Looks awesome, from the visual standpoint it's a huge step forward compared to PoE.

Just wondering, when did they have the time to work on this? Any idea who're the brains behind the story?

Apologies if it's been mentioned before in this topic, cba to sift through the pages...

Game being almost done and there not being any substantial info on its mechanics doesn't bode well. It would be hilarious if this was yet another rtwp joke when both the mainstream (nucom 2) and kickstarters (Battletech) are enjoying going turn-based and there aren't even many voices left whining "but turn-based is soooo 1939”.

What implied feature(s) will reveal itself as a symptom of the dreams we all project at this part of the marketing machinations of ’the evul’ Obsidian.

Will the real evil be another hollow post modern rpg?

Staying tuned for the next reciting episode!

In Tyranny, the grand war between good and evil is over –and the forces of evil, led by Kyros, the Overlord, have won.

Sounds like some Tolkien manacheistic bullshit for ten years old. I’m calling it now. This game will have SJW topics in it and shitty writing! Just you wait. Probability will have shitty combat system too. Obsidian became one of the main “forces of evil” in game design.

The South Park: The Stick of Truth team didn't just disappear in 2014.

The design team moved to Pillars of Eternity though. :)

^ This. As far as I understood, some of them moved onto PoE, and some were laid off due to cuts...

Tyranny sounds like it will have a strong identity, and is an excellent opportunity to showcase Obsidian’s world-building talents. I do wonder how far they’ll go with this theme when faced by social media and modern gaming press though, considering that even a silly joke on par with playground ditties (Zippy and Bungle were in the jungle having lots of fun…) met with backlash. To be honest I'm somewhat jaded the story will just devolve into the traditional hero forms/joins resistance arc.
When you say it like this I guess we are fucked. They could not keep that one backer joke in PoE, there is no way they can do this game right. At best it will make fun of everything and at worst it will be about sjw stuff in a completely wrong setting.

A game like that could be a good look into psyche of conquering troops with loose morals. Into how we used to be and still are in some parts of the world. But sjws of america will not allow that because as far as they know, everyone should be like them or not exist...
EDIT: Even USA troops shoot civilians, act like barbarians and then try to cover it up. Troops of an "evil" conqueror in medieval setting should be 10x worse. If you don't have that in the game about that, what is the fucking point?

You basically have two approaches to the "evil won/you are the evil" -scenario.

a.) You do it tongue-in-cheek, making fun of stereotypes and playing with tropes
or
b.) You do it seriously, showering the player with ever increasing amount of evil deeds and cruelty

If the trailer is true, then they have opted for the option b.

No, they opted for option c.) Present stereotypical characters in the bioware faction. The problem with SJWs is that their view of the world is so filled political correctness that everything becomes an unbelievable caricature. They cannot offer choices to rape, pillage, or whatever is considered “evil” in a positive manner, due to their own self-censorship and political agenda. Even with fluffy mechanics, South Park is way more aggressive than PoE in that sense, but I also remember the guys at Ubisoft complaining that the game didn’t look like South Park at all when they embarked on the project, and that they had to revamp the entire game before release. Political correctness is a childish world of view.

Except Obsidian have done evil options better than any major studio in the last 10 years. It was one of the telltale differentiating factors from Bethesda, Bioware, etc. POE and DS3 are written pretty much for you to be various shades of a good hero. You might as well say they can't write anything serious anymore after South Park. The real question is, between this game and POE2, we will see Obsidian's new crop of writers really flex their muscles, so it'll be a test of how good they really are.

No, the real question is: What Obsidian are we talking about? The Obsidian that delivered F:NV and MotB, or the Obsidian that delivered PoE filled with political correctness to the brim, and doesn't have CA, etc? Things have changed a lot in the last years. Saying that Obsidian did something good six or nine years ago with a completly different team is not reassuring.

I think that a lightweight relationship will get up to speed on the culture change. Hype induced ,mind-blowing ongoing support for increased productivity will enable most sophisticated customers. I'm impressed to see that the mission gets up to speed on team players, Tranny being the paradigm shift.

So this game is set in the real world after the evil Overlord Trump wins?

Anyone made the joke yet?

Looks promising - hopefully you can play everything from someone blindly reinforcing the overlord's will, to someone undermining him or even someone plotting to overthrow him and taking his place.

Also - maybe you can be an orc - that would be fun.

I am rather burned out of Obsidian. Right now I don't care about what they will make or not. But I would definitely revise this stance if they make an RPG where you can play iznogoud.

Let me guess, it will be like PoE. Astounding graphics, decent music, pretentious dialogues and shit gameplay.

I don't live in usa, but even I got tired of sjw bullshitery. Every single topic is discussion on how social something ruined rpgs, or yet to ruin upcoming games. America wake up! Do something! I want grimdark RPG!

The plot could end in a few ways

-Quash the growing resistance
-Overthrow your lord and install yourself as ruler
-Overthrow your lord as you become a goody two shoes
-Fuck everything and let the world burn

Sounds like plenty of opportunity for good convos, quests and mechanics.

Sounds like the perfect platform to deliver social engineering narratives for political crusades. I get this odd feeling that it will be dripping with social justice diatribe.
