KCD is one of the greatest rpgs yet it has lesser posts than Vielguard. Codexers love Vielguard more than KCD series. It is a shame.

KKKodex runs on hate, not love.
Loving to hate is ones own opinion. But iam interested in KCD and do not give a damn about Veliguard.
So long as they stay true to the original and improve upon it with better combat and other such enhancements, then they got this.
It will be a success, despite the possibility of game journalists and publications going in a meltdown because of its lack of "diversity"...

Exactly, they don't need to vastly overdid the game, as the game formula is still not exhausted, like with ubisoft who basically churned same game for the zilionth time. They just need to innovate a little, expand adding few new mechanics, while leaving the rest intact. Give us good story, closure of henry story most importantly and thats all is needed. New setting might come with new franchise, imagine KCD engine but different historical period, maybe not even bohemia. I understand that historical games that are true to the history, are not palatable to modern audiences, so you can't expect american mutts to massively buy into this. Still the upfront costs of engine and mechanics are already paid, now we just need new historical experiences and settings, basically doing Assassins Creed like games but in vavra style with a touch of that true historical experience, instead of a modernized version on how these settings are perceived by modern day lens.

Yeaaaaah, we would. Not in AAA sector but then, KCD's AAA credentials were always in doubt.
I meant in AAA sphere (or at least KCD2's sphere of games that cost at least 50 million USD to make).

KCD doesn't have it's own, custom-built engine. It runs on CryEngine.

Yeah, but at the same time the engine has been so heavily modified and so much custom stuff had to be written for it, it might as well be. Kinda like "Creation Engine" is not really considered gamebryo anymore eventhough it was developed from it.

Nice next-gen graphics you have there, we've "advanced" to the point where you need raytracing just to achieve the same features that deferred shading offered before 2010.

Actually, this is fairly common tactic to save on performance in games. Certain less important light sources, in this case the guard's torch, can only cast a limited amount of dynamic shadows(or in some cases, none at all). Dynamic shadowing is usually very performance-heavy(this was the case in KCD1), so this is the trade-off for better fps.

They had to cut down on the amount of shadows so they wouldn't steal even more of AC Shadows thunder.

Hard to complain about something like that when the rest of the game looked so damn good.

Visuals is the one aspect of the original game that was almost a flawless victory on nearly every level. Only the animations could have been better and of course performance was ass in towns but everything else was just perfect. Textures looked great, sharp and clean, lighting was amazing, appropriate use of post-processing effects and of course the best vegetation ever seen in any game ever.

I personally wouldn't care if they didn't even bother changing the visuals at all and focused on improving everything else.

One thing I am a little disappointed about in terms of the visuals in KCD2 is the NPC animations while in conversations. The body animations seem to be entirely recycled from the first game. You play KCD1 for several hundred hours and you can immediately recognize those hand gesture animations.

Luckily the facial animations seem to have been improved(especially on Henry), the voice acting is still really good, and the character models got a major upgrade. So, ultimately, it's a minor gripe.
