Gave a spin of all 3 dlcs on samurai to see what's up with them. The first and third were pretty good in terms of levels and I enjoyed their aesthetics, especially the magic forest of the first mission in First Samurai.
Not a big fan of the boss fights in Tengu's Disciple. They went by fast since I clearly overleveled and overgeared but an Umi Bozu remake was not something I wanted. Yoshitsune was also pretty irritating in his dark realm phase since he perches atop those bridge pylons and shoots crap at you. Since the fight went fast, I didn't bother too much to see how I could knock him off them, but certainly something to consider for when I replay it on a higher difficulty. Overall, not too bad tho'. Decent dlc
Darkness in the Capitol sucks. Three levels of the same burning city aesthetic, a boring, aoe spamming final boss and an extremely annoying first boss that attacks like a rabid racoon on cocaine. I was already not a fan of the human bosses in the game and Yorimitsu is by far the worst one.
Tate Eboshi in First Samurai was weird at first since I thought she's extremely spammy, but after farming her in one of the side missions for Arc of Chaos I guess it was just wacky rng in the main mission. It took I think 30+ attempts to get AoC, but it was worth it.
Also, I know this is Otakemaru's origin story, but that fight with him in the middle of the first level felt random as hell. Anyway, good dlc, the best one of the trio.
Rushed Dream of the Strong since it was getting pretty boring and was pretty much sleepwalking through it like Multidirectional mentioned. Very cool of them to drop a guaranteed Magatama with the -1 set piece bonus at the end of Strong, now I have the full set bonus of WotE without the helmet.
The difficulty increase in Demon is noticeable but fortunately my build is holding up pretty well so far. After the first 2 main missions and all the side missions in the first region, 90%+ of deaths came from fighting revenants which have been beefed up something fierce, especially in terms of toughness which makes them very hard to stunlock. Fortunately, they can be cheesed with Arc of Chaos.
I largely built around life recovery on amrita absorption which I have on armor, accessory, clan and one soul core and, as far as I can tell, they seem to stack with one another along with life recovery melee on the weapon.
Slotted 4 extraction talismans which so far is more than enough to get me from shrine to shrine and with the life recovery effects I can get stuck in and spam Empty Retribution without much worry unless I fuck up and get ganked. ER is pretty much my bread&butter, but I occasionally try to mix it up with Wildfire Flux. The issue with that one is that it can get tricky to setup sometimes and there is a pretty big delay when releasing the charged attack. Would probably work better in conjunction with sloth, but right now I prefer to use the magic slots on other things.
Also added Eboshi soul core on the guardian spirit for extra damage on absorption which saves me the carnage talismans for the really tough opponents, active skill damage on 3 equip pieces (tho' tbh I didn't actually test if they stack so this might be useless) and another magic scaling on the weapon on top of the already existing one. With all this, it seems I am not too far behind in the arms race.
