Original voice cast is back but what that means is anyone's guess. Are they going to rerecord or just use the 2004 VO?
Problem with rendering so much detail is that the geometry underneath and the level design are still from the PS2 era. The original's geometry and detail mesh better. It's like those ugly Unreal Engine Ocarina of Time recreations.
Upon closer examination, I have to concede I like this naturalistic light for the jungle enviroments
Don't know how it will look in the industial levels, but at least in the outdoors its quite pleasent and moody (specially in the 1st image)
The amount of detail is also quite impressive, though I think this may work against them
The original game already was quite dense in enviromental that if you didn't pay attention you could miss out many interactable fauna and flora
But at the same time, they were distinct enough that once you had knowledge of them you could quickly pick them out from the background (even on new levels)
On what they presented here though...
Take for example the vines on the tree in the 2nd image
In the original game you can climb those vines, thereby learning that trees with vines can be climb onto
But more importantly the vines had a visually unique texture that made its trees stood out from all other trees, almost like a sore thumb
Here not so much, the vines blend in too much with the rest of the enviroment - it's not something I think I could pick up with just a glance on the binoculars...

Glad to be of help!
That's why emulating the game is a bitch and a half.MGS3's controls are literally impossible replicate on anything except the PS2 or PS3. It's one of the few PS2 games that uses the pressure sensitive face buttons, and one of the even smaller number that used them for something other than a car's accelerator. The 360 version of HD collection had to totally rework the controls because of this. And worst is that I am sure that the gameplay will essentially be MGS5, because there's no way modern casual audiences will tolerate the unorthodoxy of MGS3 controls
I'll bookmark them insteadThis game is gonna be better than the original, mark my words.
The whole remake thing has really become an absolute travesty at this point. It just never ends.
PCSX2 allows to map a button as a pressure modifier - on my Dualsense for example, I use the touchpad. It's not perfect, but it works. The face buttons in MGS2/3 only have a binary pressure modifier - light touch/heavy touch. That's why emulating the game is a bitch and a half.MGS3's controls are literally impossible replicate on anything except the PS2 or PS3. There were 2 versions of MGS3 on PS2: the original Snake Eater release and the Subsistence re-release; Subsistence had the 3rd person camera. As far as I can remember, the default camera in MGS3HD is the same as in Subsistence (3rd person) and pressing R3 reverts to the orbital camera. Can't remember... Did the HD remaster of MGS3 default to the rotational camera every time you entered an area? I remember complaining about that, but then played the PS2 version again after many years and found that it continues with whichever cam you used in the last area. Just not sure about the PS3 version. It changed a few things, like making Cross proceed and Circle go back in the menu, according to Sony's requirements, removing the nightmare and repeating the Debriefing theme in the end credits to make room for the Platinum Games people. Always found that last bit distasteful in film restorations and game remasters. It's not your game. Add your credits afterwards or make them accessible through the menu.
Yes, I know. I owned and 100% completed (minus stupid achievements and emblems) all three versions: original, Subsistence and HD. But I remember criticizing the later version(s) at some point for defaulting to the rotational cam, pointing out that the areas and enemy patrols were designed for that fixed cam and that the areas look better from afar. There were 2 versions of MGS3 on PS2: the original Snake Eater release and the Subsistence re-release; Subsistence had the 3rd person camera. Ground Zeroes alone is better than 3.That's because you have shit taste.Agreed. I liked 1, 2, and 4 more. I probably would never play any of them now but back then when I was a dumb kid 3 was my least favorite.I never understood the hype behind this game, the game is mostly composed of typical nonsensical Kojima cutscenes, the injury system in theory is great but in practice is way too simplistic and becomes repetitive, the ending is a railshooter.
MGS3 is literally the pinnacle of the series, followed fairly closely by the first MGS. 2 and 4 were utter shit. And 5 was just kind of meh if you're being completely honest with yourself.
