Anyone else experiencing huge mysterious damage spikes? It's totally random. Like i can facetank uber empreh with full hp and when he's ded and there only some stragglers left my hp is suddenly drops from 5k to ~400. I mean i'm jugg in heavy armor with 7 endurance charges. You can't just remove 5k hp from jugg.

That is just Path of Exile being Path of Exile.
I run ultra defensive jugg to point where i barely make damage and even with maxed out everything i can you are playing this "immortal" facetank until some trash mobs just one shots you for some reason.

GGG hating melee is meme at this point. I think Chris openly said one time on some podcast he would wish to implement mode in which monsters had more hp and less damage to slow down it.
But hey you need to chase that dolla from chinese.

I think the other problem being that GGG balance the game according to streamers, not the player base; that's why you get shit like it being perfectly legal to ALT+F4 just before dying, which will stop your character from actually dying.

Being a jugger with full charges doesn't mean much when it comes to elemental damage or chaos damage spikes. The game requires you to know what type of damage each enemy deals and what skills it has. The #1 defense in general is a high health pool. + Max res for elemental reduction and a means for physical reduction combined with that and you will pretty much be immortal - as long as you avoid chaos damage spikes (which are very, very rare) and bosses that that debuff you or hit you for extreme amounts of damage (e.g. minotaur).

Jugg has 5% reduced damage taken + 8% reduced elemental damage taken while at full endurance charges.
Just run Saffel's + triple purity and balanced resists for Wise Oak + 3 normal elemental flasks. Don't forget flask effectiveness. Also fortify and Dread Banner. Then use Brass Dome so you take no extra damage from critical strikes and Veruso's Battering Rams so you can never be shocked (of course you can't use CWDT IC with this or you can still get shocked).

I picked the game back up for Betrayal and I've been having a blast. The last time I played before this was years ago, when there were only three acts. To say that the amount of new content was overwhelming is an understatement... but in a good way. There's shitloads to do, and it's pretty great. Just gotten to the point of doing low tier (IV) maps now. Molten Strike Chieftain, Betrayal League.

Got my first ever Exalted Orb today... which let me completely change my gear just like that. Crazy how one drop can give you such a huge jump.

Also, holy mother of powercreep, the locked mods on items may take crafting (that is already very powerful) to a new dimension of obscene. Well, maybe not strictly more powerful, but the super high levels of power should be easier to acquire.

No melee anything was pretty expected. I don't thin they will do anything other than balance changes to melee until 4.0 which is supposed to be mega update that will rework animations models textures engine etc.

What annoys me though that this is ANOTHER speed meta league.

New league looks alright. Not particularly amazing, but like it could be a fun romp without huge metagaming complexity.
Synthesizing into random stuff is going to suck until someone makes a table.

As expected betrayal is made standard, but I still think this is a bit sad because I don't like it. Oh well.
What annoys me though that this is ANOTHER speed meta league.
Speed league > boss league every day.

Some much needed upgrades for self-casting (hopefully melee will be next on the overhaul-list for 3.7) and more importantly alternatives to trigger-casting. Bane might be a decent alternative to blasphemies/CoH setups and depending on how wave of conviction works, it might be worth picking up on all characters, not just casters. In general it seems like a move towards not just having 1 skill for everything, but weaving in other abilities that apply debuffs/curses to create some more involved gameplay, which is always nice.

The new flask looks absolutely fucking busted.

i wish GGG would slow down on the clusterfuck content upgrades they are spitting out and instead put more ressources into balancing and changing mechanics that are already there (melee ect)

tbh as a filthy (rich) casual, i am overwhelmed by the sheer amount of new stuff they spit out.

i got the feeling that after a certain point, less is more and fine tuning existing mechanics and content can be more valuable than brining new stuff into the already bloated core game.

Well they said it in last 24 hours. Also Chris said that in future some of the content will be excluded from new leagues. This was yesterday.

We try to focus on one area of balance with each major expansion to address that area as thoroughly as we can. Around the time that we started scoping 3.6.0, handcasting and lack of powerful spell variety were big topics both in the community and in our design discussions. We feel that the changes in 3.6.0 greatly improve the spellcasting situation and are very much looking forward to your feedback on these when you get to play the expansion.

As for melee, it's certainly on our radar and is likely to be the focus of 3.7.0 balance work. The design team have some good ideas that I'm quite excited about.

Melee is on the block for 3.7, and I for one appreciate them doing it bit by bit but indepth, instead of half-assing everything at once. Sucks for melee, but if the self-cast overhaul is a good one, melee definitely has plenty of stuff to look forward to.

One interesting tidbit is that Chris was talking about GGG trying to keep ~10 league mods in the game and phasing out less relevant/boring ones eventually, most likely with the next big expansion. The league-mechanic bloat we currently have is definitely a rough thing on newcomers to the game, and plenty of old league-mechanics just feel pretty boring at this point. Strongboxes used to be beloved, but when do you ever engage with them unless its a diviner anymore.

I'm pretty sure they're just trying to create more leagues that people can engage with fully, so someone who only wants to Delve or do Temples can do so, while older league mechanics aren't that involved and are just a side-dish to the main-game.

They can't, because they will die without it. Look at the player numbers in relation to the age of a league.

Zealotry is a new holy themed aura that provides more spell damage, a small increase to spell critical chance, and a chance to create Consecrated Ground on hitting a rare or unique enemy. As Consecrated Ground now increases the chance to be critically hit on enemies within it, this further increases your critical chance. The aura works well with the improved Inquisitor Ascendancy, which has some new effects for Consecrated Ground like letting the Consecrated Ground continue to apply its effects for a few seconds after you, allies or enemies leave its zone.
