My complaint wasn't about difficulty, which was never an issue to begin with, but the whole thing being out of place in Ori. You can easily google boss fights in Blind forest vs. Will of the Wisp to see the fundamental difference
in how both games approach this.

I don't see how learning the timing for a boss fight is really any different from learning the timing for platforming. git gud lmao
Yeah, it's all about mashing teh rite buttons, amirite? Doesn't matter what you play, a fighting game, a platformer or an arcade racer.
So, you're saying if I wanted a medium rare steak and instead got a burger, it doesn' reallyt matter cause it's all the same, lolz? Food is food.

I gave up at second real boss outside real tutorial... so clunky... Last boss (the beetle) was relatively easy, but dat damn platforming.... I knew I shouldn't have preordered, but maybe it will grow with me once I git gud.

There are no conventional boss battles other than some minibosses in OatBF, only escape sequences.
In OatWotW you have both, often intertwined. They actually fit thematically better than I was worried they would.

If it's any consolation the first two are the worst and the most repetitive (and the first one is actuall quite hard due to improvised weapon you have), it only gets better after that point.

To elaborate - I was very worried about thematic shift implied by going more combat-centric, but it seems to fit what they were trying to go for.

The most disappointing part is less cohesion and generally weaker storytelling (though the ending stands strong).
It's a bit like FO2 after FO1.

I got this on a sale like over a week ago, yesterday I finally wanted to give it a spin...

... turns out there was a patch three days ago that broke the fucking game and now it refuses to start :neveraskedforthis:

I played Ori 1. I found it competently designed, surprising gaemplay-oriented and engaging, but then I stopped playing around 50% progress. I wasn't sure why as it is pretty solid, so I gave it some thought:

soundtrack possibly plays a factor. good I guess but a little overrated, or just not to my taste.
upgrade system is also weak shit. More of a progression tool for teaching the player the mechanics over time but the choices are barely relevant.
player chaacter grunts also slightly annoy me, but it should barely be a factor
I guess the combat isn't that great (not bad either), but the game is more a platformer anyway
perhaps it's the environments. they're mostly all a variation of cave or wooded area. yet there's still a lot of variety and they're all absolutely beautiful to look at
must be all of the above

Whatever the case I certainly recommend the game, but don't consider it top-tier. I should have completed it but I think by this point I've just played too many games, and too many metroidvanias.

Still curious about Ori 2 too, since people are saying it's better ITT.

Still better than your life choices to become a fucking furry.

FWIW Unreal Evolution's recoil upgrades are a small part of a larger system, which does indeed have many highly relevant choices. Recoil upgrades are micro choices and intended to be as such.

Been playing this for a few days, I'm about to drain the swamp at the big watermill. Game is pretty great, might even be better than the first one, though I have yet to see something as spectacoolar as the flooding tree escape.

Is there any information about whether an "enhanced edition" will ever come out? I'm sure it will, since that's the trend for most games lately (indie or not).

Although the theme and vibe are not to my taste, the visuals in these games are tremendous, probably the best in several categories right now. Any word on what the developer's next project is?

I so want more games like Ori - metroidvanias with emphasis on environment traversal and not too much combat. Sadly I don't see anything like that :(

Have you played Knytt: Underground? No combat here, and you can transform as a ball to bouce around to reach higher places.

Or the Alwa's games? (Awakening and Legacy) There is little combat and only a handful of bosses, it's more about finding secrets and combining spells to solve puzzles and reach places.

I have Knytt in my library, just 45mins of playtime and I can't recall it at all. Something must have put me off, but I'll try.

I recently tried Never Alone, Gris, and Planet Alpha - all looked like they might be similar to Ori, but turned a walking simulator with a trivial puzzle trown here and there. Style over substance, the lot of them.

I'll give a try to Alwa, though this kind of pixel graphics is rather off-putting (which is one of the reasons I didn't like Celeste).

Edit:
Alwa's Awakening does not seem like my kind of game. I really can't stand 8-bit nostalgia. Metroidvanias are so much nicer with smooth scrolling instead of discrete screens. The music is nice, but the sprites are rather meh. Controls don't feel bad, but they don't click as well as Ori with me (this is after 15mins of playtime, so maybe I'll change my mind).

Played Alwa's Legacy for an hour. It's not as tight or as good looking as Ori, but it is quite good. 16bit-style graphics are easier to stomach than 8 bit as well. Thanks for the recommendation Momock!
