ARMA IV: REAL LIFE EDITIONHey Skyway, which game would you like to see made?
Obsidian has never made a turn-based RPG and even as Black Isle Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale I+II weren't turn-based. The only exception was Fallout 2.Clearly Evil Publishers were preventing Obsidian from doing turn-based RPG like they always wanted so when they got a chance they started doing RTwP + cooldown DAO clone
People have already told you several times that this wasn't the case and people knew what they were pledging for from the start (in fact this was the main reason why I didn't), I'm not sure how to make it any clearer to you than this (you can't even change any tier descriptions on KickStarter after they've been already posted, so it was there from Day 1): http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stoic/the-banner-sagaEvil EA fucked Stoic devs but they survived and turned Banner Saga into three games after Kickstarter for which backers must pay again and again. Also stats are for nerds.
This one seemed kind of shady and tablet-gamey for me from the beginning and I didn't pledge, but they didn't go back on their promises either: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1613260297/shadowrun-returns/posts/453037Shadowrun devs promised their backers noDRM version in an awesome RPG but now they have no choice but DRM version also no inventory and unlimited ammo! Good thing they ditched all those Evil Publishers - they would've forced them to dumb down the game
And I'm not sure why you think they would go through all that trouble if it wasn't indeed "publishers" (e.g. Microsoft) again and they didn't want to keep their promises. To reiterate, our Backers don’t have to choose a DRM-free version of the game or a Steam version of the game. You get both.
- Backers who want a DRM-free experience with Shadowrun Returns (on Windows, OSX, and Linux) are getting the game, editor and all, and will be able to transfer community-created story files and update executables manually. (It works just like a non-Steam version of Skyrim: you can install mods manually or via a 3rd-party tool such as Nexus.) The DRM-free version will not require any internet connection or any form of online authorization to play. In addition, Backers who like the convenience and reliability of Steam and who want automatic updates, easy-to-browse content, and a DLC store are getting them.
- We said that post-Berlin Campaign DLC would only be available on Steam but we never said why. We regret the omission. The reason is that our license to develop Shadowrun Returns actually requires that the game and its DLC be distributed under DRM. This didn’t come up earlier because the situation was complicated by the number of parties involved in the license and because the process was “ongoing”. Ultimately, we were able to successfully negotiate an exception with Microsoft for us to provide our Backers with a DRM-free version of the Kickstarter rewards (specifically the game and the Berlin Campaign) but that exception does not extend to non-reward DLC. So unfortunately, we cannot sell or give away DRM-free versions of the game or DLC on stores like GoG, and that’s why any future Shadowrun Returns DLC will only be available for purchase on Steam.
- We will be updating/bugfixing the DRM-free versions (Windows, OSX, and Linux) of Shadowrun Returns, maintaining them along with the Steam versions. These updates will require Backers to re-download the game from the Harebrained Account Website, since it will not include auto-patching functionality.
I don't really know anything much about the new Jagged Alliance, haven't visited the KickStarter page even once and haven't played any of the shitty recent 3D reincarnations but even though I think that most of the newest stuff is low quality trash even here I'm inclined to believe that you will end up talking out of your ass in the end.Jagged Alliance ending up firmly in hands of trashmakers for "soccer dads" who can play the game only for 30 minutes. They will have full control of raping it. Of course Evil shitComposter will get their cut too.
"We forgot to mention that our license requires us to use DRM when we promised a noDRM game but hey we are telling it to you now because we got your money anyway" ?We said that post-Berlin Campaign DLC would only be available on Steam but we never said why. We regret the omission. The reason is that our license to develop Shadowrun Returns actually requires that the game and its DLC be distributed under DRM.
Hey Skyway, which game would you like to see made?
If by "later" you mean "day one on Kickstarter" then you are absolutely right. Do you need to have that explained seven times?Banner Saga? They promised a single game first, only later it became 3 chapter bullshit.
Hey Skyway, which game would you like to see made?
KotoR 3?
Not only are you full of shit but apparently you can't even read, here I will quote the pertaining parts again for you, one of them was the very first sentence:DRM-free version... without patches, mod support and the ability to install any further DLC the moment any kind of DLC is out. So basically a castrated game if you don't want DRM. And if you will choose it you will have to buy Steam version again, a second time if you want more content.
But hey Kickstarter is for gullible people who can't see a forest behind trees like you just did.
The second right beneath it:To reiterate, our Backers don’t have to choose a DRM-free version of the game or a Steam version of the game. You get both.
The other one near the end:Backers who want a DRM-free experience with Shadowrun Returns (on Windows, OSX, and Linux) are getting the game, editor and all, and will be able to transfer community-created story files and update executables manually. (It works just like a non-Steam version of Skyrim: you can install mods manually or via a 3rd-party tool such as Nexus.)
We will be updating/bugfixing the DRM-free versions (Windows, OSX, and Linux) of Shadowrun Returns, maintaining them along with the Steam versions. These updates will require Backers to re-download the game from the Harebrained Account Website, since it will not include auto-patching functionality.
Or maybe they... you know, didn't know this would be such a problem? I ask you again why they would go through all this trouble to appease their backers if they didn't care? Although I agree that not saying they have to be Microsofts bitch was a rather large omission on their part..."We forgot to mention that our license requires us to use DRM when we promised a noDRM game but hey we are telling it to you now because we got your money anyway" ?
They bullshit no worse than some EA. Those poor talented developers who suffered so long under the pub boot!
No they didn't, the reward tiers which say "Chapter 1" were there from the beginning and you can't change those after a campaign starts, it was also the very reason why I didn't pledge for it.Banner Saga? They promised a single game first, only later it became 3 chapter bullshit.
Careful calling Skyway of too much of his bullshit there Dexter. He's not going to reply in the face of obvious defeat.
Skyway isn't trolling, he's just dumb.
IndieGoGo.com versus Kickstarter.com
There are many crowd funding sites including several new ones specializing in games. I know them all to just be a lot of hot air and expect them to go under in a year. But IndieGoGo has had some staying power and is an alternative to Kickstarter when you want to fund something outside the scope of kickstarter or if you cannot find someone to work with in the USA. While Kickstarter is certainly in need of many improvements, they are by far the king on this domain.
As I’ve preached in many of my blogs, the key to crowd funding is getting people to notice you and talk about you. Social Network plays a very key role in your success. But as much as half of your success could be attributed to the organic traffic on the site you’ve chosen to launch on.
recently ran an IndieGoGo campaign for the first time and I was very disappointed. I run Minion Games, a proven company with 7 Kickstarter campaigns under our belt and several more from my other company Kickin’ It Games. I like to think I know what I’m doing. I’d like to think that my customers would follow us wherever we go. I was wrong…
I ran two more or less identical campaigns on IndieGoGo and Kickstarter within a month of each other. I performed the same amount of marketing for both campaigns. I reached out to my network of customers and followers for both campaigns. I did very little different between both campaigns. What did we find? Well IndieGoGo campaign made about $2000 and Kickstarter made that in the first day and it’s now nearly $10,000 in 2 days.
The obvious take away here is that it’s extremely obvious that everyone’s first (and only) choice should be to use Kickstarter if at all possible.
TIP: It is also very important to accept payment in US Dollars as English Pounds scare people away.
On IndieGoGo which only got pledges of $2052 before it expired and failed. During this process I was able to make use of their interface and found out many of the differences between Kickstarter and IndieGoGo:
IndieGoGo uses YouTube videos and no splash image (Kickstarter has it’s own video hosting and allows you to define a nice splash image page that you can change to highlight things about your campaign)
Pledgers are charged when they back you and refunded if the campaign fails (Kickstarter only charges pledgers when the campaign ends successfully)
Can’t modify your pledge as a backer (Kickstarter allows pledgers to change their reward level and their total dollars pledged during the campaign. This is extremely valuable in Incentivising people to pledge more later in your campaign)
You cannot cancel your pledge once it’s made. The creator can only refund you after the end of the campaign. (Kickstarter you can cancel your pledge as long as it’s not within the last 48 hours and won’t make it below funding)
Allows for a underfunded campaign to still be completed (collected) at a higher rate of 9% (instead of 4%) (Kickstarter is an all or nothing deal with 5% fee)
http://www.jamesmathe.com/indie-no-go/No automatic or group mailings, thus no mailings to reward levels (Kickstarter allows you to send a mailing to everyone in a reward level)
Ah shit. Unavoidable nostalgia bomb.
Or maybe no-one want to use indiegogo.Haven't seen it mentioned here but Death To Spies 3 is on Indiegogo.
Doesn't look likely to even crack $ 1k of the $ 80k needed.
Guess nobody likes stealth potato action anymore.
