Eh, Jagged Alliance was fine with having women.
I wouldn't say 80s action camp is realistic.
Let's go further and say that 99% of games aren't realistic (as in "real-life realistic"), like Operation Flashpoint or ARMA or flight sims.

Alternatively, Jagged Alliance is certainly a more realistic game than a fantasy game, for one. The same way a game set in our modern world in the 80s is more realistic than some distant sci-fi future. Hell, even based on the in-game rules alone it is more realistic than a lot of games with abstracted rules and mechanics.

That movie makes an effort to explain why, at least. What is your point, exactly? It won't change that it's silly, and Menace will feel silly if 50% or more of the officers / troopers are women - with the probable addition of being a gang of perfect rainbow diversity.

My point is it isn't going to be a realistic game. It is a sci-fi game set in "the far future", so having women in there is not really a shocker, even with the current trend of shoving the women everywhere.

It seems the military will work under realistic standards, and as far as I know, current standards are that the majority of the military is men. I just come to expect the military to be the same in the future, as it has been for thousands of years. Unless we have lore reasons for it being so. But I doubt it.

Isn't this supposed to be some sort of JA2 with predefined soldiers and now with factions as well?

There are women mercs in JA2 too, I don't see any issue with this honestly

The backlash stemming from all men BB to having women in Menace is hilarious

Granted I'll take that the art direction is farily generic and boring but I'll take it if the tacticool aspect works well

:what:

I have no idea why you're projecting your expectations on the genre that mostly has very low basis in the reality to begin with, even in games that were made in the 90s.

Since their inception computer games had women combatants, and it never was a problem. On the contrary it added to a setting.
Now that we're in the middle of a culture war, such things acquire much larger importance.
You don't have to participate in a culture "war," friend. You can acknowledge that both sides of the political divide are trying to get you worked up over woke shit and you can wish a pox on both their houses.
Ok schlomo, both sides etc.

I quite like what they’ve shown this far. Even despite Unity it looks p good due to the art direction which afaiu is made by the same guy responsible for the BB.

Because it's grounded in something, right? Have you even seen how they are depicting the military in Menace? It's very Marines in space. Guess I don't understand why it has to be 50/50, that it surely will be.

Like I said before, sci-fi more often than not means that creators have creative freedom to do whatever they wish.

Have you even seen how they are depicting the military in Menace?
No, I haven't. Their site for the game has literally zero information about the game.

"Marines in space"?

Yeah, yeah, I know: "the proportions are different. Female marines there are the exception, not the norm", but I would still argue it is "more of the same", only with proportions amped up.

You can also argue that with the transitioning from combat based on stregth to combat based on eye-hand coordination it actually makes sense to send more people into the fray should the situation call of it (provided that both sexes equal roughly half of the population). Yes, it would be the extreme example of "female Soviet soldier" type of conscription, but it is a real one nonetheless. This kind of policy makes even more sense to adopt in a war-torn galaxy, where everybody has to go through some form of combat training, just because it is necessary for everyone's survival to have as many able-bodied troopers as possible.

And even ignoring such explanations, the new XCOM had plenty of female soldiers that were no different from male soldiers. Nobody really gave a fuck. I doubt many people will do in this case, too. Personally, if they give people the ability to mod in some sexy outfits, I'd actually welcome our new female recruits with both hands. As I said, sci-fi in the far future is enough of a fantasy to me for 50/50 split not really making a difference.

That said, my chief concern for now is the gameplay.

Female characters! Finally, it looks like these devs learned from their mistakes in Battle Bros, which was completely unplayable, and made a game that is actually worth checking out. Looking forward to it.

Idk what the problem is really. Since their inception computer games had women combatants, and it never was a problem. On the contrary it added to a setting.
How?

In any setting trying to depict a realistic military, it makes no sense having 50% women. It was always cringe. Culture war, or not. And that includes X-com.
Eh, Jagged Alliance was fine with having women.
In Jagged Alliance the male mercs outnumber the female ones by almost 10 to 1 (and in X-COM, recruits are always much more likely to be male). And being a mercenary is a freelance business. Having a few female mercenaries is a far cry from perfectly diverse armies split evenly between men and women, as tends to be the case in modern games.

I wish this was true, as I've always wanted to play battle brothers as it seems to have good word of mouth and good features, but googling says that there are still not female characters, even with all the DLCs. So unplayable, because I'm not running no sausage party merc band.

don't worry, with mods you can fap on chopped wommyn heads and dismembered bodies all you want. only problem is if you are really into their feet.

I am aware of the mod, but I am not really a fan of playing games if the base game isn't appealing to me. If I like the game I'll try mods out after I beat it, but I usually like to play the base game un-modded first. The reasons are because mods often add a lot of other stuff that I may not like and may ruin the game play balance (which is the case with the mod that adds females in Battle Brothers as I understand it) and also because I don't really want to give money to developers for making games that aren't appealing to me. They will need to cater to my needs and wants if they want my cash.

And it looks like my non-purchase and non-playing message was received loud and clear for their next game! Success!
