It's great how far I've come. I got ganked by 3 klingons all by my lonesome out in the Kerrat open PVP thing. Little did they know that my escort is DEAD ARD AND READY TA STOMP. Even with all three of them pewpewing me with all their might they couldn't kill me, much less get me below 50% hull. I couldn't take out the fatty cruiser in their group, but if I managed to line up on a little ship before the fucker could cloak I could rape the shit out of 'em. Only managed two little ship kills due to all the tractor beams and black holes and space gas shit harshing my space mellow (With them flying back after respawning apparently) before the map ran out of time, but it was still a kick to see how durable I am now.

I've been mildly tempted to start a klingon a few times. Unfortunately, if I played klingon I'd probably want to be a small ship cloaking asshole which sounds distressingly similar to buzzing around in my escort on fed, so I've been avoiding it. I guess I could go fat cruiser for klingon, but eh.

Two things I have discovered while wandering around Bajor space.

1. While they are totally worthless for Diplo xp (seriously, 10...that's it?), I do enjoy some of the diplomacy missions. The investigation to determine the guilt of the Cardassian Civil Defense Force member was great fun. Reviewing evidence and then working things out made for a nice departure.

2. I loved zooming around with my Danube-class shuttle. Before embarking on Operation GAMMA I slapped in the Aegis equip and a few other choice bits and wandered into a Terran Empire deep space encounter for practice. It shredded their Frigates and Light Cruisers, and then I kept hammering away at the weakened shields of other player's targets. This poor Odyssey player, I kept buzzing him whenever I got bored waiting for him to get to the next group.

Got my first piece of that Dominion ship set. Dunno if it'll replace Aegis. Probably not.

New update note excerpt:

  • Changed rewards for "Sell Slaves to Orions" assignment to reward Gold-Pressed Latinum.
  • Changed requirements for "Purchase Slaves from Orions" assignment.
  • Changed "Tribble Bounty" assignment to reward Gold-Pressed Latinum.
Oh, why does this game tempt me so?

The update notes still have some small lulz hidden among them, which I find endearing:

  • Resolved an issue with the Andorian Cultural Exchange duty officer assignment.
    • A Klingon somehow snuck into the program - I would expect that from a Romulan, but a Klingon? Very disappointing.

He obviously felt that by understanding other races, he could kill them more efficiently.

Well, there was also this a month ago:

  • The Qo'noS contact who sold ship consoles for Dilithium changed his name to Weachug.
    • Apparently he had a small bout of amnesia and was going by the name Mayerteac.
  • One dilithium vendor on Qo'noS, K'Tarl, was undercutting his competitors by illegal amounts for very rare endgame gear.
    • He has been taken before the high council and reprimanded for engaging in illicit barter.
      • In accordance with Klingon law, his prices have been adjusted.

I am leveling a Klingon now, I can understand why Kerrat have plenty of them as the Klingon Kerrat (and I do mean that, its exactly the same as Kerrat) is buggier and more broken and its just easier to let the Feds to beat the instance since you just get payed to be there, also they get payed to kill players so its very much a win-win.

And Multi-Headed Cow ... A Bird-of-Prey have a turn rate that makes most things look to be standing still, its a ship that allows you to engage at will when you want and if you want most of the time, the Federation Escorts come closer to the Raptor as it pack a much stronger punch but a BoP Alpha Strike can be devastating.

Here's IKS Narhumar.

Do you see this ship? It is made of evil, and treachery...and Vaarna used it to repeatedly kick my ass in ways not even the Klingons have names for. I would show you the aftermath pictures of the U.S.S. Aquaelie, but they've been banned in seven sectors for excessive brutality.

I won four out of sixteen matches with this thing. One because Vaarna's auto-fire wasn't working right. Then he hit his stride, and when I responded by calling in Fleet Support he died an honorable death. Then the next time killed me *and* the ship that responded. At that point I became practice for his coup de grace combo. When that wasn't enough he called in a Bird of Prey to help the beatdown, because "Hey, you started it :3 ."

Filthy Nausicaan, I'll have my revenge in a rematch someday. You glorious bastard!

I'll upgrade my equipment, and then...he'll have probably done the same. With better stuff than mine.

Hmm.:hmmm:

:yeah:
Have been playing a bit less lately, though I still hop on and buzz around the universe scooping up diplomatic duty officer missions since I wanna be able to access Klingon space and have first contact missions for some goddamn reason. Also been doing the new episodes as they're released. Getting a purple and two blue duty officers, and a purple jem'hadar tactical bridge officer was kinda cool.

1) Your bridge officers are the single most defining aspect of your ship.
2) On Ground, the game lies to you about class purposes, in reality: Tactical is Rogue, Engineer is Wizard, Science is Fighter
3) It's important to have Bridge Officer abilities that recharge your shields, namely Science Team and Emergency Power To Shields.
4) Similarly, having a hull repair ability or two is important, namely in the form of Engineering Team.
5) Post your username (exact letters, commas, spaces, whatever) and charname (exact, again) here, then someone will send you a friend invite (though you should send friend invites to everyone anyway), fleet invite and chat channel invite.

Wise words. Also add that the bridge stations on the ship make a big difference. I learned this the hard way at about level 20, when I dismissed my Andorian tactical officer (sacrificing torpedo double fire) to get a Human who has a nice 3rd ability, which was completely useless because my ship only had a Lieutenant tactical station, since his first 2 abilities are about as useful as pissing when confronted with a D'deridex warbird.

Also, you can swap abilities easily by going to Earth Space Dock or any other major hub. Only the higher level skills have choices you can only acquire from other BOs/Captain Training.

Well shucks, there goes my plan to stock up on Jem'Hadar BOs and sell them for millions a few months later.

There are over 9000 Codexers. You'd think more bros would bring the BRO back to Starfleet and KDF.

Anyway, we gotta organize some STF running. I for one am dying to get my grubby hands on Elite Honor Guard costume pieces with Skar.

I'm still having lots of fun with this, but I'm pretty close to finishing up a university degree, I have to work to pay the bills and I have a lovely wife who keeps me otherwise distracted, so I've not been online that often. It's very nice that you can play this game in small, successive doses (doing one or two quests per session) and still progress enough for it to feel worthwhile continuing. Hats off to STO. I keep telling my SWTOR-paying friends that they're getting shafted and should play this instead. :P
