I don't think Swen would sell anyway. Larian exists to let him make the games he wants to make, and giving up control of the company would defeat that purpose.
When he'll want to retire like Feargus he'll sell it too.

Lmao. ResetEra's fanboyism for Obsidian goes so far that gave up their usual left leanings and don't give a fuck about any of this. Dude that posted this pissed off a bunch of people.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/ko...-acquire-obsidian-entertainment.73777/page-63

Friendly reminder that Obsidian is a shady company that has covered up sexual harassment claims, blatantly lied to employees about work conditions then laid them off the next week after assuring no layoffs were happening, fired employees who filed workers compensation claims, fired women coming back from pregnancy, lied to contractors then let them go, among other things.
if I ran a company I'd never hire any women
if I was forced to hire women I'd just hire men that identify as women

I don't think Microsoft is interesting in waiting that long to buy.
I don't think Microsoft has much interest in Larian to begin with, but Swen probably won't sell it right now anyway, especially after they made some big buck with DOS2.

This time they'll go for Divinity 3 (their own Twitcher 3).

Speaking as someone who works closely with Microsoft/Xbox - the Xbox's main point of failure against PS4 and Switch is the lack of quality console exclusives. Microsoft have been on a mission all year to acquire small/mid-size studios in the hope that between them a few highly marketable new IP's can be created which will narrow the gap to Sony.

I doubt they'd be after Obsidian for what they've done already - they'll want to create something. Microsoft are actually pretty good at letting people spend money to experiment, as long as the concept is sound.

This thread is in dire need of some actual news.

Interview with Adam Brennecke at German Eurogamer: https://www.eurogamer.de/articles/2...t-fuer-klassische-rollenspiele-wiederbelebten

"I'm not sure if we'll need crowdfunding for another game in the future - let's wait and see!" He says. In view of the rumors about a takeover by Microsoft an interesting statement.

The only thing they will need in the future will be some jobs.

I don't know why people think MS wouldn't let them do anymore top-down iso rpgs - PoE1, Banner Saga 1/2, Original Sin1/2, Xcom 1/2 and other more PC-focused games, and they're selling just fine. It's a niche, but it's a niche that's working... just like Cuphead was a niche game that got (apparently) all the time and money they needed to make it happen.
Just like Neflix went crazy and brought up a bunch of movies and TV shows, that's what MS are doing now. They want Gamepass to be an over-the-top subscription service on any hardware-platform that can run it, and they want a wide range of niche titles to attract different groups to the platform.

When Xbox 360 took almost a half of the console market, they had japanese by the balls, and yet they:

1) Choose a full non-stop jew-mode, with Xbox One being weaker and more expensive than PS4: it was suppose to cost $500 originally (PS4 was $400). It's funny because the company itself has much more income than Sony and they could've easily beat them on that field.
2) They didn't stop at that and tried to bend consoletards by making games always-online with one-time activation.
3) After than they managed to fuck up many of their launch titles like Scalebound and Stormlands.

After all of this trainwreck they decided that it's time to go and fuck with PC too (Windows 10 and UWP). Started talking about how important PC is for them, despite not being interested in it for 10 years and losing a huge market to Valve (which is now like Scrooge McDuck in his vault) and yet they can't even bring a single fucking Halo game to PC. This company is beyond help, it lacks finesse and strategic thinking.

And Netflix actually suffers from all the stuff they bought. Many titles they release now are just forgettable and mediocre.

1 - Inability to make a coherent point without edgy codex-approved pseudo-racism aside, Xbox's epic quest to cuck their own brand started significantly before the Xbox 1 underwhelmed the world with it's disastrous E3 belly-flop. They stopped caring about pushing exclusive content, they turned their UI into a media-center cluster-fuck and got scared by the Wii into over-investing in the Kinect. That their hardware chased those same flawed design goals should have surprised no one.

2 - As opposed to games today, where the vast bulk of their games are always online, with a one-time activation? Yeah, really dodged a massive fucken bullet there. Kudos to all those who raised the alarm and helped us avoid that darkest of timelines.

3 - Scalebound looked like a sloppy turd and even platinum games thought it was going pear-shaped. Meanwhile, if you believe Avallone, Obsidian was at least partially responsible for Stormlands imploding.

After all of this trainwreck they decided that it's time to go and fuck with PC too (Windows 10 and UWP). I know I should hate UWP, but I kinda don't. It's shitty, but in the broader picture I don't care too much what OS pops up for 60-80sec before a game loads - and I don't hate having my partner's console games pop up on my desktop for free. At this point I'm not finding it much better or worse than steam.

And Netflix actually suffers from all the stuff they bought. Many titles they release now are just forgettable and mediocre.

I didn't say it was a good plan, I just said that's what they were doing.

The next Halo will be on Windows, as will the next Gears and some other shit. It'll be on the dogshit UWP Windows 10 Store, yes, but still there

That guy is some kind of weird snowflake. He apparently left ResetEra because it was too hostile(!)

Definitely easier to get info from his Twitter though.
