Although we actually saw the background image last September: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity/posts/602051

The leader of the caravan is Odema (the guy with named voice actor who also does the narrator) and I think he's a companion that you can save or leave to die?

Calisca is the female fighter

Here's the bit about character biography.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2365...-to-rpg-classics-turns-promise-into-game.html
On our little excursion to find berries Brennecke also showed off the game's new "biography" system. The old Infinity Engine games allowed you to create a character, but only within certain bounds—in Baldur's Gate you were always Gorion's ward in Candlekeep, and in Planescape you were always the Nameless One.

When you walk off to collect berries, another member of your group accompanies you. She starts asking you about your past, about what you did before you fell in with the group. The answers you give—whether you were a soldier or a doctor—may play into the story later on, but more importantly they give you, the player, a better idea of the character you've created and his or her role in the world. Your answers are taken and inscribed into your character's biography for the rest of the game.

The German preview says Adam Brennecke told them PoE might be released on Steam Early Access. Adam said they haven't reached a decision on that yet.

The previewer also complains about graphics a bit. "Like, the graphics are totally okay, don't get me wrong, but the game is obviously low-budget and technically not quite up-to-date".

Project: Eternity
The ATB style timer bars is by far the biggest news I think. Either it shows the length of the animation and when this is finished you can select another ability. Or it truly is an ATB timer bar.

At the first dialog, trivially triggered by the stop of the caravan, the response options were twelve and included many choices determined by the statistics of the interlocutors, with specific skills that allow check whether or not the success of a joke, impossible to select if we do not have the necessary requirements .

That new italian one is awesome too, mostly because they hounded Josh for questions after :hahano:

Even particle effects are very detailed, as well as the steps of rendering the dynamic lighting system, to which Obsidian has added the weather variable. Also in this case it is not a simple visual tinsel, but a rain may determine the use of some skill, enhancing it or even creating a new one, until arriving to the Druids that can literally manipulate the climate according to their needs, the levels higher. This, we are sure, will create synergies in the party really unusual, though still nothing is confirmed and we can only imagine how such a feature can be implemented in-game (someone said Magicka?).

:incline:

Confirmed shitty animations however:

A defect concerns unfortunately animations. There seemed nothing to live up to all the magnificence graphics where the characters were moving, remembering again the headlines of the past, but in a negative sense, with the hands of the wizards that move randomly without any differentiation between the various spell, for example, or with a few animations depending on the type of weapon or attack done. For now, however, it is premature to worry about, and we are waiting to see if Obsidian will do something about it, even if it is in our view a detail in a production of this magnitude.

also lol

Compared with the title inXile, however, , Pillars of Eternity we felt much better designed and much more refined in every sector. And 'early to draw conclusions and beyond any doubts that we feel compelled to express as editors, we are confident that the story told and the experience that we live in the world of Eora will be those who will not forget easily, at least we gamers with a few gray hairs too. A safety-emphasize this-that we did not try so clearly playing with other throwbacks. Are you ready to unleash your ancient art of meticulous study of the statistics and long reading of the thousands of lines of dialogue that will appear on the screen? We will, as ever today! This winter, on every PC that respects itself, begins the journey to the pillars of eternity. And we will be here to tell you about it.

It almost sounds like there will be a couple of temporary companions in the opening section/prologue. So narration will happen from the perspective of Odema?

Sounds like unreasonably high expectations about the animations.

We need that RPS article written by Nathan Grayson to balance this out now. :smug:

I don't think Calisca is temporary. Odema I'm not sure is a companion, he never joins your party. None of the previews say that, they do say that you can choose to let him live or try and save him.

They sound like vailian names

Nah, we have been told a few times their animations were just in the early stages (one of the reasons they didn't want to release gameplay video to the backers yet), so it's probable it's really crappy currently.

You know you're obsessed when you're drawing conclusions based on the speculative linguistics of an unreleased game.

Speculation: Something happens to this Odema that puts him in the position to be the omniscient narrator.
