Has this game been patched and optimized a bit? I remember constant crashes, memory leaks and high end PC having problems running it, especially in later areas.

I didn't have any crashes all the way through, so they must have patched it up pretty well.

So what's the conclusion on MMLX? All Ubisoft games are currently heavily discounted on Steam but I hate to be forced to use the uPlay crap... I guess it can't be avoided?

I mean, should I for example get LoX instead?

For those who like blobbers, it is a great game. Not too long or too intricate, but basically the classical style brought up to today's standards.

Independence from Uplay will only be achieved after Steam purchases Ubisoft in its bid to swallow the entire industry.

You could always pay for it and download a pirate copy instead. There will be no more updates.

Uplay is no more of a virus than Steam is - which is to say I don't like Steam either. But having them both at the same time is a bit too much, I agree.

I haven't been able to get the game to launch through Uplay in months. Fucking stupid - I own the game and can't play it. Say what you want about Steam, at least it reliably launches games.

If they ever make a version that does not have UPlay, I will definitely purchase this and play it.

Here's hoping that it will one day be released on GOG. Ubi already has some games there so it's possible. It also might bring people back to the game since it would not require Uplay.

Yea, you would need really great games to convince me to shovel more malware on my system. At least it seems to be a true RPG, so I might buy it in the midprice section - but not with intrusive DRM.

I didn't have any problems at all with the latest patch, you could try it now.

Well, thanks for the responses. In the end I decided not to buy it due to uPlay requirement (you can read about all kind of problems with it on Steam forums). I hope it'll be available on GoG in the future. No big fuss, I have several games in my queue anyway.

Finally completed the game.

I am going to revise my original opinion and upgrade the game to "pretty good". If you are looking for a turn based blobber - this is the one of the best of the few available.

Why did I upgrade it?

Character progression - pretty good. Even within each class there is a range of options - we have flexibility. I liked this as it ensured level ups were keenly awaited and required lots of humming and pondering. My Freemage basically ignored most of their Master Skills and focussed on defence and healing first and then later on with Fire and then Foci for better criticals. You also have the ability to save skill points just in case you find a trainer and then unblock the next tier.

I also liked that each class was "set" so even if you they could use Medium Armour - you might not be able to master it.

Towards half way in I began to think of playing with four mages. All good stuff.

Complementing this was the Relic loot. These are unique items that level up as you gain experience. I would sometimes use these to offset weaknesses in my Freemage such as buffing up their HP or improving evade ability.

Combat was also good. Sometimes I had the ability to use my environment to channel hostiles towards me - no 99 Barbarians found here.

However, my old memory fades here and there but I wonder if the hostiles were ever 4 across? I can't remember.

That seems strange as this game has no two up front and two behind thing going (like Dungeon Master or LoX) and any of your party were at risk at all times in combat. So was my party 4 across but enemies limited to 3? Hmmmmm.

Dungeons - mostly poor - but I did like the Lost City - lots of potential here for the next game in the series.

Random encounters - where are they? At Game End you are left back at the beginning with your heroic team with no one to fight - is that right?

Finally, I have quite a romantic teenage crush on Clouds of Xeen - I thought it was pretty amazing. I was too young to go all the way though - exciting and erotic - just had be twisting and turning. Now, much older, I can confidently say I finally lost my M&M virginity. With M&M X Legacy I felt compelled to go all the way to the end - and BANG, got there to completion. I am a man. My son.

Enemies were 3 across, but could flank the party on either side. So you would at times be outnumbered up to 9 to 4. Also, at least on Warrior Mode, monsters outclassed characters in hitpoints by a wide margin, so it always felt to me that our party was at a numeric disadvantage.

I thought the Lost City was well designed, and I also enjoyed the depth and atmosphere of the Tomb of a Thousand Terrors. And Sudgerd, because the flute puzzle and bringing dwarven vengeance was just awesome.

Lost City, Tomb of 1000 Terrors and the Forge were the best dungeons IMO.

MM3-5 all did the same thing, and since this is supposed to be a game in the same vein as WOX this didn't bother me at all.

Otherwise agree with your other points. You should go back to the original series and replay some of them - 1-8 are all great.

Take a Free Mage if you want to find all the secret passages. You need a spell, which only the free mage gets from Dark Magic, or a companion to see them. One of the companions is temporary and the other needs to be found and able to defeat the baddies that are near him. The secret passages are not necessary in any way really, mostly just useless loot, but will make it annoying for you if you're OCD about finding stuff like that and/or dont want to spend a companion slot for it.

Can someone give hints for a good builds? I'm gonna finally play this through.

Some things I picked up. From memory..

Vitality is important for all characters - so pump EVERYONE with HP

Unstoppable Assault in the Warfare tree is vital later on when many enemies are hard to hit with normal hits - it takes up mana though.

Oh - buy all the potions of mana and health (scrolls) every time from every vendor you can - they replenish every day. The low mana pots even help your fighter chars - see above. It won't impact your inventory.

Use the feature to annotate the world and city map - name people you meet and also name the different regions in the world map as you explore. This is because your quest log says go and find fat loser in dangerous forest - then you can' t remember where that was even thought you probably mapped it. We all been crying out for the feature to annotate maps - use it!

Take advantage of companions - you can have two. But note at a few points in the game you will have to ditch one. Note where you got them from. One gives you 10% more XP or something, one spots secret doors, one acts like a vendor blah blah

For some reason my Barbarian totally out damage my defender for the entire game. Go Barb with 2 handed mace - rocks!

Destiny - increases critical hit - awesome for fighters and rangers - you will need it

if you have one mage - it must be defensive first - otherwise you will get slaughtered. It should heal and shield. Afterwards you can skill up Magical Focus - not a spell tree but increases critical damage by wielding two orbs. If you have two mages maybe try one defensive and one offensive.

There is a horse companion that can double your inventory - it saves time I suppose. With adventuring out and about I had to keep on going back to town and selling and identifying.

Don't sell the relics unless you know they won't be helpful. Resistances are important

Good luck!

Cleric with celestial armor spell. Seemed to be a key spell. Don't even know if it's possible to do without.
Sword Dual Wielding/dodge/crit Blade Dancer is also quite effective ("Rape Dancer").
Earth spells are quite handy - stone skin, regeneration.
My best spell caster was dwarf fire priest (?). His high level spell is such an awesome group killer.

I think the base game on Hard is kinda doable with any party composition but you'll probably need at least 1 support mage.
The DLC however will fuck you up so hard it's not funny at all. For that I think that if you don't have the right party composition you're totally fucked and even with my balanced party I was pulling my hair out and had to cheese the last boss by abusing a bug.
