Do you know of anyone who has some of the older builds?
Sorry man, lost my personal backups over the years and the oldest one I was able to recover was 4870.
Fine by me, cause that's just about when shit started to roll downhill.
My archived hard drive wasn't able to boot up when I tried to run it on another system. Lost two pretty intense years of work and stuff I collected in Ja2. It was cool that Kermi asked me to EMail him some stuff and I sent some more to a couple other people but I didn't see it on his site. I guess he discarded it or something.

I actually just looked again and managed to get my hands on a 2085 from a polish site.
https://jagged-alliance.pl/plik442/

Did a basic sweep of the forums, doesn't seem anyone's got anything older and they don't really recommend anyone using legacy builds,
so I reckon they're there just for that handful of mods that use them.

Cool! Anything from 2112 on back is at least enjoyable to me.

Thanks man.

Last I checked the GUI editor for 1.13 was considered outdated and you should edit the settings in Notepad or another text editor instead. Don't have any source for that but just worth mentioning.

Has anything come out from that mod project that allowed adding new models to JA2?
It's called LOBOT and yes, russian modders worked on it, probably still work on expanding it.
it's even got a thread here: https://rpgcodex.net/forums/threads...and-animations-mod.140222/page-2#post-7674408

IIRC you can still download and build old 1.13 versions from source from the SVN repo.

Do you know of anyone who has some of the older builds? The .687 was the last one I really liked and the 2112 was the last one I had any fun at all playing.
You can find all kinds of old releases here:
https://storage.rcs-rds.ro/links/4729f8d6-f44b-42b7-aa3e-e0ddc6deead6?path=/JA_2/v1.13_Releases/Official/English

You may be also interested in unofficial 2085en modpack, which additionally provides possibility to play with some map mods:
NightOps
Wildfire
JMM
Reconquista
Just select required mod in Ja2.ini and run Ja2.exe
There is also very good Renegade Republic mod available for 2085 (or 2112 exe which is slightly improved version of the same release), though it's not 100% finished or polished but still a lot of fun if you want new quests and such. Renegade Republic is probably one of very few 1.13 mods (together with Arulco Revisited, which is only available starting from 4870 release) which I ever nearly finished.
I also agree that 2085 is one of the best releases for 1.13, it still has a lot from vanilla but at the same time many useful improvements.
To install 2085 modpack, download 2085en + Mods.7z.001 from the link and unpack it into a folder with clean vanilla ja2 game.

If you are interested in Renegade Republic SCI for 2085, you may find it here:

or here (official 1.13 repository for mods):

Very glad to hear you liked Renegade Republic :salute: I spent so much time on it.
Did i read it correctly that you fixed some xml mistakes to make it more stable? Are you linking to such an improved version here?

On a side note, The Fight for Freedom mod bases on version 5465 of 1.13, also long before 7609.

Yes, the linked RR version has some xml bugs fixed and also audio quality improved, with clicks and noise removed from many files.
From the included readme:
Merc/NPC speech slightly improved - normalized sound level, removed some noise.
Also converted most of the files to .ogg format to save some space.
(deleted original BattleSNDS, Speech and NPC_Speech dirs in Data-Renegade folder first)
- "EnemyGunChoices":
Fixed bug with EnemyGunChoices.xml, that was introduced in allinone patch -
at certain progress level the number of choices was greater than actual number of supplied items,
that most likely caused crash at the start of the battle.
- "MovementCosts":
Fixed MovementCosts.xml (mismatching opposite directions)
So much memories from playing this mod!

Thanks for the version with the fixes. So I'm up to date with my mod again. Funny enough, I recently moved and found old RR mod versions saved on CD from the mid-2000's, man it has been a while :D

This is AWESOME! Has a lot of the original pre 1.13 modding tools too and some I've never heard of.

This does have the .687 too so it's a veritable jackpot for me. Thanks man.

playing sevenfm's excellent modpack

I'm liking Arulco revisited + SDO

I never thought anyone would ever manage to make NCTH not suck, but SDO and sevenfm seem to have done it. The LOBOT animations and new sprites are obvious incline, but I will say I'm a little disappointed that there isnt more variety in the weapon models - granted it would be excessive work to make new sprites for every single gun in bloated 1.13 but it's a little annoying when you have something like a semi auto sniper rifle and the sprite is a wood stock bolt action rifle. That said, this is still more variety than vanilla JA2's so we cant complain too much, we still have massive incline like being able to see the difference between an AK, an M16 and a FAL.

wrt to Arulco Revisited, I haven't played too much yet but I like the idea on paper. I always felt you get access to the airport too early in JA2, and that gating weapon progress by bobby ray's stock was elegant but gamey. AR instead has you acquiring much of what you need from sectors on the map, so now it makes much more sense to raid some obscure town for supplies or hit a warehouse in the boonies for their weapons. More of a guerilla war effort early on and less of a funded by Biden's sex trafficking network sort of thing.

What's that in English?

Stock Data Overhaul

As far I understand it it was a mod that overhauled the stats of just about every item in 1.13 and also adjusted the balance/progression. It goes a long way to making New Chance To Hit system feel good instead of being a miserable shit. LOBOT is the new big thing which adds new animations and sprites, including visible gear on mercs.

On OCTH vs NCTH:

in 2020 on bear's pit forum, sevenfm opined that "NCTH is a terrible thing for AI and game balance. If you want suppression to work as it should, you need to play OCTH".

Sevenfm it would be interesting to hear your up to date thoughts about this subject.

Subjectively, I feel that your AI is a little duller when I'm playing with NCTH, as opposed to on OCTH where they are vicious as hell and I have to try to split the enemy force or reposition constantly to avoid being suppressed, flanked and destroyed in short order.

There were many changes since then in +AI, so I guess it should work much better when using NCTH now, and also suppression in +AI should work more effectively now when using NCTH.
The main difference for AI is that there is no real CTH in NCTH, so you don't know exactly the chance to hit enemy, especially on long distance, and it creates the problem for AI with decisions.
For that reason, OCTH works better for AI decision making, apart from that I don't think there's much difference.
Also autofire in OCTH can be calculated much more predictably compared to NCTH where there's no reliable way to know if your fourth bullet will hit enemy or roof or your friend standing 6 tiles away.
I think in OCTH everybody is more accurate in general, the same effect probably will be seen in some mods that tweak NCTH for higher accuracy like Aimnas or Brainmod.
