SS are perfect, yes. Very interesting way to start a game, though!

AFAIK, Agility + Dexterity affect your number of APs but your weight (STR-encumberance) affects it adversely. Further, as you pointed out, fighting with backpacks on is harmful for accuracy. Though marching with more than 100% weight is a good way to build up health, which, again AFAIK has no other effect but your lifebar.

From the 1.13 forums (note that this refers to the 25 AP system, scale the final result by 4 for the 100 AP system):
AP = 5+ (((10 * Level + 3 * Agility + 2 * LifeMax + 2 * Dex) + 20) / 40)

So Agility is definitely worthwhile since its the largest stat AP bonus, and also gives you evasion. Life is also good because its life, and when hurt the lower the percentage of damage the less it effects you. Dex is rather marginal since it doesn't provide many other benefits other then negating an enemy's dodge and adding to a few non-combat skills we don't care about. Strength of course is useful since the lower your encumberance the less of these AP's you lose.

Also, bumping to next page. Write up is almost done, next fight is a doozy. Quite long, lots of carnage.

Hmm, does DEX then affect your movement speed? Different mercs have different values for running. Walking and crawling are always the same but some mercs are faster runners than others. If thats AGI too then I've wasted bazillion IMP-points into DEX along the years :(

Should've read the formulas

I have no idea about movement speed. It sounds like it would fall under Agility, but who knows.

Dex is still useful to have at least a bit of. The dodge formula works like this:

Dodge rate = enemy level x 2 + enemy agility / 5 - your level x 2 - your dexterity x 5

So you want to have as much dex as an evenly leveled enemy has agility. Otherwise your enemy ends up with a good 5% bonus, and this can get even worse facing higher levels.

Here we are at the southwest corner of Chitzena. My plan for this area is very simple. We occupy both of the house you see in the picture. We will have Andhaira inanely fire bullets randomly to lure enemies in between them. Enemies get cut down by a hail of bullets from the criss-cross of firing lanes.

Andhaira scouts around and we silently slip into the first house. The second is a bit more difficult to infiltrate, as the front side faces the center of the map and it is completely lit, letting enemies see it from a great distance. We have to make absolutely sure the coast is clear before we try to get in, so Andhaira spends a lot of time making sure no patrols are coming.

I did see a patrol at this position, but I was able to confirm that their sight range never came near the lit house. Forgot to take the screenshot, though.

Going around to check the other side, we spot a soldier.

Waiting until his back is turned, we strike. See those accuracies root has on her shot? 85 Marksmanship + Expert Sniper + Psycho will do that. Heaven help them when we get a gun that doesn't suck ass.

Of course, the enemy is taken down in the first volley.

We quickly run back in case any enemies are responding.

However, there is a bit of a surprise in store. Apparently some enemies are arriving from the western sector. This can happen if you make too much noise near the sector borders, however, there shouldn't be any soldiers on that side at all. We entered Chitzena from that side, so there must have been some mobile group hot on our tracks that arrived in the last sector just as we left to attack Chitzena.

Thankfully, as they arrive we have a full round to take them down. Root and Orgasm both take a kill.

Another is spotted in the corner we arrived from, I believe Orgasm took this kill.

Pariah spots an enemy traveling what will become the path of death. He somehow manages to score two headshots yet only deals 1 damage each. What the fuck, man?

We hear a lot of enemy movement, so as soon as Pariah finishes off the enemy in his next round he goes prone. This is the beauty of these windows. As long as he ducks down at the end of the turn the enemy will pretty much never find him unless they are right up against the window, in which case Cenobyte will cover him. They won't even be looking at his direction, so he won't be interrupted or anything. A number of enemies move into range in the next turn, and Pariah gains a level for his efforts.

But apparently they all ran away. Thats fine, we want to set up in the other house before we start making too much of a ruckus

Root finds a new gun. This one is pretty decent. It has a tad less range, but in return we can fire it much faster (3 AP to ready vs 5, 22 AP to fire vs 28). It is also a bit more accurate. Most importantly though, its ammo has an armor modifier of .75. That means it pierces through and ignores 25% of the enemy's armor, which will do wonders for damage.

Andhaira scouts, sees enemy but retreats.

We prepare to move into the house with Orgasm and Root.

Both make it in safely. Root covers the front while Orgasm covers the center.

Andhaira prepares to start luring, but whats this?

Lovely, an M4 in excellent condition. Andhaira appropriates it.

Root sees an approaching enemy in the brightly lit front of the house.

One shot kill. This is probably a good time to mention that bullet damage is partially affected by your accuracy. This simulates the idea that a more accurate bullet will hit a more vital organ. If an accuracy 50 bullet would have hit the target, and your shooter shoots with accuracy 90, they deal 40% more damage. So...yeah, high accuracy messes shit up. Root is a ranged demon.

Andhaira finds a target and tries to shoot. Fucking jammed gun. At least it happened during a moment with no action.

Orgasm makes the shocking discovery that an enemy has flanked the house.

Fortunately, she ends the enemy quickly before he can react. Unfortunately, this probably means that more reinforcements have arrived from the west. This house is a pretty bad position to be in right now.

Another one from the other window. Unfortunately, this time we aren't quick enough. He nails Root before falling to a hail of gunfire from both Orgasm and Root. Root gains a level from being shot

When I see this many enemies coming, I decide to bunker down and wait. Hopefully they will leave. We are in a really bad position, 2 soldiers can't hold that house when its surrounded on all sides.

Andhaira spots another enemy from the west.

Thankfully, Anhaira takes him down before he is even seen.

As you can see, the top house is in a completely defensive position. If another enemy gets the drop on our fighters from the west, we will almost certainly lose a soldier if they carry an automatic weapon.

One enemy is silly and runs after Anhaira, getting interrupted by Cenobyte who is 2 squares away.

The outcome will come as no surprise to anyone. Cenobyte takes him down in one shot from each of his pistols. He's an absolute beast against any enemy within around 8 tiles. I can't say that the autoweapons skill is working out all that well for him, but ambidexterity sure is. That kill took half the AP a burst weapon would have used.

Orgasm receives suppressing fire in her direction, causing her to drop prone. Suppressive fire means that at least one enemy can see her, and that allows another enemy out of sight range to fire blindly in her direction. Low hit chance, but it causes the characters to lose AP and fire less accurately. It also reduces morale, which causes you to be even less accurate when it gets low enough.

Root interrupts another enemy coming from the west.

Even with a fairly large injury, she makes the kill. A testament to her accuracy. You will notice that her morale is almost maxed, which adds about +5% accuracy. High morale isn't terribly important, but we are taking every bit we can get. As to why her morale is maxed when she is injured and surrounded by enemies, I have no idea. Maybe she just really, really loves that new gun.

Andhair steps around the corner and slightly nicks an enemy. Its not much but at this point we are just trying to draw away the enemy from the north house. Orgasm's defense of the eastern window is very tenuous since she is under suppressive fire, odds are she will fail any interrupts and take a burst to the face from point blank range.

Pariah spots an enemy running to Orgasm's window and gets a few shots off, enough to stop the advance.

Pariah tries to take shoot him down in the next turn, but no luck. But since he's been hit multiple times, he should be fairly impotent.

At this point I figure a demonstration of HAM suppression is in order. Orgasm, having full APs from not being suppressed herself the last few turns, fires a barrage of rounds at the large group. 3 of them are hit and 2 collapse, while the rest hit the dirt.

Pariah interrupts and tries to take down his target, but it STILL remains standing after another 3 shots. PoS weapons I tell you.

Root interrupts another enemy trying to sneak up. She doesn't get the kill, but the headshot leaves him a sitting duck unable to fire back.

Andhaira also gets an interrupt, and a kill from it.

This takes a bit of explaining. A few turns ago an enemy attacked from the east of the south building, and Eve had an interrupt. She fired her shotgun and did something like 20 fucking damage for a headshot at point blank range, in exchange for half her AP. Apparently this shotgun is useless so she had to pull out her pistol and finish the enemy off. Seeing that she couldn't hold this side if something really rushed her, I sent Cenobyte over to assist. All of this I have no screenshots for

Cenobyte handles this interrupt like he handled all the others. He didn't even need the second shot, but he fired it out of spite.

Pariah finally finishes up the enemy he has been working on for a few turns now.

Root does likewise with the enemy she interrupted last round.

Andhaira lays down his own suppressing fire.

Unfortunately, another one that is not suppressed rounds the corner and puts a bullet in his shoulder.

Andhaira: king of (bullet) spam is not stopped by any mere flesh wound. More bullets are poured in the enemy's general direction. From this point on the enemy doesn't even have a chance to return fire.

Orgasm sees Andhaira's Dakka and raises him more Dakka.

Cenobyte was moved up to the window and scores a kill.

Pariah sees an enemy getting to close and throws him back a few feet with a burst from his gun. Note: JA2 is not completely realistic.

Orgasm fires another salvo then goes prone and reloads.

More Dakka from Andhaira.

From here on its just cleanup. All of these enemies are wounded and suppressed.

Cenobyte levels.

Combat is over, we start to scrounge for supplies and heal up Andhaira. Check out the number of bodies, and keep in mind that there are only 20 soldiers per sector, the rest were reinforcements.

We start to scout for the last enemy units, and find one.

Unfortunately during the enemy turn I notice that its still VERY FUCKING LONG. They must still have reinforcements pouring in.

We manage to take down the enemy, but Andhaira takes another small wound.

Considering the size of the enemy forces left, and the fact that we are hurting, I make the tactical decision to run like hell.

We check the sector inventory list. You can't directly take the stuff from this menu during battle, but it tells you everything that's there. Those commandos and the SL8 look nice, so we nab them before we leave.

Now we heal up, repair our newly found weapons and prepare to go in during another night.

Well, 1.13 is definitely much more difficult than plain JA 2. Good work so far, go on!

excellent lp mate, keep it up.

also, i hate fucking commandos. they were innacurate as hell in the original JA2. are they any better in this?

Its true that they are quite a bit less accurate then our standard issue MP5's. However, with the laser sight anything nearby is pretty much an auto hit, and anything far away was outside of the MP5's crappy range and unhittable anyway, so there is only a small middle ground in between the two where our current weapon isn't accurate enough. Most importantly, the commando will ensure we actually do damage, with a 4 higher damage rating and armor piercing bullets. We don't want another encounter with an enemy that takes 7 shots to the head before dieing like Pariah did last night.

Didya nab the NVGs as well? Might be useful.

Of course.
