The digital-only PC release boasts stunning high-resolution graphics over two modes as Nioh: Complete Edition can be enjoyed either on Action Mode, featuring a stable 60fps, or on Movie Mode, a cinematic option that can expand the display resolution to 4K. These new enhanced graphical modes bring the dark and beautiful world of Nioh to life like never before.

No individual options? Just presets like PS4 version? Oh ya it's Koei.

Cool, although with the PS4 version being playable at 60 fps already, the port isn't as much of a leap in quality as with Souls games, which consistently run like garbage on console. May eventually buy on sale to replay with all DLC.

The real question is: Is it gud?

The combat system is great and a major improvement over Souls. The content is mostly worse, and what particularly suffers is enemy variety. It's not much worse, honestly, but the game is too long for its own good and the endgame felt very undertuned when I finished it at launch. No clue if that changed via patches.

Enjoyed the game more than DS3, in any case.

The easy answer: weebs.

More in depth answer: Early game you get overloaded with Single Swords from quests and bosses, particularly the Raikiri which is extremely good for when you get it. Lightning is also a great element since it applies a slow that's stackable with Sloth. Single Sword is also analogous to a straight sword from Souls, easy to use, good balance between strength, speed, and defense, but also has a pretty high skill ceiling. Endgame sword builds are also extremely powerful.

In my experience, Odachi, Axe, Dual Sword are the least common weapons you'll see on Revenants in Descending Order. Swords and Kusarigama are overwhelmingly abundant, and in my opinion the least exciting of the weapon types.

Note regarding elements: My personal favorites are Water and Wind. Water for offense, Wind for defense. The reduced damage from Wind, Dual Sword mystic art, and heavy armor trivializes pretty much everything if dodging isn't your thing.

2nd fight is the biggest spike in difficulty the game offers until you get to the challenge missions for most people.

Regular humanoid enemies have a stamina bar that functions like yours, bosses like Tachibana have a stamina bar that is more like a Yokai; you need to avoid until there's an opening to attack and deplete the stamina yourself to stagger them. Tachibana is also the first humanoid you fight whose Toughness is equivalent to William having over 200, and will poise through attacks, so you can't be nearly as aggressive. It's also important to note if you get caught in a combo trying to dodge isn't always the best option; blocking will oftentimes end the combo before a roll would.

As for an off-hand to Dual Swords, my 1st playthrough I liked Axes for slaughtering Yokai and applying status effects to bosses. Its also the closest playstyle to Dark Souls, so if you're used to that its a good weapon to use. 2nd playthrough I liked the Odachi as my sidearm more than axes. Loved the fighting style. Mixture of grapples, huge complex combos and slow charged attacks. It also looked badass to run around with 2 swords at my side plus a gigantic one strapped to my fucking back, in full DEUS VULT! armor. Odachi and Dual Swords also share 1 damage stat, and later in the game Change to Attack: Stamina is relatively common for some unique Odachis. Stamina being the Equip Weight stat is pretty much ubiquitous on most builds up to 30 - 40 since Heavy Armor is (was?) so damn good.

You can also go pure Dual Swords and use 2 different ones, either for set bonuses or for 2 elemental effects for Discord destruction. The main downside is you won't see 4 swords on William's back.

Also important to note is while every weapon gets damage increases from 3 stats, there are usually 2 variations in scaling. For example, Dual Swords scale off Skill, Heart, and Strength. However, certain DS's favor Strength more than Heart, almost equal to Skill.

Finally, most of your damage early game comes not from Scaling, but the weapon itself. As such, I personally think it's better to up Stamina for Heavy Armor usability, and Dex / Magic for Versatility with Spells. Do NOT neglect Spirit either, as the Living Weapon bonuses are quite significant.

Definitely 70% and 200 Toughness. Beyond 200 Toughness is pretty much worthless as the benefit is only to Ki Reduction from Blocking and it's insignificant.

Ki Regen at the 30 - 70% Threshold is a little faster than Souls, regen and if you know how to Ki Pulse at all is more than enough to never run out.

As for Tachibana, his Stagger period is quite short. Imo, it's always better to keep attacking after a Stagger because you'll knock him down and leave him open to a Final Blow + Sign of the Cross (if you're quick).

One important and unintuitive mechanic is being able to block while staggered. You can't dodge out of some enemy combos if you get hit, and they will often end up stunlocking you to death, but you can block. It's therefore important to have a healthy amount of stamina at all times, as insurance.

For Tachibana, it *really* helps to learn the timing for dodging through his running slash. The safe strategy against him basically involves running around outside of his effective range and chipping away at his stamina, but he can still corner you if he does the running slash at a bad time. The most effective strategy is just parrying his high stance attacks, I think, though you need to be very comfortable with the combat to try that.

"The PC version will include two visual presentation modes: Action Mode, which aims for a stable 60 fps frame rate, and Movie Mode, a “cinematic” option with a 4K display resolution. Koei Tecmo's note to press suggests you can't deviate from either of these two modes, no matter how powerful your PC."

You can beat the game if you can beat Tachibana (who is optional anyway). Only fights significantly harder than him are optional as well, and only accessible close to the end of the game.

100gb. Wtf

I suppose it's only during the installation process that it takes 100Gb and not permantly while installed.

A lot of games nowadays use this method. You see it in GTA V and FitGirl Repacks. It works somewhat like this: the compressed installation file "weights" 15 Gb, during installation you need 45Gb of free space and after installed it's only 25Gb.

I can be wrong and this could really be 100Gb of space, but... that would be really stupid.

Anyway...

Bloodborne... :M

Oh please. One title and not a great one.

Not that I am saying that Bloodborne is a bad game (i've completed it and liked it), but it's not the masterpiece that Soulsfags claim to be.
Sure it has a great level design, artwork and concepts but the combat while fun is the most shallow mechanic wise From as made and most enemies atack types are either a barrage of quick atacks, lunge or lunge foward with a vengence.
It's also because of Bloodborne that Dark Souls III is the worst in the entire series when it comes to combat mechanics and enemy design.

Anyway. If anyone gets hurt by this policy are the companies that develop the games. Not just because PC version always sells more than any individual platform (PC version of the Souls series makes 40% of the revenue), but they also sell better in the long run.

PC gamers will eventaully get Bloodborne. It might take 7 years like it did with Demon's Soul's, or consedering the sucess with Zelda BotW might be sooner.

So besides that one title, tell me what other good games consoles have that PC doesn't have and much better? Or perks for that matter?

Trying too hard. Never ever PCfats.

Nope.

Demon's Soul's, Dark Souls I and II has a more heavy, slow and careful aproach to combat. Not just because your character isn't very fast, but also most enemies wait on a defense before attacking and their attacks all have big wind-ups before the move is executed giving you enough time to realise that move and execute a proper counter.

After Bloodborne Miyasaki himshelf said that in Dark Souls III they were going to try to apeal both the old fans (Souls players) and the new ones (Bloodborne players).

And true to his word when the third installement came out what did you get combat wise?

Movement speed for both player and NPC has increased, enemies with infinite stamina, enemies that just like Bloodborne only know either lunge or unleash a barrage of attacks, others with high HP bloat, mobs stronger than bosses, stregth builds being completly useless and Poise "working as intended". And mechinic wise DS III is the worst when compared to the other 2 and even DeS.

DaS3 was shit because From had ran out of ideas by that point and everything in it felt recycled but worse than the source of inspiration. Combat isn't bad because of "muh Bloodborne", it's bad because it doesn't commit to anything. Enemies move like in Bloodborne, but the player is sluggish like in DaS. The two concepts clash horribly in DaS3, but isn't an issue in any of the other games because everything was designed to work off of each other. Just shows weak design, which underlines all the problems that DaS3 had. Weak design throughout the whole game. Not exactly sure what you're complaining about HP bloat, barrage attacks and some mobs being stronger than bosses as those have always been things since DeS.

This would prolly be a better choice to buy than DaSIII. Not to mention From is now in bed with Sony so we'll likely never see another multiplatform Souls-like from them again.

Prolly will give in and slam mah dough on the table if ELEX turns out to be shit.

Team Ninja was making action games with better combat than the souls games before Demons shit was released

I love the Soulsbourne series, but it's always a facepalm moment when people talk about Team Ninja ripping them off. Since, you know, Demon's Souls was basically remixing what Ninja Gaiden perfected.

ETA: To be clear, just referring to the combat. Where soul's game excel is in mixing combat with environmental design for tense and rewarding exploration.
