. Still, if designed properly it should be usable in a drive, but I'd need a closer look to find out.

The boxed collector's copy of Thimbleweed Park also came with a floppy disk, and it contained a couple of ThimbPark-related files... and a speck of dust IIRC.

I had to laugh when the developer in his steam quotes above emphatically stated "We're completely non-political" not because I thought it wasn't true (I'm sure it is true) but because professional game developers do seem to take pains NOT to be overtly political in their games. There's a charming moment in a John Romero stream from his home with his young son who helped him design a recent game and they're at the monitor looking over the product just released or about to be released. His kid says "We need a Donald Trump character in this game." John's eyes immediately flash to red alert status as he looks at his son and sternly says something like "NO! We're not going to get political here... at all!" :hahano:

You know, a funny thought has just crossed my mind. The perfect way to give Shelly personality and to indirectly tie this game with Duke.

Just base Shelly on Peggy from this (and this - and yes, the pranker in this one behaves like a swine, he does ultimately get his ass handed to him). Maybe even with tracking down actual Peggy somehow and offering her the actual job of being the official voice actress and the co-writer on Ion Maiden (if she is still in any shape to do that).

Maybe it wouldn't fit the current vision of the game all that much, but it would be a vastly better and more memorable Shelly, than the current one regardless.

Why is it so hard to just let people create their own art out of their own volition? Why does everyone have to become some shreeking degenerate bitch because something doesnt go his way?

Youre just a customer. Shut your little trap mouth.

Why is it so hard to just let people create their own art out of their own volition?

They are asking for OTHER PEOPLES MONEY to PAY for their art.

Youre just a customer. Shut your mouth.

BUYING A PRODUCT inherently conveys a right to assess and criticize the value of the item.

The "commercial creator" can then accept or discount criticism, at risk of finding that it resonates with other customers.

Nonono. They are not asking anybody. They are merely offering their product. If people like their art, they pay. If not, well they dont have to do anything. They are not being approached, they are not being bothered. And also i would argue that the main portion of SJW or anti-SJW retards throwing a hissyfit over the next best piece of art/entertainment never intended to even pay a single dime for it.

Dude you should calm down. Im not demanding legislation or something to prohibit your precious SJW-discussions. I am merely urging people to consider how they manufacture their criticism. There is a difference between criticizing a product and commanding creators to fit their political agenda beforehand, most likely simply to showcase their power/influence. And of course you are allowed to criticize in general, but if you base it on petty retarded shit then your criticism itself becomes a worthless pile of steaming shit. Its even less than worthless because it eats peoples attention and therefor wastes time. Its a negative net worth.

People always like to point out that everyone has to cherish their precious rights, yet they do not even respect those rights themselves in a proper way. They neglect that with every right you possess comes responsibility.

You have the right to vote, therefor you have the responsibility to inform yourself about the current political landscape. You have the right to bear arms, therefor you have the responsibility to keep others from possible harm that weapon could inflinct upon them. You have the right to procreate, therefor you have the responsibility to raise your child.

And you have the right to write user reviews about an indie retro fps based on the build engine, therefor you have the responsibility not to be a drooling lunatic who likes to drag others into some political wankfest and drag attention away from worthwhile discussion about gameplay.

I mean we all know how fed up you guys are with third wave feminist nutjobs. But sorry man, nobody cares.
