I don't think having LBG(no T yet?) is what people are bothered by, it's that sex of any kind is handled so badly. Like how in Dragon Age: Origins romance operates on the level of prostitution - give your followers enough shinies and they'll invariably start coming on to you. The character system is broken as a whole - as long as you keep giving them shit, your NPCs don't care what you do to other people - but when that's the case, why would also shoehorn sex into a bad system? Iirc everyone except the dwarf has a threshold at which, if you have been friendly to them, they come on to you in a less-than-subtle fashion and require several rebuttals to leave you the f alone.
Of course you can also say yes and engage in the 'romance', in which case you have to endure cringeworthy soap-opera (dialogues before the inevitable softcore rumpy-pumpy (it's mostly shots of eyes). After which, more soap-opera. The only difference in Mass Effect is that there's also aliens (maybe they're supposed to make up for the lack of trannies) and you don't even have to give them stuff, they just beg you to bend them over the nearest futuristic chest-high wall at pre-determined story junctions.

You know why you can't romance the dwarf in DA: O, or Wrex in Mass Effect? Because they're ugly.

Ah ok. that seems more understandable. i guess i misunderstood when people were adamantly against romance in this game, it's that they meant "shit romance." i haven't played the witcher, but from what i understand, it seems like nobody had any issues with how sex and romance was dealt with in that game.

i still don't like TNA in my games and i'm lucky that mods to that effect are made.

carry on.

Ahem, that very much depends on who you mean by "nobody".

Generally speaking that's more true for Witcher 2 than the first game.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. You'd be mistaken. It was quite terrible.

Witcher 2 was also terrible in regards to this issue.

Obsidian making Darklands 2, with J. E. Sawyer at the helm.
Obsidian is actually making a spiritual successor to Darklands. It is called Project Eternity.
Put a few things Saywer liked about Darklands in Eternity != spiritual successor
More like a lot.

But maybe I missed the part during the Kickstarter campaign where Obsidian said that it will resemble Darklands more than the IE games in many circumstances. Would you be so kind and point out to me where?
wait, they said that?

That seems too good to be true!

A perfect mix of IE games and Darklands.

At first I couldn't tell if you were hoping Sawyer provides the former or the latter result but on consideration it'll probably be both at once to different groups. Followed, of course, by the inevitable primate shit flinging arguing between each group.

Update by Josh Sawyer, Project Director

Welcome. Today's update is a big one, though not by volume of text. Today we’re showing you our game in action. Specifically, we're showing what we've been doing for our exterior environments. The Infinity Engine games were known for their art, and we wanted to hit the high standard of visual quality established by games like the Icewind Dale series. We also wanted to introduce dynamic elements into the environment that were mostly absent from the classic games, like dynamic water, movement in foliage, and dynamic lighting of the scene.

In a 2D game, this required our programmers and artists to come up with some creative solutions. What they came up with surprised us initially and it continues to amaze us. While we are still working on refining some of the dynamic elements, we're very happy with the progress we've been able to make and hope you feel the same way. Special thanks to Hector Espinoza, our lead environment artist, and Michael Edwards, our rendering programmer, who did a lot of amazing work to bring this environment to life.

Thanks for reading, thanks for your feedback, and we'll see you next week

I didn't know what to expect after seeing the crap that Inxile showed us. But I have to say that this demo is impressive. Very impressive. They did a great job integrating the dynamic lighting too.
