Arcane
I promise there are no songs being sung in this update.
The entrance room seems to contain evidence of a campfire. Seems like there are more than just spiders here.
We keep going - using our usual rule of taking right hand turns when presented with choices and eventually come upon another room with Spiders and... a Black Slayer?
Gorath is so large that he can't help but crease noise. But I don't know how anyone could sneak up on anyone else when underground - the torch light gives you away.
James hits for 38.
Owyn's swing is parried.
Gorath hits the black slayer for... 21? I forgot that they're resistant to melee damage.
James misses the spider.
Owyn lands a swing this time. 7 damage.
Gorath's swing failes to land.
James finishes a spider with a hit for 39.
Black slayer hits Owyn for 12.
Owyn decides to activate the staff. But apparently he can't - guess I need to have distance.
James gets hit for 7.
Gorath lands a swing. 25 damage.
James misses.
Owyn hits for 8.
Gorath's thrust for 23 is enough to put the slayer down.
James hits the last spider for some unknown amount of damage.
So does Owyn.
Gorath finishes the creature.
While the Elven Armor is a bit better than Standard Kingdom - its certainly not enough to account for our fighters doing a third of their normal damage. We might need to enhance weapons when fighting Black Slayers from now on.
There is a chest in the room.
The letters are:
CCASE
OIEON
TRBAL
PHCLS
We find another chest in an alcove not too far ahead.
The letters are:
BDREY
SLOSL
HOSLT
AHEIS
Answers and loot:
As we proceed we get to a room full of Nighthawks and a Black Slayer. I enhance Gorath's and James's swords with that Priest Cloth stuff.
Our stealth check fails once again.
James misses and Gorath gets shot for 4.
Black Slayer survives direct hit from the Bane spell - 75 damage.
Gorath's thrust does 51 damage and kills the slayer. Looks like magical enhancement is very effective on these guys.
James puts a Nighthawk down with a thrust through block - 77 damage.
Owyn gets shot for 4.
Gorath puts down another Nighthawk. Think the damage was 98.
Owyn rests up. Then Gorath finishes the last Nighthawk with a swing for 123. But the damage came up as healing and a new Black Slayer rises from the ground. If we weren't wiping the floor with them due to enhanced weapons and this was the first time I've seen this - I'd probably be quite scared.
James hits it for 36.
Gorath finishes it with a swing for 62.
As a result of this fight, Gorath became even more of a powerhouse.
Despite the food poison in his pack - the rations were not poisoned.
And neither were these.
Ohoh - think we got lucky as there were two archers and only one of them managed to get some hits in.
We're pretty good on gems once again.
The chest in this room turns out to be trapped.
I don't know what we'd do without James. Probably ignore trapped chests.
Oh wow. First time we've seen that crossbow somewhere other than a merchant's stall.
Since its been two chapters since we saw one of these in that fletcher's shop in La Mut, here's its description once again.
Magnificent. Too bad Crossbows don't take strength into account and so deal sub-par damage. Gorath gets this one.
Here's an update on our whereabouts. This place is quite large.
The only other exit out of this room ends in a dead end. We are force to retreat to the branch to the West of this room and go North.
Which leads us to a narrow room with some spiders ahead.
I kinda wonder if the game is giving us a giant stealth penalty due to a lit torch.
Gorath hits for 53.
James finishes that spider with a hit for 41.
Gorath hits another one for 51.
James gets hit for 6.
Hit counter-attack hits for 36.
Owyn tries to join the party but misses.
Gorath helps them out and finishes that spider.
James misses the last one.
Owyn finishes the fight with a hit for 13.
When we get to about here...
There's a giant pit ahead.
Fortunately we're quite good on ropes.
Up ahead we see a door.
Which is locked. What are the Night Hawks doing here? Seems like this might be their main base. And what is this place? Perhaps this is the famed Cavall's Run?
The lock was so easy - Gorath managed to get it. It even increased his skill from 36% to 37%.
There's another two way fork in the hallway beyond.
Both led to a door - only one of which appeared locked. Gorath got this one as well.
There are some chests here and a Nighthawk... is he alone???
But it seems we can't fight him.
So... the guy tried to fool us into thinking we just wiped out the Nighthawks? I mean we would have sliced and diced him - but still seems strange to just off yourself to try to sell that story.
I guess we shall see when we meet him.
Nice sword, but yeah - does not strike me as the equipment of a key character.
Both chests in this room are unlocked.
But neither has anything good.
There's a door in a hallway leading out. It's locked.
Looks like James was right. We'll likely need to find the leader of the Nighthawks to get past this door. Perhaps it will have the answers we seek.
The other room just has two chests. Both are puzzle locks. The letters for this one are:
FOBPLY
PLDSHE
BRINOS
EUABIT
And this one:
MBTN
RVSE
OOES
PEPT
Answers and loot:
Here is our current location.
It seems like we have a suspect. So should we:
A. Clear out this place. Could be that we might learn more information about what's happening here.
B. We found what we were looking for. Beeline for the suspect immediately.

This would not be anywhere to the top guess, but something about flipping the letters made it obvious.
Pretty good ruby there.
This one seemed easy - there was like two possibilities.
Good loot for such an easy puzzle.

I guess I'm spoiled by the bubbles my kids get when they take their baths - they seem quite easy to pick up.
Even more gems.
Quite easy.
Oh and what's this?
Well well well... Didn't Ugyne tell us that she gave this very book to Navon de Sandau? How would it have gotten into a layer full of Nighthawks without him being one? We have not heard of them ever stealing random books.
Sounds like there's some magical cursed sword which can bee remade if you find both pieces.
