I didn't play Resident Evil Village and 7 because they were in the wrong perspective/camera. Well, played 7 partially. Even aside from inferior first person view, I didn't like the new direction. I don't know what other games you might be referring to. Up to 6 and Revelations 2 they were still using old characters.

Referring to 7 and 8 ofc. And only 7 starts out as a hiding evading type game. It becomes combat oriented over time, about as much as the original Resident Evils. 8 has alot more shooting. It's closer to RE4 and 5 than it is to the originals. I think those games were interesting experiments and they mostly worked but I've seen enough. I'd like for the mainline entries to go back to basics. Atleast pre-RE6. Or a Code Veronica remake. I'd be stoked for a Code Veronica remake.
