On the bright side the project is likely to be funded. At the time of this post, only $9,500 was/were needed to successfully fund the gaem. I'm also intrigued by the lack of support for Dead State. What really baffles me is that other projects, like Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun, even without nothing to show, both recieved a great deal of attention and money from the Codex, while DS, althought vaporware, at least has some work done.

Also: The T-Rex girl alone should be the greatest incentive to raise this money.

I guess it was Names. Fargo, Avellone and Weissman are living saints as far as many 'dexers are concerned.
I think it also helps that those are being made by actual companies with real office space in physical buildings. DoubleBear is Brian in his home office and a few people on the internet.

Enh, I'd rather jewgold from kickstarter was spent on game assets than office space though. We're kinda derailing the thread too much though. Let's all agree to disagree, hug, forgive, then go fling poop at rpgwatch together.

I'm in no way demonizing or pointing fingers at you or other people not willing to donate, I'm not hiver. That's your choice and is completely understandable. I'm just intrigued by the low response to this thingie.

I see Dicksmoker is wanting to take another man's woman again.

ohohohoh

Reminds me I have to delete that thread again.

Another factor in the lack of fundraising though might be AoD itself as well. A lot of people thought that would be Fallout set in the Roman Empire and seeing it become a choose your own text adventure disheartened a lot of people. I guess they want to be sure what it is they're actually putting their cash into,

Well, that was more or less my reaction to the demo of AoD. Dreams smashed, good for what it is, so forth and for sooth.

Maybe it'll be different this time!

As for this, didn't the devs openly state that they ran out of motivation? I doubt cash could change that and this will definitively have an impact over its development and end result even if they feel and end obliged to do it.

No, we didn't have cash and we had to take side jobs to live by, that's why progress with the game was slow. We never lacked motivation to finish the project.

Yep, I was kinda disappointed by that.

I'm cashed out by a weaboo CYOA already with multi-skill checks. So yeah. I'll buy DS on steam when it's on discount.

Just watched the Kickstarter video and read the Codex interview. My interest in this game has gone up.

Now at $837.42. Added list of donors to the content item, corrected donation widget to display cents.

As per usual, blanked out last names with question marks where I didn't have forum names. If that's you, and you'd prefer a forum name there, PM me.

Thanks for the support guys. So, you have character portrait and zombie portrait in. I wonder whose face we will use... Andhaira as a zombie?

All joking aside, I do hope the lack of funds for this one is due to the fact that the Codex has been cleaned out by all these other fundraisers and not because no one gives a shit about this game compared to the others. If some shitty Knights of the Chalice bullshit Kickstarter comes along and the Codex donations start skyrocketing again I'm going to be disapointed in all of you.

As for me, I haven't given anything, but that applies for all these projects. If I do do anything the first thing will be to preorder Age of Decadence. Fuck you, I'm a poor student and I'm not gonna waste my money on stupid shit like this.

I didn't fund DS because it's not my kind of game, but I would give a lot of money to a KoTC 2 kickstarter, especially if it used the KoTC 1 engine. So I would like to act all smug and say "over the last few years, Codexers have learned the value of good combat in an RPG, so they won't support a game with AI party members".

But even though KoTC had some of the best CRPG combat ever, very few people on the Codex (or anywhere else) actually bought it. Consequently, I don't think that a desire for good combat explains the lack of success for the Codex Dead State fund raiser.

I think that something else is causing it. Let's see, we saw a lack of financial support for DS and KoTC, but strong support for Wasteland 2. We also saw a huge amount of Codex financial support for games like Skyrim, Oblivion, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Diablo 3, etc. Codexers complain about those games, but they still buy them in droves.

I believe that most Codexers are secretly graphics whores, but many of them are in denial about that fact. Because Wasteland 2 had so much publicity, made so much money, promised so much and showed so little, people were willing to fool themselves into believing that it will have borderline AAA production values, suitable for "modern tastes".

But with Dead State, it is clear that the game will only have indie level graphics, so Codexers suddenly find themselves unwilling to support it, even though it is clearly inspired by games like Fallout that are very popular here. Similar to how Codexers found excuses not to buy KoTC (lol perspective), even though they claimed to demand many of the things that it offered.

I propose the formation of committee with broad powers aimed at rooting out, exposing and discrediting the secret graphic whores among us.

I always stop and stare at the purchase screen for KotC. It's like a bastard child of Dark Sun and Ultima 6. Why of all camera perspective did they have to pick that one?

>_> So yeah, here's hoping it's actually good for what it is (tm) Good bye my $24.00 :takemymoney:

The Codex would end completely empty then.
