Subtlety is not really something that is indicative of quality.

It usually is, actually, because the opposite is "dumbing down to retards' level so that everyone can understand". We have seen this and its horrible effect again and again in many RPGs, for example PoE (as Fenstermaker admitted himself when he came here).

I will leave it at this. Writers know what I am talking about.

There is a difference between blunt and forced down your throat. If there is nothing but subtlety then it becomes a vain exercise in narcissism "look how subtle I can write am I not awzumz?!".

All companions talk too much in the prologue. I am almost certain that this was done in order to explain alignments, and also help the player choose companions at the end of the prologue. (Linzi also has the journal, so even more reasons for her to speak)

And the dlc companion? Why does she talk a lot? To advertise her dlc. Which is what I said from the start.

All this is understandable in terms of functionality, but it does not necessarily lead to enjoyable scenes. Kingmaker does much better later. But I understand why it was done.
-----

On the issue of subtlety. Each scene has its own rules, and you are either trying to create an awesome scene or trying to explain it. You won't have both.

We won't answer the question of subtlety here, but it is a question that has already been answered. All major (from an artistic viewpoint, not a commercial one) literary and cinematic works ever have a lot of it. This should tell you something.

(In short, the way *I* understand it: subtlety allows for multi-layer meanings, which are cheapened once you try to explain anything without pages and pages of analysis. In addition, subtlety engages the observer's exploratory, intellectual and enjoyment centres of the brain. It is no accident that people have been analyzing Kubrick's or Cervantes' work for decades/centuries. Without subtlety, you do not have any of that.)

Whether the companions talk to much or not is entirely subjective and is a complete non-argument whether the twins were implemented seamlessly or not. The matter of fact is if you had never played the game before and were to play without knowledge a fully kitted out PF:KM you would not know if any of the less prominent characters of the prologue where in the original game or not. As to the twins "advertising" last time I checked they did not appear in the base game, at least the last time I played without the DLC, at all so I fail to see how they "advertise".

She is there in the prologue without the dlc too. You get to know where she is from, that she likes fire, that she likes handsome men, and she wins 2 fights for you.

The additional content in the NWN 1 & 2 games were expansions. They had distinct campaigns with some content (spells/class/abilities) that could be used in (improve) the base game. That's what we want and developers know it.

When they ask about DLCs, they're investigating how close to horse armor they can get without taking flak for it.
I have never liked distinct campaign expansions. I have always been of the opinion that expansions should be seamlessly integrated into the main game.

You want a new campaign, make a new game.

She likes handsome men? Wow, what a fucking unique character trait for a woman.

Does she also like eating food and breathing oxygen?
Yeah, that Tiefling was fucking annoying. At least the one in BG2 was annoying on purpose, especially for the purposes of the love triangle.

Current year is 2020, get cancelled for promoting pretty privilege you fucking biggot.

Also, no, you can't really disintegrate linzi, at least not without some kind of exploit. But as you know, someone else do the job for you at the house.

I never played Varnhold for more than an hour the concept of playing with a new character just isn't appealing in my opinion. All DLC should be built directly into the main game/story IMHO.
Would like to see companion DLC where you run a side story and at the end the companion is integrated into your party/campaign.
I would prefer side line DLC's, maybe played as an enemy faction?

So hear me out. Avellone is banished from everywhere and Owlcat is the only one still working with him right now. Before Chris was a busy guy with lots of jobs. Imagine focusing all that energy, time and experience on one project instead.

This is not confirmed. The last Owlcat statement about him was "wait and see" of some sort and then everybody including MCA is radio silencing.

It is entirely possible that MCA is working with this especially the dev being Russian who probably doesn't give a fuck with the controversies, but will go uncredited because at the end of the day this game is still sold mostly on the west. But really, we don't know whether MCA is actually still working on this.

Now Avellone over the years has become less of a writer and more of a senior narrative designer of some sort so he is not somebody that would easily want to get uncredited work. On the other hand, he was canceled hard so probably nobody will want him near their project anymore to begin with in the future so these uncredited work is probably his future venue of work.

And OwlCat is right. Innocent until proven guilty. The west is failing into a new witch hunt.

Chris Avellone is a genius guy; he lost everything by just allegations with zero evidence and I hope that OwlCat will make success with his work. That the next Pathfinder will have a greater story than ever. And that he works in future OwlCat titles.

So without DLC she is like Tartuccio helpful during the prologue but not so helpful afterwards. Got it.
He's actually more helpful. If you let him & the kobolds stay, he'll join you as your vassal in the final run against LK.

And then Owlcat has to spend a fuckload of time cutting stuff because our lad writes pages upon pages of books.

When is this getting released, anyway? I lost interest after the furries won the vote and the reveal that they were hacking it down in scope compared to Kingmaker.
Fully realized Durance :hype:
We'd all love that, but I doubt that could even be done in this game. Most of the CNPC's seem cringe as all hell.

They've said summer of '21, but I think it's fabulously optimistic. I'm waiting for a christmas '21 release myself, or perhaps even early '22. I'm not sure what you mean by "furries won the vote", all 3 options were furries. There was never any other possibility, no matter what the delusional ratfags claim. And it might be shorter than KM (or it might not, they were aiming for a smaller game there too), but it has significantly more branching options if the reports from the Alpha are to be believed.

Based on the alpha it is still easily a 70+ hour game and much more replay value than Kingmaker.

They're pretty good. Sosiel is kinda boring and Camellia is a bit edgy for my taste, couple others aren't fleshed out enough yet (having only the alpha to judge them), but overall seems improved from KM.

Christmas postcards contest

Ho-ho-ho Pathfinders!

Winter holidays are approaching! Traditionally every year we create a congratulatory postcard for you, but this year we decided to do something special, and ask you to help us. We are happy to announce a congratulatory postcard contest!

Rules:

1. Create a winter holiday postcard featuring characters from Pathfinder: Kingmaker or Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, or both, or our owlcat mascot. It must feature some symbols of Christmas or New Year, depending on which is more popular in your culture. In Russia, for example, we celebrate the New Year Eve like it’s the last day of our lives, and instead of Santa we have Father Frost and Snow Maiden who bring presents and New Year magic with them.

2. Post the postcard on your social media using hashtag #PFmerrymaker and tag our official account so we could see it. This is a mandatory submission step - if we can’t see your postcard, we won’t be able to declare you a winner, so please don’t forget to post your submission and tag at least one of our social media accounts. Or in all of them, just to be sure!

3. Share the merriment with your friends! And share your friends' creations too! This is an optional part, you don't have to do it to win, but it will make the creators happier and spread the spirit of the holidays!

4. We will stop accepting the submissions at 00:00, 22nd of December, Moscow Time, which is 10 pm CET/4 pm EDT/1 pm PDT of 21st of November, and will reveal the winners on 25th of December.

Prizes!

1st place - special winter scarf and a copy of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous with beta early access

2nd and 3rd places - a copy of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous with beta early access for each winner.

The access to Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous will be provided digitally, via our pre-order portal, when the game is released. Beta early access key will become available on the pre-order portal when the game enters the stage of beta testing.
