Probably for their social features like chat, cosmetics and ladder. I'm pretty sure they said they want to have a full offline mode by release.

By social features like chat, cosmetics and ladder, what you actually mean is data. If it was just social features, cosmetics and a ladder, they don't need an account made for that. Steam is enough. I doubt a company that is that uppity will make an offline mode that doesn't include making an account.

Since they're selling supporter packs à la PoE I assume an account is pretty much needed, especially for platform parity.

It's what they promised on their kickstarter page. Whether or not they keep their word or you'll still have to create an account to play offline is a different story.

Everyone needs to never give money to companies who try this sort of thing. Nip it in the bud.

So other multi platform companies/games need to do that to in your opinion? What are some games you enjoy that follow this make believe ruleset?
I don't give a shit. Especially if they're going to give me an offline mode so I can play the game once their servers are dead.
I wasn't arguing with you whether it's a good or bad addition, I was just giving you the (possible) reasons why the game requires an account.

As for your first question, there are some situations where I wanted to change platforms but the devs usually don't offer any way to copy any DLCs/Expansions. Sometimes even unlocks are platform locked for multiplayer games. Are accounts for every single game the perfect solution to this? No.
I know GOG used to do something similar for specific games but I think that was mostly desperation to grow their platform.

The item faction system seems nice but the devil is always in the details of how it's implemented. SSF+increased drop rates with trade between party members for an hour and the ability to focus equipment types (The Division 2 did this for certain activities and it was great) or full auction house trade is interesting. We'll see how it works out but conceptually I like it.

Launch had some queue issues but all seems to be resolved now and I've been in a multiplayer session for three hours without any problems. 0.9 changes are all good from what I can tell and several D2/Path of Exile friends that are playing the game for the first time today have nothing but good things to say about the game.

I hope they can keep the momentum going now that multiplayer is out of the way.

I had :d1p: this shitty game back in 2019 and have been playing a Bone Golem Necro to lvl 70 since 0.9 launch.

The game is slowly coming together. Fairly easy game and very laggy and buggy, especially shader issues. Gameplay wise the speed-ramp is slower than PoE but in Monolith there is hardly a difference to map clearing.

Gameplay wise it feels kinda ok for now.

I like the guildward1'esque skill system but PoE is superior in every regard.

I am at lvl 10, and this has the worst itemization I've ever saw in H&S. There's just too little item variety and way too many drops from mobs.

How loot filter is going to help me with the same leather boots dropping from every kind of enemies? I've played hundreds of hours of D2 with no loot filer at all, and the itemization and loot has been always interesting from lvl 1 up to very end game.

Loot filter is just an excuse to cover incompetence or lack of resources to create interesting items.

How optimized is this game compared to PoE? PoE works OK on my old PC with medium details, I wonder if this would work well as well.
Also do they have desynch problems? Also is this game also online only?

I can't speak for recent versions about optimization. Earlier, there were some issues with that. Still, it doesn't go as crazy with late-game skill fireworks and mob/effect density as PoE does, so you never get those annoying spikes.

I never had the kind of extreme, reoccuring desync problems that were notorious in "early" PoE.
But desync can happen, especially if your latency is problematic (depending on your details and the server you are on).

For now, it's online-only (I think? as I said, I won't bother to replay before 1.0 release). The devs announced that a fully-offline mode will be made available at release, but who knows. That kind of stuff might be vetoed by some management flunky who thinks it hurts their profits. Wouldn't be the first time that happens.

I didn't get very far into Monolith and my build was something I threw together but I didn't really get to the levels that I usually do in PoE. Build I played in Sanctum was Hexblast Miner and I was melting everything including bosses. For normal monsters I was killing them before I could even see them on-screen.

Same as above, can't really speak about the latest patch which apparently improved optimization but it worked alright for me except for certain zones or when there were way too many enemies on screen which didn't happen that often.

That's what I meant. Loot filters are the solution to the problem of shitty itemization.

Massive fake news from my perspective unfortunately.

We’ve been trying to play this over the span of the last three days and it hasn’t just been difficult, it’s been impossible. So many quest errors, frequent stuttering, needs to restarts and lock-ups we haven’t been able to play.

In my experience, the game so far is multiplayer in name only :(

Only multiplayer or singleplayer as well?
