Apparently, BC was asking what the community wanted, but went ahead and ignored it.

Full translation by Shanga:
To ensure that Jagged Alliance 2 makes a successful transition into 2011 and that the remake is as attractive as possible to players who know the Jagged Alliance series and to those who have yet to play it, we will simply make a few changes to the existing JA2 combat system.

Well that explains it.

Guys, I am going to remake the classic JA2, known for its excellent turn-based combat.
BTW it's real-time combat now.

:x

Why don't they just make a new fucking game FFS

Because they will have to come up with the name first. And that requires more creativity than making shit.

No fog of war? What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck?

RT can be good with a good AI and planning tools (which the game certainly won't have). But no fog of war? What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck?

Don't worry, video game critics will still think it's turn based and that is why it'll bomb.

Moo?
Any time a developer decides to use the word 'dynamic' in conjunction with an RPG or turn-based strategy game, deduct 3 points automatically from the final score.

Fuck you, play an action game.

Insert clever insult here
Are they self-publishing? If yes, then it's all their fault for being retards. If not, then it's the publishers fault who think that turn-based won't sell in modern times.

The planned game mechanics sound a bit like Syndicate's.

And "streamlining" I get, I don't think anyone seriously expected a 1.13 out of this (except possibly with mods), but I don't see how their realtime with pause could sell any more copies than proper turn-based would, given that we're talking about a PC Jagged Alliance game. To do that they would have to dumb the entire game down to Bejeweled levels and focus on the casual market completely, and I don't think those players would be interested in any JA-like game at all. So, to me, this seems as not only a dubious design decision, but a business one too.

The game probably won't be better than Company of Heroes at what CoH did, and overall it looks like they have no clear picture of who they're trying to sell this game to. What does Codex think, how do you imagine a typical player of this remake? How many of them are there? What other games do they play?

On the other hand I was pleasantly surpsied by 7.62 or whatever that game was called and what I can only assume is the system they're basing this pause and go stuff on. It's not bad for a tactical game, I found, but why couldn't they call it 7.62.2?

bitcomposer has nothing to do with Brigade E5/7.62 franchise or its developers (and proprietary system). They could just as well "base this pause and go stuff" on Dragon Age.

Anyway, we all already have our 1.13, so I don't understand what the fuss is about. They already wrote "WE SUCK NIGGER COCKS AND ENJOY IT" in large neon letters on their foreheads the moment they pussied out on "racist stuff", from then on this product of excretion should be safe to utterly ignore. There is only one Jagged Alliance 2. There are no "remakes".

Yes! That would be awesome though my evil wizard polymorphs into one while riding around on a dragon. Then eventually into a pit fiend at higher levels. :bounce:

Dummies guide to making money with the JA2 license:

1. Remake in 3D. Change exactly 0 of the actual gameplay mechanics from what they are in 1.13.
2. Put on Steam/ps3/xbox.
3. Spend $1 million on advertisement/bribes/reviwer blowjobs.
4. Profit like mad.

Changing the JA2 game mechanics is like starting up a new car company and deciding to reinvent the wheel. The difference being that your wheels are going to be square shaped because your consultants tell you that square wheels are just so in style nowadays.

Why even use the title if you are going to strip it of an essential gameplay element?

I was going to give it the once over, but now I don't even want to see it for free.

Great. Developers these days come up with so many great ideas all the time.

This is truly a golden age of gaming oh how I enjoy modern games.

Now consider that combat was the single most awesome thing in the game, a combat which was the main selling point of JA2, and wasn't topped by any game before or since - and they ditch it for a real-time shit with, apparently, some kind of QTE as seen in the quote above.

What. The. Fuck.

Sweet fucking Jesus, for once I agree with skyway 100%.

This is the most retarded, bat.shit.insane decision I've ever heard. The TB combat system in JA2 was - IS perfection. You cannot improve on perfection! It was the single defining feature of the game.

1. How can these dipshits think they can make it better? (in ANY way).
2. How the fuck do they think they can make it better by making it REAL FUCKING TIME!!!!! ???? (RTwP).

Just have a look at Arcania you dip shits, to see what "makeing a game acceptable in 2011" does to a franchise.

Enough talk - Codex needs to do something about this. Anyone have access to bomb making equipment - I'll bring the fertilizer.
