Gave a spin of all 3 dlcs on samurai to see what's up with them. The first and third were pretty good in terms of levels and I enjoyed their aesthetics, especially the magic forest of the first mission in First Samurai.

Not a big fan of the boss fights in Tengu's Disciple. They went by fast since I clearly overleveled and overgeared but an Umi Bozu remake was not something I wanted. Yoshitsune was also pretty irritating in his dark realm phase since he perches atop those bridge pylons and shoots crap at you. Since the fight went fast, I didn't bother too much to see how I could knock him off them, but certainly something to consider for when I replay it on a higher difficulty. Overall, not too bad tho'. Decent dlc :3.5/5:

Darkness in the Capitol sucks. Three levels of the same burning city aesthetic, a boring, aoe spamming final boss and an extremely annoying first boss that attacks like a rabid racoon on cocaine. I was already not a fan of the human bosses in the game and Yorimitsu is by far the worst one. :1/5:

Tate Eboshi in First Samurai was weird at first since I thought she's extremely spammy, but after farming her in one of the side missions for Arc of Chaos I guess it was just wacky rng in the main mission. It took I think 30+ attempts to get AoC, but it was worth it.

Also, I know this is Otakemaru's origin story, but that fight with him in the middle of the first level felt random as hell. Anyway, good dlc, the best one of the trio. :4.5/5:

Rushed Dream of the Strong since it was getting pretty boring and was pretty much sleepwalking through it like Multidirectional mentioned. Very cool of them to drop a guaranteed Magatama with the -1 set piece bonus at the end of Strong, now I have the full set bonus of WotE without the helmet.

The difficulty increase in Demon is noticeable but fortunately my build is holding up pretty well so far. After the first 2 main missions and all the side missions in the first region, 90%+ of deaths came from fighting revenants which have been beefed up something fierce, especially in terms of toughness which makes them very hard to stunlock. Fortunately, they can be cheesed with Arc of Chaos.

I largely built around life recovery on amrita absorption which I have on armor, accessory, clan and one soul core and, as far as I can tell, they seem to stack with one another along with life recovery melee on the weapon.

Slotted 4 extraction talismans which so far is more than enough to get me from shrine to shrine and with the life recovery effects I can get stuck in and spam Empty Retribution without much worry unless I fuck up and get ganked. ER is pretty much my bread&butter, but I occasionally try to mix it up with Wildfire Flux. The issue with that one is that it can get tricky to setup sometimes and there is a pretty big delay when releasing the charged attack. Would probably work better in conjunction with sloth, but right now I prefer to use the magic slots on other things.

Also added Eboshi soul core on the guardian spirit for extra damage on absorption which saves me the carnage talismans for the really tough opponents, active skill damage on 3 equip pieces (tho' tbh I didn't actually test if they stack so this might be useless) and another magic scaling on the weapon on top of the already existing one. With all this, it seems I am not too far behind in the arms race.

Yeah the fucking revenants seem to have received the largest buffs. I stopped bothering with them unless I'm in a missions where I am given an NPC sidekick. Those musician dudes that auto summon revenants are kind of scary now.

I need to stack more life recovery on amrita, I have it on two armor pieces and it's already noticeable, but not enough. Also have some life leech on weapon. I'm at the point where I am getting to be 40 levels below recommended for missions so I might end up doing side missions again if it gets too hard, but for now I'm sticking to rushing main ones.

What clan are you using? I switched from Honda to Toyotomi just for the extra life on amrita. The chance to double received amrita also helps a bit with the leveling. Also, the Nuppeppo soul core has additional life recovery on absorption, so maybe consider getting one of those as well, if you haven't already?

Clan? What? Fucking great, even more mechanics to worry about.

*edit* Ok thanks for the tip, switched to Toyotomi. I had some clan with shit bonuses that were completely useless to me. Completely forgot about this clan shit, this must've been introduced way back in NG before my previous gamepad broke and I went on a long break from this game. And I must've ignored it back then too because I thought it was some multiplayer only shit. I'll keep that soul core in mind for later too.

Don't forget that you can you also rank up in the clan and improve the benefits received. Toyo goes from 20 to 50 life on amrita which is quite significant. Killing revenants and doing other stuff that earns glory should be enough, but I also donate stuff since usually they ask for junk like exotic armor plus they dole out some cash if you donate enough, and since I'm always broke, 200k+ is quite welcome.

Nioh 2 is so satisfying to play and has so much to do that I likely will not be picking up Wo Long for a long time, as I'll still be playing this.

I was gonna grab it as soon as it came out, but based on system requirements it looks like my GTX 1060 won't be good enough for 1080p/60fps anymore. I will try the "demo" anyway to make sure of that. Would suck if I actually had to throw 400 eu at new GPU, with these shitty prices. I don't think I would be able to afford it now.

The 1060 had a great run. Possibly one of the greatest for a GPU. But sadly it’s finally showing its age.

The prices are indeed shit but they used to be even worse.

Even paying same price I paid for 1060 now, which is 250, would be kinda painful to me. But no, to get at least 3060 I need to spend almost 400 apparently. The days when I would pay same price as for my previous card to get a twice faster one seem to be gone indeed. Especially since retarded consumers demonstrated that they are willing to buy GPUs even at super inflated prices. I guess prices are just never coming back to normal.

Hands down, Shibata Katsuie was the worst boss in the game.
I really don't know why is that so many people find that boss to be bad, to me he seems very straightforward and easy to deal with. All of his attacks are slow and have very destinct and telegraphed animations.

However, I was legit seething before I learned to deal with Gyuki bullshit.

I don't remember raging at any boss except for that Lady Osakabe fight, and that was only because it had shitty gimmicky design. Boss fights generally seem pretty fair to me in this game. Even now at NG++ I am doing most of them on first try. But then I started playing this game after finishing Elden Ring, and the retarded end game bosses of that will make a lot things seem fair in comparison.

He's very spongy so the fight might take a long time increasing the risk of mistakes. Depending on build and gear, it might result in getting killed in one or two hits. Which was pretty much my situation. I also find that the fight, at least on the first run, reduces your role to a more passive one which I find antithetical to the whole idea of Nioh.

While his moveset is pretty clear to see you have to account for positioning - basically being anywhere not near the center of the arena will probably result in getting hit by a charge - which is not 100% under the player's control and, on top of that, the tracking of his charge is wacky. Now, admittedly, this might be an issue with dodging at not the exact moment, but I've had fights in which I constantly avoided those attacks only for him to pull almost a 90 degree switch in direction out of the ass, seemingly at random. And I say at random because I have the reflexes and reaction times of someone who has been dead since Augustus was Caesar therefore I doubt I was managing to dodge just right most of time.

Overall, I think this is the sort of fight I've seen people call an "endurance" fight, but for me endurance fight is synonymous with crap design.
Not a great fight either. I'll give them points however that the camera does zoom out at least at some times. Which is more than some other Nippon studio managed to do in some 6 games.

I'm guessing the most likely reason I'm not raging at boss fights is because I went for a tanky build with Toughness close to 400. I can block a lot of attacks and still have Ki left over. If I had to be dodging most of the stuff I would probably be annoyed.

Oh ffs, I didn't realize you can sell the tea pots and not only that, but they are worth a metric ton of dorritos.

As always with these type of games I have no clue what more than half the fucking items are for because I can't even be arsed to read through all their descriptions. I should probably sell off a lot of that crap too.

There was one of those hard missions in DLC where you go through waves of enemies and multiple bosses, which culminated with Otakemaru at the end and I was actually having trouble with it on NG+, running out of heals before I could get his health reasonably low and thinking to myself I guess need to level up first before doing it. But then I decided to look at what items I have that might help, and turns out there's another item besides Elixir that gives instant health restoration. So, took me until the end of NG+ to even find that out.

Herbal remedy? Yeah, several times I was stuck on a boss thinking that if I just had one ore two more elixirs I would've had him. Then half a game later I realized I was carrying a crapload of those.
Also, I can't help myself but every time I read that item's name I do it in this guy's voice

Fuck, Extraction talismans when used with life recovery on amrita absorbtion gear are really good. Should've started using them sooner. And their duration is longest out of any talisman I've used so far.

For the most part, I enjoyed the gimmick bosses like Osakabe, Gyuki or Bocci (I think that was his name? The guy with the amrita all over his hands). The bosses I raged at the most were Enenra and the Tokichiro fights.

Well, I did die a lot to Enenra on my very first run, but then I was clueless about game mechanics and didn't even know how to use burst counter. Tokichiro was a complete pushover every time I fought him though. Gyuki I never had any problem with either. That stone dude with amrita on his hands, I don't remember his name either even though I just did him again yesterday, is kind of a lame gimmick fight but he's really easy so I never had to rage at him. Maybe it's because of different builds that we are having different experiences with bosses.

Alright so NG++ Kashin Koji is actually pretty hard. Just died a bunch of times on him and astarting to run out of Herbal Remedies, 6 left. Some of his attacks almost one shot me, I assumed that 80 Constitution would be enough for a while, but maybe I was wrong.

*edit* As usual, my "go complain on internet" strategy worked beautifully, beat him on first try after that. And looks like my Herbal Remedies are back to x10 again, so I guess maybe they only allow you limited amount of them per mission. Weirdly enough, next chapter didn't unlock, with the only main mission I haven't done yet being "The Golden Castle". I skipped more main missions than that in NG+ I am sure. Looks I will be forced to do the Lady Osakabe fight again, fuck me.

Alright, Dream of The Wise unlocked. I see I am 63 levels below recommended for first main mission. Nice, I expect fast level ups then.

I finally beat him with the most retarded strategy anyone's ever utilized in Nioh. He seems to be dead set on punishing long combos and recovering quickly from stuns, so rather than do anything fancy, I would just attack once or twice and then block while Tokichiro stood around waiting for something to punish. When he started moving again, I'd attack and then repeat the whole thing. I went from 30 minutes of fails to no damage.

After diligently clearing the first 4 chapters on Dream of the Demon, I went straight to the final mission and unlocked Dream of the Wise. I was about 70 levels under the 1st missions recommended level but it went surprisingly smooth with all deaths, except one (fuck you cannon guy) coming from the hellish hag cunts. Damage I deal is surprisingly decent still so I guess getting Con and Magic all the way to 99 and wasting a ton of time refining gear was worth it.

Now, question is, what the hell do I do for new gear. One idea would be to rush ch.3 and farm the WotE guy for orange WotE set and I'm not looking forward to that. The other (which seems better) would be to get grace of Tsukuyomi for Empowered Onmyo Magic. Unfortunately, that one requires 7 pieces of the grace. And I would prefer if all the armor was heavy as well so I don't tank my survivabillity. Somehow, I don't think this is gonna be too much fun.

edit: first 2 revenants with divine gear that I kill didn't drop their items, only divine fragments. What the hell, game? :?

Quick question: I've played Nioh 1 and even though I enjoyed it a lot (played until NG+3 or something), I never bothered with Nioh 2. Now, after playing Wo Long demo and enjoying it, I'm thinking about playing it in this upcoming week. Is it at least as good as Nioh 1 or does it go Dark Souls 2 mode and changes everything to be worse than the predecessor? Also, is there a bigger enemy boss variety or do they keep repeating a lot?

This game got popular here lately. I remember way back when this thread was deader than Steve Irwin in a tank full of stingrays. Good job Nioh 2 :salute:
