Oops, I forgot to write down the riddle #12. Edited it in now.

Pretty sure that 6 is 'Hum' unless this riddle is supposed to be a complete brain twister. The others I'm not really sure.
Kz3r0 said:
6. sing out, but keep your mouth closed // Hum?

Yup, 6 is definitely HUM, thanks. :P

Pussycat669 said:
2 could be 'Letter' since you find a letter within it's own word but I suspect it's more of a a jar/ ajar kind of thing. 3 could be 'Oven'. 7 sounds like a reference to some kind of game but I wouldn't know which one. 'Ash' or 'Fry' would fit to 9 although it doesn't make any sense in context. 10 might be something about measurement units, dunno.

9: ASH is a p. good guess, I like!
Not sure about the rest. In 10, "walking" and "twelve inches" probably gives you FOOT, but it's only a part of the word.

Kz3r0 said:
11. gives up a short recess to get a word in // re nouncing?

Brilliant. "recess" + "get a word in" = "recess" + "noun" = RENOUNCESS = RENOUNCES, I guess.

Kz3r0 said:
2. within or inside itself // inward?

Hmmm, dunno.

On second thought on 7, the dead lie in a graveyard. Yard already fits and the avenger needs to cut two letters from grave to get the answer, probably.
engrave?

Wonderful! "carve", "grave" ~ ENGRAVE. Not sure what "avenger" has to do with that though. :?

EDIT. Got it. AVENGER is an anagram for ENGRAVE. :P

How about UNDER-FOOT?

Genius. Thanks, pmp10!

12: ICICLED?

If that's the case, then 2 appears to be INSIDE.

Cool!
Thanks, everyone. Just two more words to go. Truth be told, I didn't think the progress would be so quick. :P Here's how everything fits together -- perfectly:

3 is _E_N

5 is _T_E_

I think I got you confused by my totally confusing placement of numbers in the pic. Actually, the words go top to bottom, so that 3 is N_E_ and 5 is _E_T_. Sorry for the confusion.

So yeah, the two riddles left are:
3. sounds like bread is being made, want some? // 4 letters // N_E_
5. the infinite ethereal plane contains many small bones // 5 letters // _E_T_

That is, assuming we didn't get any of the words wrong. :P

The third hint seems kind of odd to me since I wouldn't expect that making bread would make any distinct sound but rather smell, so it might be a hint that the word we're looking for sounds like the word 'Baking' but that would be too long and the e doesn't fit in.

EDIT: Lean might fit although the reason escapes me right now.

Here, obviously
I have been reading your LPs for a while and decided to make an account to show my support and help you a little, if I can! :)

I am pretty sure that #3 is "Need"

The works sounds like a word used in making bread: "Knead," and "Need" and "Want" have always been considered opposites. It might also be a hint at needing food (bread?) in this game.

Hope that helps!

Right, "knead" = "bread is being made"! Brilliant. Thanks for your support, Kashmir Slippers! :P
And thanks, Gondolin! So #3 is NEED, settled.

#5 remains though.

5. the infinite ethereal plane contains many small bones // 5 letters // _E_T_

Many small bones leads me to FEET but there is a letter missing, and i have no idea what it has to do with the ethereal plane.

FEETS ? (foot is a distance unit, but feet is already the plural...).

FEETS? Looks like we're stuck, eh? Finally.

"Many small bones", "ethereal plane"... Well, it's not like I'm in a hurry. I'll try thinking about this final riddle in the next few days, but boy, it makes no sense.

A reference to music and its notation perhaps?
Definition of cento
n. - A literary or a musical composition formed by selections from different authors disposed in a new order.
Or maybe Death?

I really doubt it's cento. Death is a nice option though. I guess I'll try it out. Still, I fail to see what "many small bones", or anything else in the riddle, have to do with death. :?

By the way 2 is Intime, not inside, that is already in the definition.
Can also be Entire

That's why I think is a reference to notes on a music sheet.

Nah, I'm pretty sure INSIDE is the correct answer. The cake riddle is a lie. "Inside itself" = inside = "within". :P That's exactly the catch.

My non-English showed here, I would never have thought of word assonance, well I am a literary guy after all.

You're welcome. The answer to this one doesn't make much sense either. Yes, I got frustrated and googled the riddle.

Hey! I'm not ready to give up just yet. So I'm totally NOT looking under Gondolin's spoiler tag, and neither should those of you who want us to solve the riddle on our own. :P

So yeah, I can now officially confirm that we've got all the other words apart from #5 correctly. Yay! Teamwork FTW!

Since we're now on a new page, I'll repeat the riddle #5 here:

5. the infinite ethereal plane contains many small bones // 5 letters // _E_T_

I've tried CENTO and DEATH, but to no avail. :/ I'll keep thinking though.

That does explain the bones part but I'm at a loss where the ethereal plane comes in. Also why should 'Ash' work for a tree before and after the fire? Unless maybe you think of a bonfire where in front of the fire and at the back of the fire would be ashes while the tree is still burning in the middle, so to speak.

Because ash is also a kind of tree. I actually thought you knew that when you suggested ASH as an answer...

Ash tree = "a tree with silver-gray bark and compound leaves. The ash is widely distributed throughout north temperate regions where it can form forests. Genus Fraxinus, family Oleaceae: many species, including the North American white ash (F. americana) and the European ash (F. excelsior)". :P
