There's yet another lottery box coming on 12.4. but there's nothing yet on what it'll have...some have murmured about Andorian ship, which would be big "Fuck you" toward FED players playing Andorian captain.

Nah, it's not gonna be the Andorian ship, since they can only put "neutral" ships in Lockboxes. Andorian ships for KDF would get vetoed by CBS in a heartbeat. Most likely it's gonna be the Ferengi ship they've show pictures of.

Since my TOR subscription is just about up and I haven't really played for the last week or so I'll probably be coming back to STO soon to continue the ongoing adventures of the USS Sergyar. I've got something like 110k dilithium stockpiled IIRC so I'll probably buy 2 more character slots and start making an engineering captain. Tacticool with escort is neat, but I'm looking forward to trying a fat tanky cruiser. STO is so goddamn better than TOR, probably should've spent that $20 buying mirror universe uniforms so I could be a cool dude instead of on TOR.
And since it's always screenshot time, my last STO screenshot. That's not how borg talk! THAT'S NOT HOW BORG TALK AT ALL!

God I wish EVE could do close up nebula like that. Instead we get stuck with radioactive eyebleed that fucks with the UI when we get nebula in sites.

By the way would be playing this but I've been having too much fun blowing up shit in EVE. Moved out to null recently, it's a fuckton of fun and a fuckton of profit.

Had to Google that, didn't watch much Voyager, but anyway still looks fucking nice and not at all eye bleedingly awful like the EVE nebula are. I'll post a screenshot tomorrow or something. Baby in arms is not suitable to playing EVE.

WTF dude, have you even launched EVE recently? It looks much much better than the shit StarTrek shoves in your face and calls it space.

Also, you don't go to nebulas in missions, escalations, exploration sites or anything else. You get some localized effects there and CCP is working on better ones. Although I agree that entering shit like Sansha Minefiled looks horribad.

Sorry I apologize, Yaar, the localized site based GAS CLOUD's which are not in fact nebula's, but rather localized site based gas clouds spawned in an instanced based manner, similar in manner to the effects seen in Hoax Metal's screen shots of fluidic space, are utterly fucking horrible in the majority.

I'll still refer to them as nebula effects, because all a nebula is is a big cloud of gas and particles.

But yeah the actual nebula's in EVE are pretty bamf, and I fucked up on proper terming, I just don't really know what to call those things, space particle fields sounds really obtuse, and atmospheric effects seemed a bit wonky to use.

Yeah, gas clouds suck ass. Recon 3/3 also. BUT they are working on it. I think couple of weeks ago there was some stuff on SiSi but then it disappeared.

EVE dudes are never upset. We just *rabble rabble rabble* about inaccurate reporting. We are cool guys most of the time, see:

This interview is rather interesting, and makes this point rather well, http://eve-radio.com/news-compendium/eve-radio/1616-funkybacon-deals-with-mittani-podcast

It's also the most accurate perspective I've seen on the whole media debacle that went down in regards to a scandal that recently popped up at CCPs big con.

That whole affair was stupid, GoonSwarm doesn't go ten seconds without saying something worse. Tempbanning Mittani for acting like a Goon while representing GoonSwarm at the Alliance Panel of all places is absurd.

In what sense? Don't tell me someone on the Codex is offended by the language used by GoonSwarm. 0.0 is about war - when it isn't a NAPfest, anyway - not being friendly or PC, and it's what makes EVE fascinating. It could certainly be improved, but it offers something no other MMO provider has had the balls to do so far. If you want friendly camraderie and a welcoming atmosphere there's plenty of that in EVE Uni or RvB. Just don't look for it in nullsec.

Just hearing that kind of stuff happen, and know of the CCP is in bed with Goons, only means that CCP are lowlifes on par with them and deserve to go under. Hard.

Are you confusing the Goons with BoB? Because BoB died a long time ago, and unlike them CCP has never been in bed with GoonSwarm. I'm not sure how that would make them 'lowlifes', either. Are you referring to the fact that a GoonSwarm member was on the CSM? He was elected by the players because he was the best candidate for the job, CCP had no say in that. The people who present on the Alliance Panel are alliance representatives, and GoonSwarm is a large alliance, so there's nothing unusual about them having a presentation, though I doubt they'll be presenting again for the next year or two after this. I'm not really sure what your argument is, here. It appears to be, "I don't like GoonSwarm, and they play EVE, and CCP makes EVE, therefore CCP is evil and deserves to die in a fire."

The argument is that vast majority of all stories like this one for MMOs come from one source nowadays: EVE. All word-of-mouth is the same: EVE has the shittiest MMO community ever. Similarly, word is that several devs are Goons.

It's the argument that EVE has a good and friendly community that fails, simply because it seems to be completely unable to surface, much less do anything about all the nasty shit that goes on.

CCP also dropped the ball completely in this particular scandal: Permanent bans should have been tossed liberally, not wrist-slaps and half-hearted "apologies" that only express condoning the kind of shit that's going on.

Ah, I see, you share a common misconception with a lot of people who don't play EVE. There are three security regions in EVE, Highsec, Lowsec, and Nullsec. Highsec is where all the carebears (PvEers) hang out, and they're perfectly friendly and amiable people who will happily pop rats and do whatever else it is that PvEers do. In Highsec if you attack another player, CONCORD intervenes and - when someone isn't abusing something to avoid them - instagibs your ship within ~30 seconds. Lowsec, when it isn't dead, is home to the pirates and small gang roamers who set up small bases and will generally kill you as soon as look at you. They prey on carebears who wander into lowsec and squabble over small pieces of territory with realatively little value. No CONCORD to save anyone there.

Then we have Nullsec. Nullsec has no rules, and is where players build empires and fight wars for territory and resources to build the armadas needed for holding said territory. Nullsec is what you 'hear about' when you hear anything about EVE, because it's where everything interesting happens. Nullsec actually makes up a fairly small portion of the EVE population, there are a lot more carebears in highsec than there are nullsec players, but because nullsec does everything interesting all the news is always about them, and they aren't polite people. They're sort of like GD, except they're allowed to kill each other and destroy each other's stuff along with troll each other on the forums. In other words, EVE's 'community' is not one monolithic blob, and you're essentially judging the Codex solely by GD. Admittedly, a much more awesome and entertaining version of GD, but the analogy holds.

Mittani definitely did not deserve a permanent ban here. He said something offensive - wow. Who cares? Should everyone who says something offensive on the Codex get permabanned, too? The reason you hear all this 'news' about EVE is because the Devs aren't into censorship or telling players what they can and can't do, as it should be. They provide the game world and let players do whatever they want in it.

I am curious, though - exactly what kind of 'shit' do you believe is 'going on'?

CCP is in bed with the players, all players. Goonswarm and the CFC(Anything in the north-east on the daily sov map) just represent a very large and vocal portion of their customer base. When people are vocal they tend to get involved, this is why places like WoW have such quality endgames. Raiders are the focuspoint of WoW because they are the most active and involved portion. On any given server you've got at least 25 people trying to run dungeons and those numbers add up. More than that, these people tend to be vocal in recruitment.

I actually started playing EVE because of a goon, and I actually have come to hate and respect goons for what they do. But they are the most vocal and seriously the largest faction in the game able to put forward a concerted face.

In any case, EVE is a pure social game, really. Without friends you can't do anything. Mittani's slip up here was a drunk person being drunk at an event with other drunken people, the only reason it got much attention, was because of the Metagame, and the social aspect. IE a PL asshole sending the link to eurogamer of him answering a leading question while drunk, the email was also worded in such a way as to incite as much drama as possible. He totally crossed the line and he admits it.

If you dislike what the goons/Mittani are doing, muster together a coalition of at least 12,000 people and fucking get CCP to pay attention, they did it with the old NC, they did it with BoB, now they are doing it with the CFC. Like it or not, but 12,000 fans can actually make things possible that wouldn't otherwise. CCP has always listened when people got together and raised their voices high though the general den of "EV SURKS I'M GONA GO BARCK TO PLAYING "FURIT OF THER WEEK" THIS IS TOO COMPRICATED UND ERYONE IS EH DIRK."

Actually the majority of EVE players, are friendly to you if you are friendly to them. I've gotten entire gank fleets of 20 or so people to leave systems by honestly being nice and a little humorous.

Stories about cyberbullying and IRL bullying told by ex-EVE players show up in every commentary on EVE articles on Massively and most other sites nowadays. Apparently Mittani is already coordinating massive raiding of one of the HighSec systems for his return.

Mittani didn't say something that was merely offensive. He publicly told people that they should drive some poor bastard into IRL suicide. There's a world of difference between doing that and posting retarded stuff in /gd/ (oxymoron, any post in /gd/ is retarded). If anything, Mittani did irreparable PR damage to EVE by publicly displaying such sociopathic behaviour with a glee (and being drunk is no excuse, in Finland we say a person shows their true colors when drunk), and from any sane business perspective a perma-ban would be in order... But CCP does not run a sane and responsible business but instead condones this kind of psychopath behaviour.

If people like Goons are supposed to be the minority... How come their leader was elected community representative? How come there's no anti-Goon alliance hunting them if majority of players don't approve? At least on the Codex the offensive people on GD are public laughingstock and an obvious minority. Vocal and obnoxious, but minority nonetheless. Same can't be said about EVE. It's not like we have voted Andhaira or Lyric Suite as the official spokesperson of the Codex, or even GD.
