Holy fuck! Just finished my job and watched the video. It's amazing. Who needs 3D?
The scene is loaded with 3D effects actually. Looks great on the prerendered background.
Well, of course it is, but they're just effects. And tbh I don't mind 3D at all. I just liked what they did with 2.75D in this video.

It looks awesome but I do have one thing that I don't like in it. Particle effect at the bottom of waterfall is slightly too dark and because of it looks like more smoke than a cloud.

Jebus Fucking Christ, I wonder if they'll implement weather effects. Can you fucking imagine raindrops falling into the water, with strong wind blowing the fuck out of this bushes... Maybe it's not that hard, those flora animations are pretty subtle (simplistic).

Also, I want snow and flammable environments. And a ponny.

I'm trying to find some way to be pissed off about this... but I can't. All this awesome stuff recently is messing with my head. :?

Nice job Obsidian. Now just make an equally impressive game.

Did Obsidian take Infinitron's suggestion? Because I have the strong urge to upgrade my pledge after seeing that video.

Insert clever insult here
Holy shit that looks gorgeous. Step aside, ToEE, you've met your match. Especially loving the character models, the slim rapier, the hefty looking axe the dorf is carrying, plus the animations look nice.

The little canoe/boat stands out annoyingly, though, maybe something to do with (lack of?) shadows. It's also a little difficult to see whether the will-o-wisp is behind or infront of the statues, when it flew up, as there's little to help depth of perception. And yeah, the foam/steam/vapours of the waterfall look very artificial. But that's all minor niggles. Excellent job, Obsidian!

The height mapping stuff and the day->night color transitions look cool

I'd kinda like to see them doing pitch black night with those nice individual light sources instead of video game dim. I guess that would necessitate a bunch of mechanics and some gameplay "language" questions.

Looks good. 3d will never compare to 2d that's been touched up by a real artist.

And Sawyer was kinda' cool in this video, not his usual smug self.

Sorry guise, but this looks generic as fuck. It's NWN2 all over again.

There's no atmosphere statement whatsoever. Compare to The Witcher's early concept art:

conceptart80.jpg

11-11_the_witcher.jpg

conceptart29.jpg

conceptart28.jpg

That last one is a Caspar David Friedrich painting, you know.

Yeah, those poles had no idea what they were doing, getting inspired by perhaps the most atmospheric painter in the history of mankind. Clueless fuckers.

So that said, enjoy your +1 generic fantasy RPG. The Codex. The Codex never changes...

PS: Who's Fretty?
Witcher 1 had grorious concept art and inspired locations, yes.

And so far PE doesn't seem terribly non-generic.

Although Witcher-verse is essentially a fully intentional and successfull subversion of Tolkien-derivative generic fantasy crap, so it *can't* be horribly original.
Sapkowski being an all around douche notwithstanding.

I liked everything except the running animation at the start. That looked kinda weird. The walking was much better.

I am so glad that walking is in. In many recent games you cannot walk, only run and this is really annoying.
