I've panicked for a while when I saw the kingdom management part for the first time but now I've put a couple of hours more into the game and I can say that the management part while not great it's miles above the PoE stronghold stuff. In fact, it has potential to be fun.
The reason why I had to post this is that I'm at level 5 or 6 and I had the tightest fight with some bandits
I had to use everything I know to beat these shits and it was worth it. I never had to much fun in a classic CRPG in a while (probably years because PoE is a travesty compared to this).
I just want to fast mention a couple of things:
-
Take your time with this game. It's not often you'll play a good IE-style CRPG. Please don't rush the game like the local retarded bulgarian. There are so many things and quests that you can miss.
- I know people complained about the writing but I find it simple and refreshing. No stupid lingos, mostly straight to the point with just enough bloat. I like it.
Note: The undead chick dialog makes sense in the context of her character.
- The world's lore is nice. I could not stand PoE2's lore because it was mostly exposition but in this one the lore and the environments are telling the same story.
- Each build is viable. People are complaining about difficulty. Yes, the combat is challenging but you have tools to manage it. Potions, scrolls, wands, pre-buffing and so on. You cannot simply click on a mob and expect him to die. For first time in years you need to think. Indeed, the game is screaming for TB combat but for once RTwP works and it's fun (and I hate RTwP).
- Most premade companions seems to be retarded at the first glance but I've made them work. I have a fighter, 2 barbarians, 1 cleric, 1 bard and 1 alchemist. All of them were original premade companions but now they have become quite strong.
Note: The spider swarm quest is trivialized once you get the first alchemist companion. The quest is actually part of chapter 2.
- The journal almost never says go exactly here and do that. It just says go explore this area and in almost all cases you have multiple paths to resolve major investigations. This is incline.
- Another shocking aspect: the itemization is brilliant. After many hours I still find weapons and items useful for my party. I don't know if the loot is generated but it works.
- I love the fact that my barbarian is not the most retarded build from the game. It's actually boring but very viable. The wizards are not OP like before and there are so many viable combinations you can make and none of them are retarded like PoE2 multiclassing.
But before someone accuses me of being a retarded fanboi I need to mention the bad parts (at least in my opinion):
- A lot of loading times but that's not easy fixable.
- The save system is bugged. It loads the last autosave even if you manually saved the game (in that case you have to manually load the game).
- The walking speed is a little bit obnoxious.
- The resting/fatigue mechanics could be improved a little bit. I cannot go far on the map without some characters getting fatigued.
Note: The barbarians become fatigue after Rage but it's not permanent. But still, it's annoying as fuck.
- If you cook shit everytime you rest then soon you'll be out of very important ingredients.
Edit: Indeed some companions can be obnoxious and spew SJW stuff but you can and in fact I decided to ignore that shit. I simply don't care about the "Hi, I suck dick" type of stuff. Overall this is not as important compared with the good things the game does. Also it's really rare and not in your face like in PoE2.
That's about it. I have no idea how far I'm in the story but I think the Russians did it. This has the potential to become a new classic.
PS: Sorry for the broken English but I wanted to write this fast.
