I just downloaded the original Urban Chaos for JA2. No extra mods. The last UC version. The kicker is: it plays very much like that new video ie. guys with Marksmanship 80+, Dexterity 80+ miss more than half the shots at 1-5 tile range. And NPCs are psychic, they spot you from behind doors, their backs turned to you with you hidden 15 tiles away. The goes for your mercs, too. You can see everyone in a range even if they're behind.

Surely something has to be wrong here? This UC I'm playing has almost nothing to do with Vanilla JA2.
That's how vanilla JA2 works.

Not the vanilla JA2 I played.

That's worse then how even JA 1 works.

so someone please explain it to me... they take a game only nerds loved and strip it of all the nerds loved and try to sell it to WHOM exactly?

all i could come up with is they think we get dumber with age, but that's stupid so...?

It's a simple matter of BitComposer misjudging their own ability to handle the shitstorm that came when they announced that the game was going to be realtime. They most likely predicted that the old fans would cool down after a while and accept the new system, while simultainously thinking the new system would attract a new fanbase.
Looks like they were wrong in both regards.

The terrain on that map looks like something I could cross in less then 4h... on foot.

That's a good thing actually. That the map is small and straightforward.
Memorizing things in games is tedious.

I also hope JA2 reloaded will feature aimbots and then the combat will be challenging and worthy of Codex

Snippets from the preview:

-all new VO for all the mercs as the old ones used "antiquated technology", good luck trying to get the same quality as in JA2

-animated portraits for all the mercs

-quest compass! "When we want to assign a side quest where we must supply a village with food, the village will be highlighted on the map, along with our first point of contact, a priest" - that's the very first thing you're supposed to do in JA2. Oh yes, glowing tiles on the map, question marks above NPC heads, that's just what JA2 remake needs!

-they fucked up the map as there are "no simple rectangular sectors, this time the borders are more organic so, we don't take E5 but an entire city with its suburbs." Yeah, right. Now, this could be cool, that all the sectors seamlessly join together (avoiding the border exploits) but I bet it's just a ploy to reduce the number of sectors instead.

One of you choose a different avatar, plz.

Regarding the new VO, I can only  . At least this game is clearly trolling us long-time fans, it's not like they're trying to give us false hope.

Yeah, I know, original JA2 VOs were teh shit, the new ones will suck. News at 11.

To be fair, unless they got their hands on master VO files from JA2 (dunno the details, but I would say noc an do), recording it again from scratch is the only way.
Otherwise, supposing they'd want to add any other audio (and they prolly will) you'll hear the difference. It's like mixing 128 mp3s with lossless flacs in one package, you simply don't do shit like that.

I just noticed they posted that there's no change to the number of sectors on the official forum. I don't quite get how that goes together with that new map, maybe the map was just a mockup cobbled together for the article deadline or something.

You can rest assured:
there will be no changes to the number of sectors (and only minor changes to their individual layout, actually).

This however also means there will be no changes to the militia / NPC system (at least there is none that i know of.. havent seen the latest build yet).
We noted those suggestions for a JaggedAlliance 3, but the plan & go system was the only notable change to JA2.

That's from the FAQ and is many months old. The map is much more recent so I'd say they just simply lied before or maybe had no solid idea at the time or something.

Quite possible. After all, remember mess occuring each time BC tries to tackle their community management and PR.

Sometimes I've got an impression they have no idea what they are doing and - especially - what they're trying to put as a pamphlet in our mailboxes. Being studing the profiles of some important people in BC led me to believe that they are (more or less) competent, but working in completely wrong branch.

Who cares? You all still have your original JA2 disks so who gives a shit? It's not like you'd ever get another JA game like that ever again. It's not like bitComposer will send out thugs to destroy your copies and every trace of JA2 forcing you to play this instead.

So someone is trying to cash in on the name, big deal. Has happened before, will happen again.

If it turns out against the odds to be pleasant enough then great, I'll play it even. It won't mean that I'll wallow in my own feces lamenting the fact that it's not JA2 as I have JA2 for that!

If it's shit, then I'll just play JA2 anyway.

Win/win regardless.

I rage because just like people think F3 is "THE" Fallout, people will think that this flop is "THE" Jagged Alliance. Hopefully it'll tank hard enough and that won't happen. Anyway, :rage: :rage: :rage: keeps me going
