Y'know, it's almost been a month and I haven't seen any grognards complain about how fighters, rangers, and rogues in D:OS have magical powers. Figures. Fuck D&D, fuck its fans, and fuck their expectations.
It's because D:OS is turned based. That makes it automatically better than P:E in every way, even if Pillars is better in certain areas. AKA the Codex is retarded.
Both of you are retarded, D:OS has no classes.

Not the point I was making, it's the overall way the codex approaches game critiquing that's the problem.

Not in my experience, ive gotten involved with this shitty site mostly because people here get it.

Anyway, a thief relying on wits and cunning to make up for lack of martial training (or magical prowess) is part of its ethos. It should be fairly easy to make a class competent and interesting within its ethos, giving them super powers because of balance reasons strikes me as retardation, this is why he was criticized.

There is no singular Adventurer's Hall. You will be able to hire adventurers at around the same time you get a companion. So for instance - you get to Gilded Vale and meet two companions. There should be a place there to hire two adventurers.

I hope you can recruit infinite new dudes if you lose some party members though, considering there's no resurrection.

Cap is 8 adventurers I think, but I'm not sure if that's at once, or an ultimatum.

Are you two talking about combat? Because that's the core of Pillars of Eternity, so it makes sense all of the classes are basically "Martial Artists" of different sorts. It's kind of like MMO classes really. Because of that, it needs to be balanced. It's not like DnD where you can run around with weak Thief cause he has other stuff to do...

They're doing good with their concept, IMO. Fight shit, talk shit, linear as fuck - that's your IE games right there. Sawyer gets it.

Dont be ignorant eremita, thief had arguably a couple of the strongest skills in the whole game in BGII.

Infinitron, remember how I was concerned about Interrupt?

I don't think Josh's current stat system is too far off his goal. I think during testing it will be important to tweak the amount of bonuses that each attribute gets rather than just have all +2% or whatever.

rope kid said:
The amount by which a point of Dexterity increases Accuracy is less than the amount by which a point of Perception increases Interrupt. Interrupts are pretty valuable.

I love it when people talk about having me on their ignore list, it shows me I'm still in their minds, hearts, and prayers.

:M Josh Alert :M Yesterday he purchased and played Divinity: Original Sin for 30 minutes. No doubt he's already grown bored of it and shelved it just like he did with The Banner Saga.

+M Alert for Josh +M There's a group of women (and maybe some gay men, can't be bothered to check) who really like it when he's not wearing sleeves in videos. I'm not part of that group; I don't care either way.

Both of you are retarded, D:OS has no classes.

Yet I have seen no one aim that kind of criticism when it comes to D:OS's scoundrel skills, even though it has magical powers such as charm, self-haste, and invisibility.

Incidentally, even Pierre Begue realized rogues sucked which is why he gave/is giving them similar magical powers in his kotc sequel. :P

I watched the video again. While still awesome, the overall speed of everything is worrying me. Character movement speed, attack speed, everything is so fast (yes, there were some AS bugs, but even with those fixed Josh said it would "a bit slower"). I know I can use slow motion, but that's only in combat, and what if I don't want everything else slowed down - just the AS?

All in all, the attack speed gave me a bit of that DA2 wipe.

I agree Grunker I think move speed is too fast. I'm going to wait and see what attack speed is like after the bugs have been fixed (3 weeks!)

We should review it during the backer beta, assuming you have access.

We'll likely get to see a stream or something from one of the events (Gamescom etc), otherwise I'm going to be doing a Let's Play with all my grognardy opinions. Should be able to upload straight to Youtube unedited with a Bandicam + Handbrake Transcoding setup.

Also, what happened to the Disengagement mechanic? Was I completely wasted, or didn't they change it to be a sort of combat lock instead of AoO's? Because from the video, I'm not sure how they plan to avoid the dumbfuckery of NWN2 AoOs after all.

There was a disengagement attack but I didn't see an animation for it. There's supposed to be a ghost of the unit, but it might not be implemented yet.

There was a disengament attack yes, but it look like it worked exactly like an AoO. As in, NWN2 dumbfuckery. I thought disengagement was changed so that when you were engaged, you were basically locked in combat unless you used an ability to escape.

How is a DA in any way different from an AoO in its current form?

Waiting for rounds that do not exist is degenerate gameplay. Embrace the fluidity of realtime.
