But guys, 2D is too expensive! 3D is superior in every way!
Real time 3D is actually superior to prerendered 3D. This method is however much cheaper and requires less hardware power.

If you don't want/need to rotate the camera, then prerendered 3D is probably the better choice. With normal mapping for dynamic lighting and some other 3D effects you can hardly even tell the difference.

The shittiness of most hardware (i.e consoles) dictates what people do in 3D, so "cheaper on performance" can legitimately mean "prettier for all users". And my personal experience has been that games with fixed cameras almost always look better than ones that are rotable, since all the levels in the game are built to take advantage of that angle. So in practice as opposed to theory, for this type of game, I'll take 2D every day of the week.

I love how TINY the people actually are compared to the location itself. Few games get the scale right. Gorgeous.

Project: Eternity
Two minor gripes : the vapor at the bottom of the waterfall should match the waterfall itself (and be whiter) ; and evening transition is ugly (overexposed in fact, when shadows should be blacker and colors have a red/orange tint).
Apart from that the brook drying up/overflowing is quite awesome, as are the matter effects on the bridge and the looks of the characters...

Edit : Rewatched it in better quality, and evening problem is not so obvious in fact; it may have been caused by the white cliff and statues. So my bad i guess. :salute:

So...pretty... O_O

Day - Night cycle. Floating lights. The music is great, very atmospheric and meshes very well with environmental sounds.
Water!
And characters look very good too.

Looks Fantastic, where is Your 3D is superior now Consoltartated knaves?
It looks fantastic because there is a load of 3D effects in the scene, i.e. the 3D models (characters), normal mapped dynamic lighting, fog/water effects and whatever I forgot.

The Background is just prerendered 3D and not real time 3D, which is good for performance, although it limits the scaling and camera rotation (=none). Works great for an isometric IE-style game though, Obsidian made a wise choice.

Yeah, it would be really cool to see some quests make use of that drying up/overflowing (or oh god this will never happen, but using tech like this to show the passing of seasons, a brook in summer being dried up, et cetera) without coming off as gimmicky.

My erection has settled and I can think again.
My only critique is the moving parts of foliage. Looks blurry.

I think the fapping must have gotten to your eyes :)

We're still experimenting with tree/bush movement. Too much and it looks really fake and obnoxious but if it's too subtle, it doesn't really help the scene.

This is fantastic! I just hope that this gorgeous game won't now disappoint with future updates. And here I mean that it won't be dumbed down and popamoled. And that they will make setting interesting.
