First time I've ever seen a remaster using the exact same engine. Apparently, upgrading to Unreal 4 would have been too much work.

Wouldn't surprise me if this whole remaster was their way of making some cheap bucks while allocating more personnel to the development of DA4 in order to avoid it being either a new DA2 or a new Andromeda. :M

Upgrading to UE4 would have been a remake, not a remaster.
And there are tons of remasters that use the same engine, wtf

Bioware strikes again anyone who buys this shit is clinically retarded it looks worse than the original and it alters the lighting so the shots that had nice and moody atmosphere look like shit now

Cant wait to replay those great side missions in mass effect 1 like the one where you had to drive around with your shitty buggy collecting some space trash or that one that took place in copy and pasted cave that is used in other 5 missions. First mass deffect has about 20h of good content rest is total trash never played the other mass deffects so I cant comment on them.

I've been thinking more about this, and I have a different interpretation of the series that makes everything make slightly more sense, including the silly human Reaper thing and ME3's ending. I'm looking forward to replaying to test it out, as I really don't know if the interpretation will hold up across all 3 games.

Basically it's this: the reapers are really fucking stupid.

This isn't unheard of in Sci-Fi as there is a long tradition of stories about AI attempting to logically reason through human behavior, while also working towards its objectives, and fucking everything up in the process. The reapers might just be another example of that. They aren't omnipotent beings with a brilliant plan. They are just flawed and fairly simple AI, designed by an alien race, which have stuck around long after their creators died, still trying to fulfill their directives. Enter a bunch of new species, millenia later, that they don't understand at all, yet they have to try to fit into their directive. Their intelligence wasn't designed with the morality and worldviews of these new species in mind, so they decide on a new directive and fumble around in the dark like toddlers with a shot gun, indoctrinating some, attempting to communicate/understand them by creating a silly, massive, human reaper, and then.......ending of ME3.

That's just a cope (same as the indoctrination theory) when we more or less know what the writers had originally planned for plotwise.

Meh, authors are dead. Intent doesn't matter as ultimately intent isn't contained in the end product. Authors may try to design intent into a game in various ways, but if an interpretation works despite this, then it works. That's how a movie like "The Shining" can have a million different interpretations, all logically consistent.

I agree with the notion of the death of the author in general, but more often than not it only makes sense if you apply it to the thematic underlying of the narrative rather than the plot itself. In this case, even if some theories make sense plotwise, ultimately they have no thematic backing to justify it.

Coming up with such theories seems to me as a sort of sunken cost fallacy in which you have to theorycraft your way out of being disappointed with a particular game. Yet if it brings you solace, the more power to you.

also just a symptom of using an engine that wasn't designed to be easily moddable
aurora engine and its ilk were designed for modding from the start, which is why nearly all of the games made on it have such vibrant modding communities
Unreal is designed to be moddable. Devs can purposefully bake things in a way that makes it more difficult and refuse to release an editor to slow people down.

Always been upfront about really liking bioware games back in the day so tis no hypocrisy for me.
I am genuinely sad at seeing my nostalgic memories being prostituted and demeaned by a bunch of hacks with little to no respect for the original, hastily slopping together a visual update and modesty mod to squeeze out the last drops of bioware’s milk as EA recoups what money it can before adding bioware to the open ditch of dead bodies that is the list of once prestigious studios it has utterly raped to death.

I unabashedly love the Mass Effect series and have played it though 3 times. I even liked Mass Effect 3 better than Mass Effect 2.

The only genuinely bad Bioware game is Dragon Age 2. Andromeda is mediocre, but all their other games are good to great, including DA:I which is good (not great).

So suck on that, bitches.

LOL. BioWare was like a ex girlfriend who once was gorgeous, treated you with respect and love, gave the best times of your life and now, is feminist, overweight, uses a sjw hairstyle and is fun to mock her among friends and remember the good days in the past...

including DA:I which is good (not great).

DA:I is trash. The most repetitive SP game of my life. And the monsters are bullet sponges. I usually don't ask for refunds, but DA:I was an exception. I asked for it and sadly din't got the refund. DA2 is less awful. At least DA2 has a interesting mages vs templars story, instead of "defeat demons and save the world".

I've finished BG2 dozens of times. finished DA:O 2 times, finished DA2 a single time but will never finish DA:I once.

It ultimately is, but he lacks the self-awareness to realize it. :M
