Mass domestic out-migration began in the 90s and never really stopped, and most in-migration was due to rich leftists moving from other leftist states(New York being the top source.) California is essentially devoid of a middle class who have long since fled the state — it has its rich rulers and its poor peasants. It's simultaneously the richest state and the state with the highest poverty rate, boasting one of the highest wealth inequality rates in the country.

There's a huge scare campaign against unionizing in the US regardless of what industry you're in. If it wasn't for that, people would know not to be afraid of bosses's reactions if enough workers banded together to unionize.

I find it weird to talk about the government as if it was disconnected from the private sector. Laws of this magnitude are pretty much always created
under the influence of lobbying. I now it for certain in Germany and the E.U. and I doubt that it is any different in the states. The financial sector is
especially active in this regard, so blaming the government for the crisis falls a bit short.
