Kenshi - open-ended sandbox RPG set in a desert world

Is it a bad idea to import a save 57 hours in to add Shidan's Tweaks and some other mods? What would I lose by doing so?

I keep starting this game up, staring at my base for an hour or so, and then thinking, eh what's the point? and shutting it off. I really need some kind of goal to work towards to keep me interested.
The point is exploration. Anything your squad needs in terms of crafting can easily be supplied by a buying a house or two in town, and even that isn't really necessary. Base-building is a separate exercise in itself. In my own game, I fully developed a base to experience that side of the game, but by the time I finished I was more than happy to return to exploring the remaining zones.

And then eventually taking over the world, mwahaha. I wish you could capture faction territory and have grand strategy war type gameplay to some extent. Control their shops, get tax revenue from their people and start wars, build alliances and more. Ah, the possibilities.

Why are people not talking about this masterpiece more? Play this game already, it's crazy good.

Do crafting material requirements, i.e. ten iron plates for a Long Cleaver, go down as the skill of the weaponsmith goes up? Otherwise I'm kind of weaponsmithing to break even. Going the hunting goats/animals route for leather and that is my next step, at least the materials will be free.

I am to busy playing the game, not enough time to talk about it .
If I had not a wife and a child, I probably would play it 24/7.
And maybe talk a little more about it here ;).

Fair enough PanteraNera . :)

Are there recipes for cooking in the game or is it experimental? I build a stove and would like to start cooking our own food.

you need to research new batch of recipes, but just as a heads-up, ration packs aren't available, you need mods to add it.

Ironmonk Well when I researched Advanced Cooking, it had Gohan, Meatwrap and something else. Does this mean I know this recipes now? How do I see them or make them with the oven?

Open the crafting menu, select your cooking oven, and click on recipes. Anyone who has the job of cooking with that oven will then create these products from their ingredients in the order assigned. Although it seems that if ingredients for one recipe are lacking, then the cook becomes stuck and won't cook anything rather than simply proceed to the next recipe, even if you've placed the cooking queue on repeat. :rpgcodex:

yeah... just to be fools-proof, in the Technology Screen, you have a tab for Crafting and every crafting station you have built will be listed there with its associated known recipes.

I know foodcubes are technically the most efficient food you can cook at home (without mods) but personally I prefer gohan for its simplicity.

gohan is 3x3, but you can do it inside a city (with hydroponics), no need for outposts.

food cubes and dustwitch (3x2) both need bread and that forces you to have an outpost to build a Grain Silo for Wheatstraw -> Flour (or you can use a mod that add one buildable inside/atop a house)

So, yeah I agree with you that its probably the best/easier top tier food to craft.

It should be noted that the map is the largest handcrafted map since Daggerfall, sizing up at an incredibly impressive 870km squared. And yes, you heard it right, it is handcrafted.
Daggerfall relied on procedural generation to create a map roughly the size of England, about 50,000 square miles. Though it seems UESP is now claiming that Daggerfall is substantially larger (over 80,000 square miles), even after excluding the Iliac Bay and other waterways.

Anyway, that's a good review for a game you've experienced only partially, but I suggest playing Kenshi to something resembling "completion" (since there is no true finale to the game), then revising and expanding your review, adding screenshots, and submitting it to the Codex for publication.

you go the cube route not because you want to but because of excess wheat from your grog and fuel productions. just add some fruit.

I keep starting this game up, staring at my base for an hour or so, and then thinking, eh what's the point? and shutting it off. I really need some kind of goal to work towards to keep me interested.

From reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Kenshi/comments/aczyv6/started_the_game_two_days_ago_and_havent_taken_a/

My team runs an illegal narcotics smuggling and supplying ring in all of the United Cities and Shek territories. It includes logistics, drug production, recruitment, and gang warfare. It started out as a group of like-minded friends looking for fame and fortune, then accidentally getting in over their heads in the swamp and even losing a comrade to escape, running away as you listen to the cries of them being eaten alive.

Scared of the swamp, but driven by greed of the recent profit of their first and only run, they tricked other travelers from bars into running drugs through the same horrors they once faced. The death rate for new runners is 55-65% but profits are steady as a successful run covers the lost drugs and recruit price for two failed runs. Countless recruits and former slaves were fed to the swamp in the early days, but the few survivors became increasingly skilled.

Many former runners are now in the elite bushido group "Keikatsu Tensai" who govern the ring. Anyone can attempt to join, but the initiation is you must willingly allow the holy nation to enslave you, escape, then kill your captor with their own Cross and bring it back. These solitary legends who govern the ring can be found roaming throughout the lands looking for new ventures or assassinating rivals.

Gosh I wish I had this kind of imagination :)

I just had the perfect run with a skeleton crew. Big spoilers. For real :)

My previous crew became too bloated and inefficient and I decided to pull the plug ... because when the hunting party becomes too crowded then you better shoot a few of them otherwise they will skill like stoned lemurs.

Anyway, I decided to do another run with the Rock Bottom start.

Middle of the dessert, one arm less, no weapon and no cats. This start is awesome :)

Once you hit Rock Bottom, things can only get better :)

No picture: found a town called Sho-Battai.

Brain fart: Try to attack a Skimmer without a weapon.
7367F2E0DDC86BF0C87D5CF33BCBBBC40418D6DE

There is only one viable strategy for my skeleton: bait Skimmers into the town guards, loot them and sell the teeth. Kinda of risky but better than mining. Especially with one arm.
5C669EA18CDB8C0BF1C5D4809FA99B39CD9CC873

Ok. I got some money and considering that I was a Skelly I decided to recruit other Skelly(s) like Burn (the Loremaster) - he has a tower in the Floodlands.
C248FB6EE6EC85ECA1AA6A815F220F7F72DC27FA

Catch 22: Reaching Floodlands means crossing Holy Nation territory which means that I have to run without looking back.

Literally saved by the Flotsam Ninjas :) DEX 48. These bitches are tough.

Burn's tower is pretty close to the Flotsam Ninja's town.

Got Burn and then I decide to go to the Black Desert City to get Sadneil.

Out of nowhere I had another close encounter, this time it was with some Manhunters. I don't understand why they attacked me but it was so close. They almost got Ace but Burn managed to save the day :)

This is the kind of stuff which cannot happen in any other game.

Between my place and Deadlands there is an area called The Iron Valleys which is populated with this kind of wanderers.

I had to do a long detour and I stumbled upon this place.

Well, this is the crazy part! :) I honestly did not know about them.

The workshop is populated with defective skeletons which will name you their Master! :)

They are called the Broken Ones and their stats are pretty good.

They follow you around and they KOS anything :)

No pictures: I went to the Black Desert City and these fuckers almost killed the entire town. Reload time.

Reached the town.

Recruited Sadneil and went for a nearby ruin.

And then it hit me: Let's try to take the Tower of Abuse! :)

Hint: If you sneak then the skeleton army sneaks too! At least they are less aggressive.
74A09C5B0C3C21F599BBFA8E2D36E36D755473E9

They killed Thralls and Beak Things for me! I like these subjects and that's why I paid attention to heal them after each battle. My Robotics went up the roof.

Even more Thralls :)

Managed to reach the Tower of Abuse :)

Hint: Coming from North is easier than from South cause the area under the Tower of Abuse is Thrall + Beak Things playground.

The fight was short. My actual crew pretty much just watched how Pond and the Screamer got rekt.

Freed Agnu which has incredible stats :)

I decided to go North to the UC territory in order to get the rewards for the two stooges :) Holy Nation territory is a big No-No with my crew.

No pictures: Went to the Scrapyard and sold my loot. Bought 4 high quality Fragment Axes.

Desert clusterfuck on the way to UC territory: Skimmers + some band + Broken Ones :)

Bounty time :)

By this point the Broken Ones were gone. They fought Skimmers, Bandits and Guards until death for their beloved Master!

Their sacrifice made me rich and got me the perfect Skelly crew :) Skimmer photobomb.

Two weeks ago I had no arm, no weapon and no cats but now I can beat two Skimmers with my noob crew:) Look at that Athletics and Strength XP.

Bought a Garru for carrying all that precious Skimmer loot :)

Got greedy and got rekt. Saved by the Garru :)

Went on Skimmer rampage! :)

Preparing for more adventures! Or maybe more training :)
16C8A144F5BAB8B2BA22F811404684AFD6BF20C0

Yeah, I did some stupid things but this was the best and most fun run I had until now. No crafting, no base building, no food, perfect crew (with all 3 unique Skelly companions).

I knew about Burn and Agnu but the Broken Ones were a genuine surprise :) Awesome game.

Now, I just need to train them and they will obliterate things in no time :)

If I wrote a review of Kenshi would there a possibility of it getting published? I know the Codex did a news post on launch day but I'd like to throw as much support as we can behind it.

Obviously the review would be quite positive but there are aspects of the game that merit criticism, so I think I could write something pretty balanced overall.

Do it. It doesn't have to be balanced, make it honest and funny.

Infinitron Do you agree?

toro Hey I penned a review too. :) It's got its own thread, don't mind if the site uses it or not. I have to play more though and eventually add screenshots.
