I'm thinking, in order of likelihood:

1) New IP, new title, new publisher
Could be anything. Cop RPG, Prison RPG, Sci-fi RPG, Horror RPG.
Impossible to predict but quite likely since they've probably been in talks with a lot of publishers after the KS success.

2) Star Wars game
Disney has already greenlighted a couple of games including a new Battlefront. I can see Obsidian creating a KotOR 3. Also Adam Brennecke just reminisced on twitter about his work on KotOR 2.
Lucas Arts is no more, so anyone could be publishing. I'd say EA but they're not present on the show.

3) Bethesda Softworks game
a, Fallout - most likely, if it's a Bethesda title.
b, The Elder Scrolls - definitely not off the table.
Bethesda is not an exhibitor, though.

4) Kickstarter
They could announce the game but not start the Kickstarter in order to generate hype, but a much better alternative would be to announce it before hand and release the KS around this time. Releasing the KS out of the blue wouldn't be particularly smart.

Both Star Wars game and Fallout you can kick. We have statements on both AFTER said project got signed (December 2012) that they aren't in production.

Other Bethesda game is of course possible.

are you sure they didn't just want to keep it hush-hush? "we have nothing to announce" or something similar. or did they explicitly say "it's not in production"?

anyway, for my 1) guess, I'm guessing Ubisoft is the publisher. they're exhibiting at the show, and South Park went well enough.
would an obsidian-made Far Cry be too far-fetched? I'm thinking a brand new game is more likely.

I'm guessing it's a well established franchise. The last time Obsidian was contracted by a published for a new IP, it didn't go well, sold copies wise. And AAA publishers aren't keen to forget that kind of stuff.

On New Vegas yes. And individual devs confirmed. On Lucas Arts, they activly said they were just pitching and the whole shutdown happened afterwards.

On Ubisoft. Signed before South Park changed publishers and during that period they said on twitter that *they barely made their contacts at Ubisoft* on questions regarding SP's release. So, doubtful.

EA signed an exclusive deal for Star Wars games I believe.

I also believe (but this isn't backed up by facts) that EA is the kind of paranoid company that wouldn't publish an Obsidian RPG because they already have their "own" RPG company.

Definitely not going to announce an Obsidian Fallout game before Fallout 4 is released. I could see an Elder Scrolls spinoff.

If Obsidian were making a TES game, I don't think it would be announced now. Zenimax wouldn't want to dilute their marketing campaign for TESO by announcing another elder scrolls project. Also, they're pitching TESO for the single player crowd as well as the MMO'ers. I don't think they want players to have the option of sitting out on TESO while waiting for the next single-player installment. In a recent interview, Todd Howard (don't think it was Hines) was asked about the next ES game and his answer was along the lines of "waaay too early to talk about".

Bethesda seriously needs to go their own way and get out of my life. Obsidian for Obsidian fans.

Is it possible for it to be something Eidos/SE related; didn't Sawyer visit them at some point a year - a year and a half or so ago and made some tweets about stealth gameplay (or has that stuff been debunked already)?

That was 2011, bro. IIRC.

And Sawyer isn't involved in the next-gen thing.

Was it that long ago? Jesus fuck time flies... Nevermind about that thing, then.

I know Sawyer isn't involved; it just crossed my mind that perhaps he was initially in some way with the assumption of an Eidos game.

Not directly about Obsidian, but might as well be considering he name drops them in the video. Don't let the fame go to your heads, Codex.

Why do people keep posting razorfist shit? He's not funny, insightful, or interesting.

Edit: I also don't get what his obsession with bashing Obsidian is. The only two games he even bothers bringing up are KOTOR2 (where the facts are pretty clearly known - it was Feargus's fault for not getting the contract extension in writing) and New Vegas (where I personally put the blame on the game media for giving Obsidian games shit scores even when the games themselves are excellent). And none of that really helps his original argument.

I might even agree with him that publishers get the blame for the studio (as is the case with Bioware, who have been riding the decline train for more than a decade), but he does a pretty weak job supporting his argument.

It's a fad. People used to put TotalBiscuit videos up here, and before him, Yahtzee. Yahtzee is a colossal cunt and TB is just an idiot, so I wouldn't mind people linking to TB, but it is generally frowned upon now - and I expect it will be the same for that other prick sometime soon.

He also gets tons of facts wrong.

I personally just find his entire persona amusing on some basic level. And his Witcher boycott was hilarious.
