Company News Obsidian working on a Pathfinder game - could be an Eternity CRPG + card game

I really hope it is turn based and modable enough to implement DSP's stuff.

There is NO way Feargus will ever let the Obsidian team make a turn based cRPG. They don't sell well (as in a game that is financially beneficial for Obsidian, not that that wouldn't like to do one). However if a Publisher wants a turn based game, that's a different matter (that will never happen, other than South Park).

Wasn't the point of developing their own high fantasy setting (Eternity) so they wouldn't need to license someone else's IP?

We don't know yet if this game is the kickstarter one. They may been contacted by paizo,(and in that case the game has a good chance of being turn based) and the new kickstarter will be something more exotic. As long as it's not post-apoc i will be game for anything

Didn't Obsidian talk about a return to the Neverwinter Nights series? NWN with the serial numbers filed off is a possibility (an annoying one as it would mean RTWP)

I would think it very weird if it was. Why would they do a Kickstarter for someone else's IP, sacrifice a huge amount of creative input, and split the profits, when they could KS their own thing, have complete control, and keep all the money? I'm no economist, but it makes no sense to me at all.

Not if Paizo came to them and said "we like what you do, have our IP and money and make a game". They'd be insane not to take an offer like that.

Nothing stops us from being able to do those two different things. It’s going to make us look at Eternity as a brand. What else can we do with it? I want to hook up with the Pathfinder guys and see about doing a Pathfinder Eternity world book thing. It sounds a little weird, but… A card game. A board game. I’ve already been chatting with Cryptozoic Entertainment. We have nothing going on specifically, but they have a lot of experience in board games and card games. That’s what’s going to be transformative.

Plus i don't think they would go from a semi-generic fantasy setting to another generic one. Their second kickstarter will be something more exotic. I just hope the Pathfinder game is an isometric 2D cRPG. That way we will get 3 good cRPGs from Obsidian

EDIT:^ So there is a chance the pathfinder project won't be a game at all.

Keep in mind there may also be a publisher involved here, to pay for the game's development (and take the majority of profits) Paizo gets paid for the license and enjoys a bit of promotion outside standard tabletop gaming circles, and Obsidian gets paid for making the game, and possibly a bonus if it gets a metacritic score above 85.

Then again, Obsidian isn't really capable of providing interesting or just simply FUN game mechanics so I doubt a TB game from them would be enjoyable.

I thought that maybe learned to be pessimistic about Obsidian rumors after the news about Armored Warfare. People were expecting it to be an RPG.
