They might, but I think they may have already managed to get the majority of people willing to back on board, because they have run a pretty decent campaign with a good flow of cash. If people upgrade their pledge though.

edit: still, I have been consistently skeptical about all of these kickstarters and have been wrong pretty much every time, so I should expect them to cash in big time the last day.

Also I believe someone gave another $100,000 in addition to that to DFA, in addition to the Paypal stuff.

No, seriously. I hadn't heard that they put in cooldowns.

While I hate the very notion of cooldowns with a passion, I still have some hope that Cain will temper Sawyer's ideas a bit, so that we don't end up with a crappy MMO-style system in the end.

The stuff that was already posted sounds almost tolerable i.e. spell level lockout instead of per-ability cooldowns.

Glad to see it is picking up on a slow sunday, They've made 8k this with ten minutes remaining at this hour.

I wonder what percentage of the donations come from USA and the rest of the world

What was Double Fine's totals at the end of the KS+PayPal?
$3,446,371 at the end of the KickStarter, but it's hard to say what amount they got for the game in total since they have that "late backer"/Pre-Order system going: http://www.doublefine.com/dfapay/
Kind of like Wasteland 2: http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/store
No, the kickstarter total was $3,336,371. The figure above includes a couple contributions of more than $10k that were received outside of Kickstarter, but I don't think they ever had paypal as an option during the KS campaign. That started after it was over. They haven't given an exact figure for 'slacker backers', but I don't think they've gotten a huge amount from it after the fact.

Yeah DFA got like $50,000 from the guys who make Ticket-to-Ride I think, and 100,000 from people who want to taste Ron Gilbert's Ossobuco, or just get a picture of him smiling.

I'm really happy Bobby Null said that the dungeon will have a story attached to it. I was fearful for a second.

It'll be good if the Kickstarter reaches 3.1 million by the end of the day.

Do you think it has a chance to boom last 24h, so we get the second big city?

The reason I will support this is that it seems to me that it will be a IE style game, but with bigger emphasis on dialogue and skill checks. 40$ for the game and xpack is everything I have. Must give everything I have to childhood hero Tim Cain. :D

I honestly have no idea. We could be in the midst of an extended "boom" right now, or there might yet be a bigger boom ahead.

3,5 million doesn't seem that far off, PE has almost passed Wasteland 2 on the backers.

Insert clever insult here
Ah, I can live with spell level lockout, especially if its daily thing and not encounter/combat thing. If abilities/spells refresh anew for each combat, well, then the combat devolves into a fairly simple manner of brainless bashing like it was in DA and ME.

I didn't anticipate this, but I think that 3,5 million is doable now.

/prediction, making numbers up/ We are at 3.050K now. Paypal numbers might reach 130.000 (including the Codex funds and other donators from the big sites). That makes 3.180K. So we need 320K. The last 2 days is usually very strong in the bigger KS projects. We can do this.

I agree on the principle that I prefer no cooldowns in RPGs and every precedent so far has been bad, GarfunkeL, but-

I do believe you could make an actually satisfying combat system where you regenerate all HP/spells/abilities every fight as long as the fights are balanced around that system. Such a game wouldn't focus on the resource/HP management challenge but instead present a series of tactically fulfilling set piece battles. It'd be more of a tactical combat game than IE combat RPG they are making. The game I have in mind would be far more gamist, giving out ratings after every fight depending on how many abilities you used, how quickly you won the fight and how much damage your party took. Higher ratings would give you more money/XP or something like that and at the end of each "stage" you'd get an overall rating that you can strive on improving.

It's totally doable. Right now they need about 370k (Kickstarter and Paypal combined), which is about 7000 per hour. That's not a large bumb from what they're getting now.

And that's not counting the Codex fundraiser which will of course make all the difference in the world. ;)

What alternatives are there to cool downs that fit the RTwP envelope?

For example, a mana system with built-in mechanisms which prevent potion spamming (i.e. toxicity levels as seen in The Witcher, mental fatigue, limited mana potion availability etc).

That's just something off the top of my head, there are probably better systems out there.
