i'm trying 1000% to go out of my way and in some cases even modifiy the wheel so to speak to make everything call back to original wiz 1 - 6 wording, spells, interface commands, etc.

instead of wizardry empire 1-3's spell that cures poison called MOFISDIAR

i translated it as LATUMOFIS; as one quick example.

Great job compiling the list! I just wanted to fix something. Wizardry - Labyrinth Of Lost Souls (2015) does not seem to be on Android, only iOS. If it does exist on Android, can someone show me where to download it? It's absent from the Google Play store.

you'r e absolutely right. i forgot to remove the android tag from labyrinth of lost souls the last time i updated this. i've just been busy trying to translate wizardry empire. it does not exist on android unfortunately, but it does for PS3.

i'm sorry if that got your hopes up. still, don't be discouraged there's tons of turn-based Wiz-clones to play: most of them are right there on the list. if it makes you feel any better LoLS wasn't received very well by the japanese public due to odd choices like removing the ability to change classes (wtf?).

He's on an Android dungeon crawler kick for some reason right now. I'm not sure why, I just stream PC games on my tablet so it doesn't much matter.

In that case what fluent needs is to install a PSP emulator on his android and play a PSP dungoen crawler. Also could install a SNES emulator on his android device and play some Wizardry. With the PSP emulator he can play the PS1 remakes of wiz 1-5 and also has option to play elminage 1, 2, 3 4 and 5. (only 1 is in english on psp). Class of heroes is a good time-killer turn-based Wiz-clone on PSP as well.

i don't know if there is exists one but if there exists a PS2 emu for android devices then he'll also have access to playing iso's of Wizardry Gaiden 6: Prisoner of the battles which has options to change the game language into english and coincidentally is one of the BEST wizardry games of recent memory. It's a straight up homage to Wiz 1-5 and it is GREAT.

why do i mention all these emu's for his android device? cos there is NOTHING available for google play in terms of good dungeon crawlers. If he was on iOS i would recommend Sorcerer! by Death=Head Company there are 4 of those and they're 100% straight up bare-bones Wiz-clones.

Hey. I wouldn't say I'm on an Android dungeon crawler kick, but moreso a tablet gaming dungeon crawler kick. :)

What I mean is, I'm already emulating PSP, NDS, PS1, GBA, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, DOSBOX, etc. on my tablet and have downloaded a bunch of good games (dungeon crawlers included) for those systems already.

In terms of Android, I just want to see more legitimate RPGs on it, but there are a few good ones. I wouldn't say Android is completely devoid of interesting dungeon crawlers. I have several installed on my tablet that provide some entertaining RPG gaming. From Endless Nights, Endless Depths, Pathos, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and more.

Now, I'd love to stream games to my tablet. I have an Nvidia Shield tablet, and it has built-in Nvidia Gamestreaming available, but I haven't been able to really get the touch controls working all that well with that. I do have a controller attachment for my tablet, and have played a bit of Elminage Gothic streamed to my tablet, but I'd love to stream others, if possible. It's a bit tricky to get it all working, though.

Thanks for looking out, fellas! I'll post some of my own recommendations if you are at all interested. I still have a ton of games I have yet to get to as there are so many interesting RPGs.

yeah i would love to see more games/RPG's of worth on android as well mate. it's very unfortunate how all of the games are going straight to the iOS devices... which is insanely closed off.

post anything you want fluent! all recomenndations are welcome. Codex in general is too obsessed with only a few specific RPG studios. I think I told you already the first time i PM'd you but it was only thanks to RPG Watch that I discovered the very existence of Elminage: Gothic. RPGCodex is so prejudiced and retarded in many ways they prefer to give game of the year award to shit like The Witcher and refuse to cover a great japanese-developed 'Crawler.

Well, one great title that you have covered that I'm currently playing is The Dark Spire for Nintendo DS. Now this is a sweet 'crawler! Very Wizardry-esque, yet I call it a neo-retro 'crawler because it has modern features and contemporary flair and style. You can even switch to a Classic view which makes the game look just like Wiz 1!

But the game is really cool. NPC encounters, unique rooms, secret doors; the works. Oh, and a sweet multi-classing ability that lets you freely develop your characters any way you see fit.

You can watch my introduction to the game on YouTube. I covered it a few days back.

Hey, we all know everything made by an Eastern developer is wide eyes desudesudesu shit, and obviously the still images of your character the special snowflake matter far more than actual game mechanics.

fluent

Go into the JRPG forum and look up my thread "Compilation of Turn-Based Dungeon Crawlers"; it covers a modest amount of crawlers outside of the Wizardry family tree of Developers.

TDS will NEVER be covered on the Codex because it is for a console; yet it's one of the most RPG and hard-core games to come out in a long time. Codex is for casual shit like Pillars of Eternity and Witcher 3.

The Dark Spire was developed by Success studios who wet their feet by coding the New Age of Llylgamyn Saga ps1 and sega saturn collection discs; after that they released and continue to release yearly Wizardry titles for japanese mobiles under the name "Traditional Wizardry"-- that's actually their main bread and butter.

They apparently got lucky a few years ago and someone at Nintendo took pity on them and let them make a game for the DS so they made their dream game, The Dark Spire; unfortunately it did not do very well commercially neither here nor there so there's no sequel in sight.

I haven't been able to play the Traditional Wizardry games yet because I don't own a japanese mobile device nor will I ever own one, and I don't think there's going to be an emulator for that any time soon, but from what I've read in the japanese blogs I google when scouring for news about dungeon crawlers and Wizardry the games are apparently very well made and very... traditional.

They definitely know what they're doing when it comes to Wiz-clones.

On a serious note, the English version of Sword City comes out on Vita April 26th. Which means there's enough Vita specific Dungeon Crawlers that I can actually consider it worth purchasing.

Incidently, I got my Dark Spire for 5 dollars. Apparently the soundtrack alone sells for 75.

Yeah, Stranger of Sword City looks dope as fuck. I can't wait either. HOPEFULLY it'll live up to all the hype; Team Muramasa absolutely knows how to make a good Wiz-clone (re: Generation XTH: Code Hazard for PC) but they've been rehashing the exact same game for quite a while now... supposedly Sword City is somewhat of an improvement on their Wiz-clone recipe. Hope so.

EDIT: (what I mean is that the majority of their PSP/VITA/3DS output are casualized remakes of their earlier PC-only games or entry-level crawlers meant to attract novices to the genre like Demon Gaze)

Someone didn't get the memo. Mind Zero, Demon Gaze, Operation Abyss = Casual boredom. Dungeon Travelers 2, Stranger of Sword City (?) = Okay-ish.

The vita so far is a dungeon crawler noob dream, but I personally can't really stand Demon Gaze.

EDIT: I also hate money so I can talk about the vita verison when that comes out.

EDIT EDIT: I also bought Elminage Original and I'm just floored. Manual explains jack-shit, controls are iffy, but everything else is ace. I'm really put off with the manual biz since now I have to rely on hearsay from forums, but better than Demon Gaze that's for sure.

Weird. Demon Gaze was described as this month long masterpiece. That suggests something quite a bit more... hardcore.

So I was stuck at the car repair shop for 5 hours today and decided to try out Wandroid - one of those janky Wizardry-likes on Android. Actually had a pretty good time. Yeah, there is nothing remotely graphically pleasing about these. Wireframe walls and doors, and text menus are all you get (not even monster graphics). But the core Wizardry 1 style gameplay is there. And they are in English. There are 6 games in this series.

I found the developer's site and you can see a rundown of various stats for Wandroid #1 (Ordeal from the Mad Overlord) here: http://homepage1.nifty.com/taka_homepage/ofmo/main.htm

Also of possible interest are some PC games the developer made called Wanderers. I think these are also Wiz-clones but couldn't get them to load as they are made for Windows 98.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Divinity: Original Sin Torment: Tides of Numenera Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture
I just beat Wizardry 1: The Llylgamyn Saga with a level 12 party. I got incredibly lucky, as I surprised Werdna and only had to face 2 additional vampire lords in two different ranks. My cleric turned one in the surprise round and my two mages killed the second on the regular turn. That left only Werdna, and my cleric got lucky again on round 2 and silenced him. Four rounds of pummeling later he finally went down without ever casting a spell. Defeated by a level 2 cleric spell. A good thing, too, since my party was barely limping by. The teleport spell back home killed off two of my team members, but I can still claim a win.
