Would you care to post a few screenshots of your own, if you haven't already in some other thread, at more or less the exact moments and scenes some of the screenshots we've been seeing lately were shot at? If it's not too much of a bother, it would lend much more credibility to what you say, as the alternative is purchasing the game and checking for ourselves which is obviously not a good solution.

REALLY that's interesting because I've watched several reviews and the graphics from them line up with what those screenshots show.

I'm sorry, so you played the first game in 2 days, uninstalled it as soon as you finished it, then whined on an internet forum that people are being idiots? Seems like a perfectly logical thing to do to me. Why don't you take some random screenshots from whichever one you're playing now? The lighting in the remaster really reminds me of the Metro Exodus vs Exodus Enhanced Edition comparisons that came out just last week. As a brief digression; raytracing is a great technology and in some situations in Metro EE it looks really good but, in a lot of shots due to new fangled ray tracing and light bouncing off of surfaces, pretty much every scene/area shot where the intended mood was dark/shadows was just shot to hell, lit up like a christmas tree and completely undermined by the new lighting model. The original game simply wasn't designed with that in mind.

That's why when I'm looking at these Mass Effect shots, I'm a bit miffed - didn't they say that it was too much work to port it from Unreal 3 to Unreal 4, so did they just try and backport some of the new GI techniques then. Because that's what I'm seeing in these shots - maybe in terms of the math behind the new lighting model, the new lighting is more technically "correct", but none of the areas were designed for it and the results seem to to speak for themselves.

And to be fair, I remember when I transitioned from using an older version of Unity to one of the newer editions with the "improved" lighting. The "new" PBR lighting model there may indeed be more "technically" correct, but it looked like hot garbage in terms of how it looked out of the box compared to the older lighting model (you have to put way more time/effort into the new system to get comparable/better results, or at least that was my experience). And it just seems that more and more of these remasters/enhanced editions just think they can slap in a newer lighting model and it'll just be "better". When in reality a lot of the shots look like the scene is lit uniformly or completely unlit.

There aren't many graphics settings, but I have found the visuals vastly improved by disabling HDR and setting the brightness to -3.

If I had a way of skipping cutscenes it would be easier to post comparisons.

This comparison shot perhaps isn't the best, because the default brightness settings really wash out the environments. The lighting in the original release obviously had more intentionality behind it, but these setting changes make the lack of craft in the remake more tolerable.

You are taking this way too seriously. And invoking the Hitler and Holocaust denial cards do not constitute an argument. You've made certain claims in this thread which made me believe you were open for a discussion, and considering the nature of said claims it was rather easy to back them up with something. My mistake in thinking that.

That aside, I don't really remember Mass Effect 1 being either as dark as some people here say it was (and screenshots potentially show), or as bright as this Remaster is. I've gone through a few comparison videos on YouTube, made just a couple of days ago "at worst", and it seems to depend a lot on a scene and where the player character is looking towards. For example, this comparison video makers the Remastered ME1 look much darker most of the time, in select scenes of course (ignore the chatter by the video makers which is predictably shallow shilling):



Other videos I've seen show the opposite, which might mean it is highly dependant on a scene and whether the people behind the remaster understood what that scene was supposed to look like. Character models is another issue of course...
