Okay, the House is not THAT bad so far.
Knurly witch was easy.
Worm-man wasn't, but in the end there's no cheese damage reduction. Sirocco is pretty cool, shame I have it only on orc-boi.
Wild hunt crystal spam is the worst part, but so far it's manageable.
Still have to find Amiri.

Damn, when was the last time a thread for a good game grew to 500 pages?

Anyway, I failed a willpower check and bought it. Here's hoping I don't run into major issues. What difficulty is recommended? I gravitate towards what would be Core Rules in the old IE games.

IMHO if you plan to play with the included companions, then go maximum at challenging. They are badly built, exept 1 or 2 of them. And the curve of difficulty goes something like, very punishing at start if you have no idea of what you are doing (and no meta knowledge of available spells/items/quests), easy mid game, and back to hard in the last part.

I was wondering how this game didn't suffer the fate of Siege of Dragonspear but now I see it will. Goblins are slowly coming out from their dens.
Are you seriously retarded enough to imply that muh soggy knees or some horseshit excuse like that is somehow responsible for the failure of Siege of Dragonqueer?
It was in here. 75% of posters focused on few SJW stuff (and on that shitty writer girl that was fired soon after and her Minsc shit removed) , while 25% focused on nice AI and well designed encounters.

P:KM has more SJW stuff than SoD did, even with being a much bigger game. At least in SoD you didn't have a gay or bi romance with anyone, that alone beats any SJW content in SoD that got goblins over here so riled up.
Are you seriously comparing Siege of fucking Dragonspear with this game?

I've played the Enhanced Edition of BG1 and BG2, and I did it with all of the new companions, and I was full of hope that they would be reasonably well-written, prior.

Every aspect of everything new in those games turned out to be utterly shit. The background art for the new levels was hideous; the characters were terrible in every way, badly-written, out-of-place, just awful; the ret-conning of existing characters' personalities to please the new writers' political agenda was embarrassing; the quests were boring and predictable.

There is nothing in any of the Enhanced Editions that is worthwhile or comparable to the source material, and SoD is more of the same dogshit.

There's more creativity and brilliance in ten minutes of Kingmaker than there is in the entirety of any material that Beamdog has put out. The fact that this game is pretty much adored here, despite having some progressive content, should tell you as much.

Put down the ideological goggles and wake up, EE/SoD is shit, Kingmaker is not.

Companions are dealable-withable, you just have to optimize for their stats. Valerie is good if you play to her Cha/Con by taking all Cha-based fighter debuffs, and take Stalwart Defender levels, Octavia makes a good AT (which are broken), Harrim's Dex is low but he is otherwise a decent fighty-Cleric (and Clerics are great anyway), Regongar is fine once he can use medium armor, Jubilost is good because Alchemists are borderline broken, and Ekun and Nok-Nok are pretty optimized with crazy high Dex scores.

Come on dude, stop shilling for Kingmaker. Seriously, just by the things mentioned in this thread the writting in Kingmaker is HORSESHIT and it has more faggots/SJWs in it than a democrat gathering in Hollywood.

Seriously, even SoD is leagues ahead of it on that department, and you know it. You just won't admit it to yourself, you are in denial.

As for gameplay, SoD never pretended to be a brand new game, it was always just some more levels on top of a 1999 game... Comparing it to a brand new 2018 game that is not even in a release state is dishonest at best and shilling at worst...

Valerie starts with 14 strenght.... I mean, seriously.
I am not saying you can't deal with them, just that there's no reason to punish yourself with them on higher difficulty than challenging.
I managed to finish the game on almost challenging - stats were normal - with the companions, and 0 knowledge of how to build chars, and never reduced difficulty, even at the end, so I know it's doable.... but using mercenaries in my 2nd playthrough I am having an easier time on HARD.
They are objectively unoptimized, period (exept Nok-Nok, Ekundayo, Jaethaifu and Octavia).

Harrim is a disaster because of selective channel. You can't defend him, the problem is not his low DEX.

The difference is in execution and agenda. Beamdog's writing was 4th-wall-breaking and shitty, Kingmaker's is consistent with the characters. Plus the characters in Kingmaker have a lot more personality as opposed to just being there for muh representation like Beamdog games.
You haven't played Kingmaker, you shouldn't judge the writing based on thos thread.

Val does get +2Str later but yes that's a bit of a challenge. +Str items start showing up very early though and she is a good debuffer who can get 40AC very quickly.
You don't need channeling in combat to have a good cleric. Harrim is still good if you focus on Necro/Summoning.

No it's not and no it isn't.

Faulty logic, a game doesn't have to be 'brand new' to have good gameplay. Fallout, a game made in 1997, has excellent gameplay.

The EE content doesn't even match up to BG/BG2's pre-existing content, which was made in 1998/2000.

You can play Harrim as a necro/summoner (while I think it's still a bad idea for a melee char) but then you still need someone to heal.
And having a bad HEALING CLERIC, means more RESTING TIME. And in this game time is key.

True, but again you get +Channel items, +Wis/Cha items (to give him more channels), and healing up after fights is fine.
I mostly ran him so he would summon his front line, then go in as a second-liner while enlarged with Aspect spells.

You need +3 CHA item to get him Selective channeling. And you don't get those until, +4 CHA headbands at the season of the bloom.
Even with those, he has like 4 channelings per day I think.
You need his goddamn helm to finally use channeling for a regular healing and you get it late game.

Look, I love him as a char, but he's a 18 point buy. While a merc is 20. Even with the same domains, deity, race, a merc is a winner.
Not counting, Animal Domain, Community domain and even Plant Domain...

I'm pretty sure he is 20 point buy (because Dwarves have -2 Cha).
You don't need Selective Channeling, it's helpful but not mandatory. You can just heal after a fight.
You can also buy +4 Cha items as soon as you get your capital, can't you?
I'm not trying to say he's the strongest companion or as good as a minmaxed merc, but he's certainly usable.

I am not saying he's not usable. He definitly felt like the weak spot for the start and late game for me.
At least Valerie had the TSS class which is very good...
Just name a companion which is less optimized than him.

You don't need a cleric at all, just don't get hit bro.
You don't need Channel, it's a complete waste of stat points to raise up Charisma just to use a class ability that becomes really irrelevant after level 5 or so

And Selective Channeling is a poor feat as a result

Oh yeah he is probably the least optimized companion, but he also has only 20 point buy unlike the stronger companions. He felt functional enough to me, though. I don't think he's worse than Tristian, just needs to be used differently.

Is Ancient Curse Part 7 actually a thing? Because the Fey Apocalypse started something around 50 days before it, so now I'm in the House and the quest is failed I guess?

You can finish it (the Jabberwock comes out) but yeah you suffer damage to stats so counter-productive if you want high Kingdom stats at the end.
