I remember back in the late 90's, after Baldur's Gate's release, Bioware was honestly hesitant to add dragons to Baldur's Gate sequels! They believed that they couldn't do them justice. That they were too big for the engine. (think of the ginormous dragon skeleton underneath Durlag's Tower)
And were completely right.

More confirmation that their production heirarchy is fucking backwards and goes from accounting/marketing to design/development instead of the other way around.

It makes me wonder, what would BioWare Edmonton do if they also had 5 years to do a fully explorable world engine and what type of game they would create...

The way BioWare make games is typically that they have a core team of writers and designers which do the main plot stuff, and then get a bunch of newbies/interns/etc. to do all the side quests separate from everything else. It's why so many BioWare games have such inconsistent and generally awful side content - it's not created with any attempt to integrate it into the main game itself. Corporate structure is very fixed within most developers, and from what I have heard, BioWare's is pretty hierarchical and rigid, probably more so since they were bought by EA.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that the key selling points would probably be dictated by marketing, then they'd spend those 5 years making the game 3 times over as trends change, and it'd probably be full of filler content in a desperate attempt to pad the game out to its required 40-60 hours, then upon release, the reception would dictate whether they are "champions of interactive narrative" or "bold, experimental and misunderstood."

So....Dragon Age Origins.

Also I didn't know the main devs don't bother with the side content- now it's all so clear.

As we speak, the Anderfels are being rewritten as a majestic, Scandinavia type land, teeming with nature and life. Anders was a gay outcast Viking. The plot is being altered so we spend most of the game there.

So Anders comes from a country called Anderfels in which the people are called Anders?

Word of Gaider says it's a nickname, not his real name.

.....really? I never read the lore, so... but... really?

I'm Anders, an Anders of the Anderfels.

Jesus. Not that it's not plausible, but... jesus... I hope everyone there is named Anders, like, it's the only name they have so they name everything "Ander" one way or another. That'd be perfect.

edit: What is it with nicknames in Dragon Age? God's sake Maker's breath, Anders! I fucked you in the ass! I think I'm privy to know your real name, dammit. Same for you, Fenris. "Little wolf", my ass.

Mass Effect planet exploration x 100. It's like multiplying something with zero.

Wheel? So passe. A product of the technological limitations of its time. We're so past that. They should stop clinging to obsolete concepts out of nostalgia. They should stop living in the past and move on with times.

Suggestions?

QTE wheel with icons for options, text is obsolete. But icons must not be too complicated, that may confuse new players. Accessibility has to be prioritized, we need to tap a great segment of the market: non-nerd population. That is why the dialogue wheel interface has to be streamlined, with big, accessible icons.
