Is it at least as good as Nioh 1 or does it go Dark Souls 2 mode and changes everything to be worse than the predecessor? Also, is there a bigger enemy boss variety or do they keep repeating a lot?

It's not a DS2 scenario. Bosses repeat a lot, but don't lean quite as heavily on "revenants with a life bar" as the first. Overall, the content is on par with the original, but for what it's worth to you, N2 is less freeform in terms of builds (there's no "throw a rock and do 10,000 damage" build in 2) and there's a lot of tradeoffs in terms of mechanics (yokai shift, this game's living weapon, sucks ass, but burst counters make enemies easier overall so having a power-up isn't as necessary, things like that).

edit: first 2 revenants with divine gear that I kill didn't drop their items, only divine fragments. What the hell, game? :?

You mean ethereal gear? Because I have same experience. Any time I kill revenants with all orange gear they don't drop anything. I just assumed you can't actually get it from revenants. It drops plenty from other enemies though, just a shame most of it is not suited for me. Most of my stuff is still green, after having completed main missions in first two chapters. I am still doing the rush thing, kinda curious to see how far I can go with it. Obviously I will slow down on last difficulty and do everything or at least almost everything there, most likely. Or maybe I'll get filtered by that Kashin Koji fight that I already had trouble with on Dream of the Demon and won't even get there lol.

(yokai shift, this game's living weapon, sucks ass, but burst counters make enemies easier overall so having a power-up isn't as necessary, things like that).

Yokai shift might suck but some of the Yokai abilities are really cool. Ryomen Sukuna being my favorite for last two NG cycles now, cannot live without that soul core. I am trying to stack up as much Anima and Anima charge bonus as I can so I can use that thing more often. Love to use it when I'm out Ki. It recharges while animation is in effect, keep attacking.

Thanks for the answer! Seems good enough to worth at least a run before Wo Long comes out.

I would rate Nioh 2 a little bit better than the first one, mostly due to much better enemy variety and a little bit better level design. Both are very good games of course.

Never tried it. I tend to stick with One-Eyed Oni and the floating heads that grant elemental weapon buffs (so that I don't have to lower myself to investing in magic).

You mean ethereal gear?
Yes, that one. Kinda sucky to kill a guy in full orange gear and get jack for it.

I got lucky and got 4 pieces of Tsukuyomi to drop, now just need 2 more. With it, I'll push past 700 magic power and, if the wiki is right (and that's a big if) the full set bonus would give me 14.4% melee damage for this much OP. Wonder if that crap stacks with carnage, because that would be insane.

Ryomen Sukuna
I've been using Gozuki with Tate Eboshi and Nuppeppo so far. Gozuki is great at smashing things and stunning them, saved my ass a few times when the enemy was about to do a grab and I was in no position to dodge it. Breaks horns and such with ease and basically makes fighting stuff like those purple Yoki much easier. While Gozuki is single target, Eboshi has wide sweeping attacks which works well for crowd control and gives extra damage on absorption. Nuppeppo is there mostly for more life recovery, but using it does give Berserk status, but I'm not sure how or if it stacks with other damage multiplier sources.

I think if you don't raise Magic and Dex to at least 30 to max out Omnyo and Ninjutsu capacity you are doing it wrong and missing out on lots of great utility.

Oh, I'm well aware of the utility on offer, I just (generally) prefer straightforward melee combat and like building around weapons and armor more than spells and tools. And even base level magic is enough to equip one or two blessed bolt talismans and instantly headshot any human enemies, setting up a final blow or breaking yokai horns. One exception is going all-in on dexterity though. Running around pelting everything with kunai or feathers can be cathartic as hell sometimes.

Managed to get the gear I needed to unlock the 7 piece Tsukuyomi grace. The friendly dojo skellie volunteered for some testing and the damage for one quick attack in high stance went from 1186 to 1393, a pretty good increase. The bad part it, the buff only lasts for 24 seconds so you have to constantly recast crap to keep it up which can get tricky if a boss is constantly in your face. The great news is that it does stack with carnage - one quick attack in high stance with carnage against the same friendly skellie dealt 1661 without the grace buff and 1868 with both active. Since dealing damage gives me back the talisman, that means I could keep carnage up indefinitely.

Now, I think I can fit in a 4 piece grace of Amaterasu for +20% Ki recovery speed, especially since I've been pumping courage as it gives additional Onmyo Power. Now if only the game would considerate enough to drop some gear for the slots that don't conflict with the ones that have Tsu on, it would be excellent. :argh:

So, guys, what is in your opinion the worst enemy in the game and why is it those giant crab fucks that take almost 0 damage unless you're hitting them from behind except they're always fucking placed in an area where they can back up against a fucking wall!!11 And why are they everywhere in Dream of the Wise?

My current Odachi has "Imbue Lightning" on it, because I decided to forego using elemental buff talismans, so these crabs aren't much of a problem for me since they are weak to it. My least favorite are those Nuppeppo fucks probably. I hate grab attacks in general and they have the worst one of them all. :argh:At least their soul cores are good for my build. Last one to drop had "Faster Ki recovery after yokai ability use" on it, which is nice. I don't use Nuppeppo ability itself though, since Berserk also increases Ki usage, not just damage. Ryomen Sukuna aoe goodness all the way. Also applies both water and fire at same time. And against the bosses it drains their Ki pretty fast, I can make their Dark Realm phases last real short with it.

So, only after getting few drops of items with "Mystic Dyad" bonus I decided to look what the fuck a "mystic art" is. Turns out, I mistaken these fucking things for passive skills. But nope, turns out I had to have them activated. So that "extended omnyo duration" bonus that I thought I had I was never actually using up until this point. Fuck you video game.

Dream of Nioh unlocked. Recommended level for first main mission 510. My level 374. Well, guess nowhere left to rush now, probably gonna end up doing all or at least most of the missions here.

*edit* Haha just a trip from first shrine to the second one already got me 14 level ups. Love this shit.

Just unlocked that myself and was thinking how this is going to be fun since I'm even lower level. Otakemaru on Wise was infuriatingly hard as some of his attacks were practically instant kills and if he decided to do it while I was in an attack animation, back to the shrine it was. Can't wait to get one shot by some random ass Gaki now. :argh:

Heh, I did Otakemaru on first try, to my own surprise, because on previous difficulty I died to him few times. And he seemed to be switching into Dark Realm and out of it way more often than before. Really have no clue why I got lucky enough to not die even once but I'll take it. Probably tankiness of my build paying off, 393 Toughness and over 7k HP. Oh yeah, also pumped Omnyo and Ninjutsu Power to be at 500, got both Dex and Magic to 70, so those Rejuvenation talismans are quite a bit better now.

First two enemies in first mission, Gaki and Hellish Hag, I killed 4 times over because all those times I got a level up after killing them, and well, shrine is right there, so back to it. Then that Mezuki or Gozuki or whatever he's called, the one that drops the shortcut key, got me 4 level ups.

Jfc, you weren't kidding. I must've gotten some 30+ levels out of the first mission. Gozuki, the one near the shrine, alone was worth around 550 million amrita.

Slotting that effect on an accessory that increases drops for the same weapon as the one equipped finally fucking payed off. The difference is not earth shattering, but the new version of the weapon has a starred Life Drain on Active Skill that starts at 80 and is 190(+37) compared to 180(+26) before.

Next step would be to grind some scrolls and hope to finally get Ultimate Magic on one of them so I can slot both magic mystic arts since even at 750+ power the duration is frustratingly low and the faster cast speed is just too good to give up.

Cannot beat a cursed Suiki in main mission 3. I already died to her more than any boss fight on any of the difficulties.

The DotN version, especially the cursed ones, are massive bitches. Hell, a regular one killed me 5 times in a twilight mission, if I see them glow pink, I go full nuclear on them otherwise there's a high probability they will just one combo me to death.

Btw, I was meaning to ask, what's your build, bro? You mentioned you were using the Odachi previously, no?

Yeah I am using the Odachi remodelled to scale off Stamina, with omnyo talismans and ninjutsu feathers. Stamina getting close to 150 now, Dex and Magic at 80. I see the Ethereal Tatenashi set can get my Toughness to AA rating at 150 Stamina so I guess I'll be going for that. I wish more ethereal Tatenashi's would drop though, have only the chest piece, the rest is still Divine.

I am doing some Underworld now, after completing that Viper's Sanctum mission. Of course the snake boy boss died on first try so Suiki actually confirmed as stronger than bosses.

I upgraded 3 pieces of my WotE to ethereal using rarity inheritance, so keep an eye out for ethereal gear with that attribute on it since it's easy to lose it in the ocean of crap the game throws at you. I lost several pieces with stuff I would have wanted, such as the orange inheritable, because I wasn't paying attention enough when selling or disassembling items.

Yeah I guess I should pay more attention to loot, I lose patience and just sell it all off pretty often. Just got done freeing up my item box, couldn't figure out for a long time why I have so little space in it left, turns out it's all the fucking soul cores I was ignoring for ages that were taking up most of the space. So had to to do resting rites/soul match for a whole bunch of them for what seemed like at least 20 minutes. Now few hundred more slots in item box, at least I won't have to be selling off shit at every shrine in fear that I run out of space.

The loot system really is a terrible chore in both Nioh games. One area I found Wo Long seemed to improve upon quite a bit.

Underworld floor 9 boss Saito Toshimitsu can go fuck himself. It doesn't look like I will be able to progress much further in it if bosses are gonna be bullshit like this. Cannot even lower his HP bar to half.

Ok I discovered another useful item. Turns out I can summon a bunch of scampuss with a clay bell of beckoning. Summoning three of them made that boss way easier, he kept running out of Ki over and over. Hell, I even managed to do lots of damage to him in Yokai shift, which was a first.
