I actually was less impressed by the story(telling) and atmosphere at the beginning - partly because of too much side content diluting the main narrative, first Ori was more focused.
Around Wellspring it really does find its own pace, though. :salute:

am I the only one who finds it jarring that natural spirit who mostly ran away in previous game now dark souls bosses with lightsabre and machinegun bow?

I thought the story beats were too similar too. I don't buy the "time to be sad" cutscenes anymore (like the Shriek backstory). What was beautiful in the first game becomes redundant and robbed of meaning when they try to do the exact same thing again while pretending it's brand new. Have they got no new tricks, story wise, thematically or tonally?
I am less far in than you, but from what I have seen there seems to be a lot of parallels with what would the fate of Nibel have been if Ori didn't succeed in the first game. I guess exploring that is a valid (back) story to tell.
Haven't seen Shriek's backstory cutscenes yet, but Ori seems to work better with "time to sad" themes most of the time. I was slightly less pleased with the mid-early game atmosphere (though not the locations - those are superb), to be honest.

I agree, though that seemed more jarring during the development and in trailers than in actual gameplay.
Do note that apart from any encounter with
Kuro
mid to late Ori and The Blind Forest combat was mostly "stomp stomp stomp done". Ori really became a cute little powerhouse later on. Plus I guess it's building up towards the ending (which I speculated on and later got spoiled confirming my speculations).

i bought the game on sale, played a bit and asked a refound. i was not having fun at all with spam key , move to dodge "combat" ( there is no actual combat ). the jump seemed unreliable and found the game boring

That Xbox One S performance is atrocious. Doesn't matter to me as a PC guy, but if they're gonna say that machine will play all the new games for years yet then they have to actually have the fucking things run well enough to play. "Halo 6 is on Xbox One S at 720p, 20fps! We're still supporting the S!"

Seriously now, playing Ori for combat is like watching porn for dialogue.
Completely missing the fucking point.

I believe I have seen this particular cutscene and it didn't do it for me as well.

The rest seems pretty solid so far, though, maybe apart from all the side crap in Wellspring Glades seriously diluting the pacing.
Also, is it just me or the game is much easier than the first one?

I mean I have beaten the first one on hard several times, but platforming is less influenced by difficulty setting and it seems easier to me.
Maybe Mount Horu changes people.

There is a certain escape sequence in this game that gets close to being obnoxious, because it's so fucking hard. That was aggravating.

Otherwise the game is not that hard for me either.

The last map going up to the last boss is the only challenging part platforming wise. Other than that it was easier than the first game, but still very much enjoyable

Also, that worm escape sequence was one of the most infuriating things ever.
Is there any difference in escape sequences depending on difficulty (apart from hazards damage)?

I am nearing the end on normal (which seems too ez) and even with shitty burrow controls worm escape wasn't terribly hard. Not "first try" easy and it does get some adrenaline pumping, but still easy enough.

Also Shriek doesn't resonate with me so far, sorry Moon folks.

Would be nice to see another metroidvania with this level of budget where the primary attack is not a melee attack.

Ok.
It is done.
I'm kind of happy that I have played on normal, after all even though it was too easy for 95% of the game.
But if I had to beat that final boss on hard I'd aafazgl dfsjlmkm blbf $#gf4g4@6!_?

The final boss didn't seem especially difficult to me.
Bwuh? Especially the very last section was hard as nails.

Speaking of which, my mouse is only glowing dull red now, so it seems to be cooling down.

I wonder, what abilities did people use? I found half of them to be kind of useless.
Such as? All semed potentially useful depending on circumstances and playstyle.

On an unrelated note:
Ori 1 and Ori 2 are pretty much like Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 in regards to their relative strengths and weaknesses.

I thought the sand worm was harder than the final level.

Final level was hard for sure, but I was not nearly smashing my controller at the wall in fury like that escape sequence. I played the game on hard, if it makes any difference.

I thought the sand worm was harder than the final level.
But sandworm was fairly easy even with shitty burrow controls on KB+M. They didn't even line edges of the sand tunnels with instakill spikes or nonmnomy maws. It was hard enough to get the adrenaline pumping and maybe kill you a few times, but that's it.

Meanwhile at the end of last boss I was screaming at walls at some point.

I guess things don't seem hard to me unless I find them frustrating, but I don't think it was really that hard. I suppose the attacks weren't so easy to dodge at first?
The final aerial segment was "you've got to be fucking kidding me". Plus attrition from near dodges piled up at some point unless your dodging was absolutely perfect.

Well, in particular, I found Spirit Edge to be completely worthless after getting Spirit Smash, and that's already available very early in the game.
But Spirit Smash is slo and thus very circumstantial. I usually had both equipped, but mostly used edge unless I knew I could land a good hit or a stomp.

Blaze/Flash/Sentry just didn't seem interesting enough to even bother trying to use. I had Smash and Regenerate bound for most of the game, so that left only one button, and I wasn't going to use something that wasn't a ranged attack or an ability I needed for a particular area.
Sentry was useful with regenerate to keep enemies company or when you needed to focus completely on movement. Flash was necessary in darkness and it scored free hits on enemies trying to get into melee range. I think it contributed greatly to the outcome of that spider fight for me. I didn't use the 'nade much, but it can be very powerful.

Well, I guess they're all more useful on lower difficulties, but the damage Edge did for me seemed pretty weak. I don't think Smash was very circumstantial at all, considering I used it for most of the game.
It's much weaker but reliable way of causing damage. Personally I'm not up to the task of hitting fast moving airborne target in mid jump with a massive slo hmmr - you?
Of course, if you have hmmr (equipped) and can hmmr, then hmmr.

Yes, Flash was needed for darkness, of course, but aside from that I couldn't find a good use for it most of the time. I mean, I suppose those abilities aren't actually useless, but I didn't find them to be fun and they didn't seem to be worth equipping over projectiles.
If projectiles are worth equipping they get equipped. Flash seemed to work well for spider fight.

I've already finished it. It's amazing, but the last part and some bosses are real big difficulty spike. Movement feels great, abilities are interesting and varied, world is even prettier than in the first one. Music and sound is great. My 3yr old loved watching me play.

Apparently the ending has triggered a massive avalanche of intense butthurt.
:incline:

Skipped Ori 1 because I read it didn't have combat. Skipping Ori 2 because it's a wangblows 10 exclusive.

The what now? It's a platformer with enemies that you kill.

Valky is one google search away from being retarded.
Works fine on W7.
