    Chapter List

    Part 1: Hostile Negotiations

    Part 2: Getting Mah Money

    Part 3:The Akadama's Long Decline

Part 4:Backdoor Is Not Always Best

Part 5:Traitors and Ninjas and the Government! Oh My!

Part 6:Someone Gets Assassinated and Genma has an Orgasm

In the waning years of the Last Age of the Sword, a samurai born on a certain day to uncertain parents wandered alone, without explanation into an outpost known as the Rokkotsu Pass, ignorant of the role he was to play in that area's history.

    No, scratch that. My mistake.

Welcome to my LP of Way of the Samurai 1. It's been a good number of years since I last played this, so I'll be going into it halfway blind. I honestly can't remember all the twists it takes to get to the the better endings.

The intro, in all its low-res Youtube glory. Enjoy.

This being the first run, the rattiest character combination seems the best choice. Looks like someone straight from the samurai gutter.

His clothes just scream 'come get me', probably not the best idea where he's going.

As for the sword...it's not like we have much choice.

We begin our story with a peaceful bridge, on the outskirts of an outpost that...well...

Here comes our leading man now.

Fresh from begging for scraps and digging through the bins behind the last roadside inn, presumably.

He's here for all of a second, and already something interesting is happening.

Kidnapping in progress, or kinky sexual role-play? You decide.

Now he could ask what's going on, jump straight to conclusions and
stop whatever this is, or see if there's room for one more.

This is a hard luck era for samurai, and these are obviously a group of go-getters who know what they want. How 'bout it fellas?

    That came out wrong.

I think we may have offended him.

    Yup.

"Oh you bastard. Do you know what I had to do to get that?"

:smug: Even I have to admire that.

"Seriously guys, you're not going to leave me here, right?"

    "Guys?"

    "Well fuck."

Wiggle, you sword wielding hobo, wiggle like you're a middle aged soccer mom playing Wii Fit to burn off that Big Mac fattening her butt cheeks!

    "ASSHOOOOLES!"

"Oh you know, inspecting the line for faults in the rivets and-"

    "Dick."

Y'know, I forgot what most of the characters in this game were like. It must have been intentional because otherwise I would have kept coming back to kill them.

Good samurai, but horrible at grammar.

I always had the theory that Kitcho killed Squall and stole his jacket. Also that he was a closet queen. I mean, look at him.

    :/ Yeah.

    Introductions are important, but first..

    "Weaboo."

    "What?"

    "Nothing."

Let's find out what the situation is, shall we?

    !!!

He takes this to mean 'could you repeat yourself', while I actually meant 'WTF'. Yeah, I've been recruited into this.

    "Mah money."

I'm sure the way Kitcho dresses had nothing to do with it. Or maybe Kitcho's like this because of childhood trauma. Hm.

"Yeah, I don't think about it enough each day. Thanks for that."

"I kinda wish you'd left me on the tracks?"

"Whee, hard candy here we come."

"I should have just kept on walking at the bridge."

Wow, if this game has true C&C, I'll have to get this one. I'll wait for another update before deciding, though.

Events would have turned out completely different had I not interfered on the bridge and instead watched things play out. We would have met someone else (who is even more out of place than Chelsea), saw a quick little fight, and had a chance to befriend the townsfolk.

Or we could have moved on our own to save the girl, and built some in-roads there. Or just walked by and ignored it all. Just being somewhere at a certain time can change events in the game. Which is why it's a pain in the ass if you're going for an elaborate ending. Anyway, in subsequent playthroughs I'll demonstrate the various ways the beginning could have played out.

WTF this is one of the cheesiest games I've seen.

Fishnets, pimp clothes, blond english sluts + samurai era ?

Oh well, lulz are guaranteed I guess. And the big load of C&C will make things interesting.

Lots of  for this LP, while a bit disappointed we didn't get to see the afro samurai.

Having played this quite a few times, can't wait to see how this playthrough goes.

This game is really good LP material, even though it kind of sucks when you play it. The dialogue system is kind of different, as well (it's sort of semi real time, maybe the LPer can explain).

    There definitely is C&C though.

The second one, as far as I know, is better in that aspect (you even have multiple factions to ally yourself with). But yeah even the first does have C&C.

The second game has more choices, easier to do the endings and people are not quite out of place as the first game from what I remember(actually I can't remember anyone out of place). But shit, the voice acting is fucking shit, shit, SHIT and no way to turn it off without turning off the whole sound.

    :rpgcodex:

It would be 100x more authentic than this.

I came in here because I confused the title with Way of the Samurai, and am happily surprised. Played this game ages ago, loved it. Will be watching this LP!

I did note in the other thread that this wouldn't be rapidly updated. I'm going to be visiting family for a couple days, and won't be back till Monday. The next update will be pretty damn big though, including a stirring speech from a Vice-Captain, my first strike in the Akadama/Kurou war ( I fuck some people up), and I have a chance to get revenge on that bald money-stealing bastard.

    Till then.

    That game was pretty good!

There was a PS2 game called Sword of the Samurai as well. The fights worked sort of like a Kendo simulator, and the game itself kind of worked as some sort of wandering samurai sim. It was pretty cool, up to a point. Duels were decent, "mission" sucked, and didn't do shit (it could have been done more RPGish, with some sort of plot within the missions, at least), and when you got to a certain point all you could do was to keep grinding until you had mastered all the secret techniques and killed all the samurai masters to get the best ending. I actually bought Way of the Samurai and (PS2) Sword of the Samurai at the same time, at some bargain bin.

About this game, though: when it comes to C&C... it sort of half-delivers. You can switch clans, backstab, etc, and get tons of endings (or so I've heard), but on the other hand you can jump in between the warring clans ridiculously easy (if you are a known member of clan 1, you can just stroll over to clan 2 and say "hey I wanna join you guys now", and they'll let you).
