Making cheat options built-in might also be detrimental on balancing of user modules down the line. You'll have to double-check with players reporting difficulties or breezing through intended-to-be-hard encounters if they're using any cheats options (certainly to some it won't feel like cheating or something worth mentioning if the cheats are bundled with settings like game speed, tokens/sprites switch or music volume).

Just include a text file explaining which toggles it was balanced for. :M

Il' ya peut être un peu de ça oui, une certaine irritation , on l'attends depuis longtemps ce jeu , le kickstarter on l'a tous payé un peu cher en plus je penses. Et au final un module pas équilibré, pas testé, et on va pas dire non plus que l'histoire péte trois pattes a un canard, mais ça on s'y attendait. Si la réponse aux critiques sur la difficulté c'est de mettre un editeur de stats de bourrer les persos d'autant de feats qu'on veut et mettre les stats au max, c'est quand même du gros gros foutage de gueule la, un truc comme ça, ca tue carrèment le jeu . J'attendais juste une aventure classique comme le premier , c'était pas le bout du monde . Du début jusqu'a la fin on a des CR délirants, sur 4 petites cartes, par rapport au niveau de l'équipe, monsieur ne veut pas y re toucher et nous offre un editeur de stats , du genre c'est nous qui sommes complètements con, la difficulté est parfaite. A un moment ca énerve .
Je rigolais au début, mais au fond t'as raison : c'est emmerdant prendre conscience qu'on a payé 20 dollars pour un jeu soit disant développé pendant trois ans qui montre des fautes si graves. Au moment j'ai laissé ce module à côté, j'espère qu'il reconsidérera sa position et mettra des propres "fixes" (je veux croire que ceux présentés à ce point seront temporaires) parce qu'il y a un bon jeu dessous tous ces problèmes mais à ce moment c'est difficile d'en profiter.

I get the feeling Pierre doesn't really understand high CR encounters. They are usually difficult, but even if they have a ton of immunities and defences, they'll usually have at least one purposeful weakness for players to exploit. Pierre seems to just like stacking massive all around defences on everything.

Sometimes you beat a tough encounter through sheer luck, but very often there is meant to be a particular weakness you can exploit.

Finding that weakness is often a big part of the fun in a difficult fight.

I don't think I will ever see the enemy that spawns in the spiders room, because I don't know how to survive the motherfucking giant spider.
Blanket the area where she spawns with a Cleric's Silence -- Antimagic Cloud isn't as effective due to her high Concentration. Prolong killing the final spider in the initial pack to delay her spawning in, buying your party time to prepare buffs and the Silence trap. This will prevent her from instantly deleting your party with Prismatic Void, but her level 8 Silent Metamagic spells still hurt, so put up appropriate Protection from Energy spells. Feeblemind also stops her spellcasting entirely. Hope you have Mass True Seeing for your melee since I never succeeded in dispelling all her Concealment and similar buffs due to the level difference.

That said, my favourite (but entirely unreliable) way of killing her is with the Prismatic Spray's death effect. My first kill against her was in such a manner, and it felt very fitting after the hours of getting wiped by her Prismatic Voids.
The demon in the gas chamber wasn't that bad, probably because he wasn't able to use efficiently his abilities. He wasted all of his AoE abilities hitting only a single character. He also basically was a single enemy, because the caster on the left can be cut off with a wall of stone and everyone else can be easily disabled with AoE stuns or blasted down.

I don't think I will ever see the enemy that spawns in the spiders room, because I don't know how to survive the motherfucking giant spider.

Beating the spider is a lot of luck, but what I did is I start moving my guys up to where she's going to spawn while whittling down the spiders. Cast widened silence where she's going to be (you do have widened silence, yes?) and try to position my fighters behind where she'll come in at. Then you've got to hit her with force cage or ectoplasmic cocoon to stop her from casting. Once you've got that you should be able to just beat her down unless she breaks out, but the odds of hitting her with cocoon are like 25%.
The spider is a motherfucking imbecile and literally doesn't know what to do if she gets grappled, you just have to find a summon big enough to grapple her and she panics. She has the Metamagic Still feat, but she just tries to break the grapple even if she has no chance of winning the opposed check. The only possible explanation (apart from her being a retarded piece of scum, sorry Tarantulos-Eduardo-Sanchez) is that she can't apply two metamagic feats on the same spell (she already was inside an area of Silence).

I managed to deal with her at level 15, with the key spells being Silence + Summon Marilith to disable the queen, Grease to fuck the statue in the ass and two hundred million blasts to take everyone down.

Jesus fucking Christ I hate her.

I think you need the staff of reversal you get from the crones (+1 diamond). There is a nice surprise inside. The scroll I don't know, could be it can be used on the demon the crones summon but I had already dealt with him.

Worse is i advised friends to back it too. All pen and paper players from my group , and girlfriend is amongst them, i already can picture the scene after she tries it.

Worse is i advised friends to back it too. All pen and paper players from my group

I'm kind of in a similar situation. I've advised them to wait till it appears on Steam, with the reasoning that it'll be fixed and more balanced by then.

I'm having my doubts though considering Pierre's idea of balancing things seems to be adding cheat options.

An overriding of user defaults just means they're going to have to configure it on an individual basis anyway. They might disagree with your idea of balance (just as many disagree with Pierre's).

They either made you immune to level drain or mind affecting spells. I think obsidian screwed up but you could argue that such items would exist in very high levels.

Chapter 4 is an insult to whomever endured the first part of the game. Nothing matters, every encounter is made up by two hundred enemies and your only chance is to reload until you win initiative with your entire party and get favorable damage/ST/SR rolls. I can't imagine someone designing this part and saying to himself "yeah, this rocks!".

They either made you immune to level drain or mind affecting spells. I think obsidian screwed up but you could argue that such items would exist in very high levels.

They are a thing, and there are quite a few in this module and while useful, most of the truly reload inducing spells are aoe and the AI is a bit too good in targeting weak saves.
The AI, as in the original is excellent and would make an awesome RPG with the right encounter design, a shame how this module turned out really.

See? I told you silence was key, if you can pin her somehow and have her silenced she can't do shit. She'd probably be pretty hot if she wasn't trying to instantly wipe your party, maybe Pierre should give her a redemption arc in the next module.

Nah bro, Chapter 4 was fucking easy compared to the horrors of Chapter 3. I was able to finish almost every battle in one go except the last one which is the most reloadingest fight of them all.

EDIT: And proper formation is vital for the last fight.

Silence is always the key, an effect like that without a saving throw is one of the strangest things in 3.x.

Anyway, she is a whore. And not of the good kind. She is a decadent prostitute that gives you HIV even if you use a condom.

I'm not saying it's "hard", it's just dumb. The gate storming took me a single retry, but it's still dumb. You keep spamming AoE spells without a single thought and that's it. Maybe I am the dumb one, but I can't see any other functional strategy.

The only "positive" aspect is that, contrary to what everyone said, the Druid is still VERY useful even at high levels. I would say it's even more useful than at the beginning of the module. Greater Ice Storm deals an enormous quantity of damage in a giant area without save, Sirocco and Earthquake deal relevant damage AND send everyone prone (particularly useful because it blocks enemies' Accelerated Spell and Power). These three spells alone make the Druid a worthy pick.
