Gameranx said this

The player character--a wizard--was forced to party with a fighter named Calisca and a rogue named Hoedan to defend the caravan. Both of the companions were temporary, beginner characters in place of the eight permanent party members found throughout the game.

edit: beaten.

For reference, Sawyer told me Pillars is larger than Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, but a bit smaller than Baldur's Gate 2.

Job well done I guess.

Didnt Obsidian invite the bigger sites like IGN, Gamespot, Eurogamer etc?

Would be fun to read their opinion on a real rpg.

Yeah, that's pretty weird. They (Eurogamer especially) have covered other KS games extensively. Maybe they're still writing up their impressions.

I agree, this is the first thing i see that makes me want to play the shit out of the game.
I'm pretty sure stat/skill checks and descriptive text were announced/guaranteed to be in this game since day 1.

I recently tried to replay Baldur’s Gate Snazzy Edition (or something like that). It did not stand the test of time. Even though I thought it was the most amazing thing back in the day, everything about it annoys me in the present.

Gaming nostalgia is one of the stupidest quirks on the Internet. If those old games were so perfect and wonderful, you would not be able to buy them for $1.99 on GOG.

Well, that’s the point of this game. From the start they’ve made it a goal to fix many of the problems that plagued the RPG’s of yore.

Similar to what Double Fine did to Broken Age. It wasn’t anything like Grim Fandango, was it?

Oh i just need to say it finally.

Those who were questioning art style of Pillars of Eternity are fags.
I love everything about art style, even freaking font and those black and white on yellow paper sketches are fucking amazing.

Feast for your eyes.
Feast for your soul.

Seriously can't fucking wait for this game.

That's less than in DA:O. Obsidian, come on.
At least they are making use of stat checks...

Shouldn't there also be craft skills...

It's about quality not quantity, I can barely remember DAO skills and I beat that game several times.

Crafting skill is usually terribly implemented in games anyway, it fucks up balance and loot system (found legendary artifacts lose their appeal when you can create better ones yourself and chests usually contain some derpy crafting ingredients instead of interesting loot). As far as I'm concerned BG2 did it best, you had Cromwell/that little imp from TOB who could occasionally craft powerful and unique weapons/armor for you and that's it, you ragtag band of adventures didn't become master smiths over the course of the game.

They sound like vailian names
You know you're obsessed when you're drawing conclusions based on the speculative linguistics of an unreleased game.

Well from memory, Aedyran and Glanfathan names do not sound like that, so it's a pretty logical conclusion. Another name mentioned was Theodan which sounds Aedyran. I just remember the different styles from that thread Josh made.
That's not really helping your case...

I hope Josh wasn't mistaken when he said they have a 50/50 male/female split when it comes to companions. Means I can have a party not unlike my recent IWD/IWD2/ToEE parties (without having to hire mercs).

Reading all this is a bitter reminder of that Codex article about how you can't really learn much of anything from these 20-minute convention previews. Some of them definitely tried.

The tweet before that.

I could probably get through The Witcher 2 if they had a "Story Mode" like in Mass Effect 3.

I always say I was super into what it was doing right up until the moment I got a quest that was literally "Kill 8 spiders."

He's definitely wrong about "literally." That quest is also completely optional.

He has probably just taken to heart the 1000 times that Sawyer proclaimed that everything before PE is shit.

Sawyers favorite cRPG is Darklands. What are you talking about? Or are you just bored and a retard?
